Chautauqua Park Boulder
A day hike without the kids at Chautauqua Park in Boulder Colorado. We attempted the Royal Arch trail.
My Hiking Essentials:
We didn't quite make it all of the way to the arch but we made it far enough to get some pictures and we'll be back next week to try and conquer it.
My Hiking Essentials:
Quick Loop in Chautauqua Park Boulder
After a powerful winter storm moved through the Denver metro area a few days ago, it was amazing to have a clear blue sky day with no wind. With the sun full on, snow melting all around and temps in the 30s it felt spring like. There was no question, take advantage and get out on trail as we continue to get ready for our Colorado Trail thru hike. Today, a quick loop in Chautauqua Park in Boulder, CO. Chautauqua Park Boulder, Colorado - Hiking the 1st and 2nd Flatirons
Short video clip I made of my hike to the 1st and 2nd Flatirons at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado.
Hiking to Royal Arch at the Flatirons in Boulder, Colorado - A Winter Wonderland!
Last weekend I hiked to #RoyalArch in the #Flatirons. It dumped snow the day before, but I didn't want to drive or spend the money skiing so I went for a hike. It was more beautiful than I expected and the weather was perfect!
I wish I would have brought Zeppelin, but I think she would have been too cold! It was nice to just have some #solitude, too.
The Flatirons in the snow are very hard to describe. from a distance, it's like looking at a black and white movie in real life. Up close, just a total #WinterWonderland.
I slipped once but didn't really get hurt. Microspikes for your boots are often recommended for hiking the Flatirons in the snow.
I want to get out into the Indian Peaks Wilderness area soon. I have heard that the Fourth of July trail is good, but does anyone have some more recommendations? I'd love to do something from Brainard Lake since I have the house in Ward.

Chautauqua Park
The Colorado Chautauqua, located in Boulder, Colorado, United States, and started in 1898, is the only Chautauqua west of the Mississippi River still continuing in unbroken operation since the heyday of the Chautauqua Movement in the 1920s. It is one of the few such continuously operating Chautauquas remaining in the United States, and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2006.[2] According to its governing body, the Colorado Chautauqua Association, it is also unique in that it is the only year-round Chautauqua.More info visit

Colorado Family Hikes || Chautauqua Park, Boulder
Our first time hiking at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, CO! We had no idea what we were doing but had a great time anyway! We are used to flat ground, so hiking in the mountains was a fun change. We saw tons of stones that people stacked up.

Life at The Colorado Chautauqua - Award Winning Short
Update: This film won for Short Form Directing at The Colorado International Film Festival!
Winner of the CINEMA Student Film Competition in association with the Colorado History Museum and The Colorado Film and Video Association.
The Colorado Chautauqua has many beautiful historical aspects - the restored buildings, amazing performers that have graced the community house and auditorium, and the location next to the beautiful Boulder flatirons. However, I discovered a niche community of multigenerational cottage owners while researching the area. These cottagers have a long history with the site and continue to bring a homey feel to The Colorado Chautauqua.

Explore Colorado Boulder Restaurants
With its eclectic mix of cafes and restaurants, large farmers market, and several top-tier restaurants, Boulder could easily be dubbed a foodie’s paradise. In 2010, Bon Appetit Magazine even named Boulder as the Foodiest Town in America.
One of the best views along the Front Range is at Flagstaff House Restaurant. Three generations of the Monette Family work in the restaurant started by Don Monette. His son, Scott, is general manager and son, Mark, is chef. Some of Don’s grandchildren also work in the restaurant. It is an awarding winning restaurant including being named a “Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Restaurant 2012.” Their wine collection is one of the best in the world. Flagstaff House was the first restaurant in Colorado to put its wine list on an iPad. There are 3500 selections and 18,000 bottles in their wine list. It is one of two restaurants in Colorado and one of 75 in the world to win the Wine Spectator Grand Award. Flagstaff House has won that award every year since 1983. Flagstaff House is open seven nights a week.
Frasca Food and Wine was started by Master Sommelier Bobbie Stuckey and James Beard Foundation Award Winning Chef Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson. Both were part of the team at the French Laundry in Napa Valley when it was named the number one restaurant in the world. The pair opened Frasca in 2004 with the goal to be the best neighborhood restaurant. Since 2004, Frasca has been getting international rave reviews and accolades. The food and wine is a tribute to the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy. With the rustic elegance and simplicity of the dishes, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to northeast Italy. Frasca is open for dinner Monday through Saturday. The pair also owns the Pizzeria Locale right next door. The contemporary pizzeria is inspired by traditional pizzerias of Napoli, Italy. It is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Next to Pizzeria Locale is Frasca Caffe. You can dine-in or grab to-go panini, homemade pastries, espresso, and more in the quaint small space. Frasca Caffe is open seven days a week.
HOKA ONE ONE Top Trails - Boulder, CO
Our third stop for the HOKA ONE ONE Top Trails running show is Boulder, CO. Located at the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills at an elevation of 5,430 feet, Boulder is a high-altitude training ground for fitness enthusiasts of all kinds. The city is also home to the University of Colorado, who’s 1998 cross country program was highlighted in the cult classic book Running with the Buffaloes, and the Bolder Boulder 10K- one of the largest road races in the world. Boulder resident, Amanda Lee takes us on a run to the peak of Mt. Sanitas, starting at the Centennial Trailhead and taking the rocky and technical Mt. Sanitas Trail.
The trailheads for many popular hikes and runs are located at Chautauqua Park, which sits at the foot of Green Mountain and provides views of the iconic Flatiron rock formations. Our hosts, Matt Barnhart and Ian Terpin head to Chautauqua Park and meet up with Ryan Lassen (Co-Founder, Rocky Mountain Runners) and the trail running group “Rocky Mountain Runners” for a run up Green Mountain. Next they visit the Boulder Running Company and talk to Jim Shonkwiler about the trails and some of Boulder’s running history. They sit down for breakfast at the Walnut Cafe and talk to coach Brad Hudson about his elite training group Hudson Elite. Henry Guzman (Co-Owner, Flatirons Running Inc.) sits down at the Pearl St. Mall to talk about the culture in Boulder and the Pearl St. Mile. Finally, Matt and Ian grab some pizza at Pizzeria Locale.
