Top 10 Things to Do at Cheyenne Frontier Days - #2 Fun Food & Barbecue!
Frontier Days, the world's largest outdoor rodeo and western celebration, has a plethora of activities that will immerse you in the 10 days of western and cowboy culture. #2 (not in any particular order) on our list of top things to do at Frontier Days is Fun Food & Barbecue!.
We look forward to the special foods that Frontier Days brings every year. Frontier Days just wouldn't be complete without eating some of the foods that might be difficult to come by otherwise.
Carnival fare such as deep fried Oreo's, fresh squeezed lemonade and funnel cakes are some of our favorites found on the Frontier Days Carnival Midway. The Frontier Days Indian Village has Indian fry bread that is delicious topped with cinnamon & sugar and honey. Also, don't miss the Indian taco which is ground beef, beans, lettuce, cheese, diced tomatoes and black olives layered on top of Indian Fry Bread. My personal favorite at the Indian Village is the lean buffalo burger which is served with potato salad and jalapeno baked beans.
Our absolute Frontier Days favorite treat is kettle corn, a sweet and salty treat not to be missed!
Frontier Days also hosts a chuck-wagon cookoff. From cfdrodeo.com: View & visit with authentic chuckwagon crews as they give a glimpse into life on the Goodnight Trail more than a 100 years ago. Crews are given a standard set of ingredients, then judged on not only the wide range of foods produced, but also on wagon, tools and campsite. Public may sample food on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Demonstration cooking takes place each day of the cookoff and the Championship Cookoff takes place on the final day. Located between the Indian Village and Old Frontier Town. South of the Old West Museum. Championship buckles will be awarded during finals rodeo.

Many mobile barbecue trucks roll into town for Cheyenne Frontier Days. Several are parked near Frontier Days grounds, one was located in the Old Frontier Town area, and more throughout the city of Cheyenne. Inside the park near the Buckin' A Saloon, one barbecue vendor sells exotic meats such as kangaroo, alligator, and rattlesnake. The barbecue vendor featured in the video, Big Jim's Barbecue from Colorado, brings 2500lbs of meat and smokes the meats using hickory wood from Arkansas.

Atlas Motel [ABANDONED] (Cheyenne, Wyoming) | Optopolis
The Atlas Motel in Cheyenne, Wyoming, a once booming 1900s motel, now sits stagnant and decrepit, as it begs to be rebuilt.
The motel was built in the late 1920s as a thriving establishment. Unfortunately, like many other aging motels, it eventually became pest infested, significantly decreasing interest in long term stay. As a result, the Atlas Motel was perminantly abandoned in 2018. In October 2019, plans were released to rebuild the Atlas with a new motel, but much more modernistic and larger to accomodate the crowds.
Today, it still sits and decays, empty, unused, and boarded up. Sadly, this isn't the only motel/hotel in Cheyenne that sits abandoned today. Fortunately, something better will become of it.
