FRANCE: PARIS: METRO BOMB: INVESTIGATORS BEGIN SEARCH FOR CLUES
Natural Sound
French investigators have begun the painstaking search for clues to discover who planted the bomb that ripped through a packed Paris metro train during Tuesday's afternoon rush hour.
The blast at the Port Royal suburban station killed 2 people and injured another 50, seven of them are in a critical condition.
No one has claimed responsibility, but the target, the timing and the type of bomb bore all the hallmarks of previous attacks by Algerian Moslem fundamentalists, angry at France's support for Algeria's military-backed Government.
The bomb was fashioned from a 28-pound gas canister - similar to bombs used in the 1995 attacks that killed eight people and injured 160.
The sirens of emergency vehicles could still be heard around the Port Royal R-E-R regional metro station in Paris late into Tuesday night.
Parisians were in somber mood, fearing a return of the bombing campaign that terrorised the French capital during the summer of 1995.
The station has been completely cordoned off and specialist terrorist officers moved in to begin the detailed search for bomb remains.
Europe 1 radio, citing sources close to the investigation, said the canister was packed with nails, and that one body was mutilated by the shrapnel.
French radio said some passengers had seen an abandoned package on the train before the explosion.
The blast blew the doors off the subway car, the second in a long train. .
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the rush-hour bombing.
It happened at 6:05 p.m. on the R-E-R regional line that shuttles thousands of commuters in and out of the French capital.
Port-Royal station is located between the Boulevard St. Michel and the Boulevard Montparnasse, about two miles from the Eiffel Tower and one mile from the Notre Dame cathedral.
Police and rescue workers said the bomb killed two people instantly and seriously injured another 35, seven of them critically. About 50 other people were slightly hurt.
Witnesses described a scene of panic, of thick black smoke, the chilling wail of ambulances and paramedics frantically carrying away the wounded on stretchers.
The first ambulances were on the scene within two minutes, a witness said. The wounded were rushed to a nearby military hospital specializing in trauma victims.
The blast was close to the site of the worst of last year's bombings, at the St. Michel station. The July 25 bomb killed eight people and wounded 84 others, and launched a four-month bombing campaign that put Paris under siege.
A sombre President Jacques Chirac condemned these unacceptable acts, these barbaric acts that always attack innocent people.
The government and I are determined to fight against terrorism in all its forms, he said. No stone will be left unturned.
Prime Minister Alain Juppe said the government had reinstated an emergency plan, tightening borders and mobilizing hundreds of soldiers and machine-gun toting police at airports, train stations and public squares across the country.
Algerian Islamic extremists claimed responsibility for most of last year's bombings. Those bombings also involved gas canisters, packed with nails, nuts and bolts.

FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? On and off for over two years.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a Draw My Life video that explains a lot here:
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself:
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here:
Do you speak French? Oui.
You talk a lot about the books you're working on, what are they about? - They're sci-fi (and fantasy) and I've got a decent pitch for you here:
Do you make money off YouTube? - Ha, no. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $1/mo to help me make better videos:
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game):
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. This is the US one:
And here's the French wishlist:

Paris theft incident, everything got stolen.
Hi everyone, here is the full story about what happened with Lia's stolen bag in Paris. Some of you already know, as you follow us on instagram, but here is the footage from the rest of the trip. Most of which involves trying to get the bag back / find the scumbag who took it. We owe it to you guys and we are really grateful for all the messages of support and donations that you've sent over on KoFi, Patreon and Paypal. If it wasn't my bag that day it would have been somebody else's, and perhaps that person wouldn't have had the support of an incredible community online to help build them back up. For that I am so grateful. Lots of love as always, we will be back to normal happy uploads soon. x
The crowd funding page for Lia's stuff is on our Kofi page, we are currently at 16% of our goal:
IMPORTANT:
This is not at all a reflection on the brand we we were working with over on our instagram page for this campaign. The company who sent us were only responsible for sending us to Paris and bringing us home. They understood how dreadful the theft made our trip and have thanked us for staying professional throughout the delivery of the promised content over on @JoelandLia instagram page. We would 100% work with them again, just maybe not in Paris.
