Florida Coastal Drive on a Picture Perfect Day - Miami to Ft Lauderdale ????????
Very enjoyable Florida coastal drive on a picture perfect day while heading back to North after visiting Key West for Fantasy Fest. This part of the video begins from South of the downtown Miami and ends near Ft. Lauderdale at Las Olas Boulevard. Recording was made with my camera mounted on windshield of Toyota Prius with suction cup mount. Basically this was a test drive for my second camera. I am guessing the trending cars admirers will also like this video.

HISTORY:
Construction of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Confidence began at the United States Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay, Maryland, in 1965 and was completed in 1966. Fifth of 16 vessels in the class, Confidence was designed for search and rescue, law enforcement, and alien migrant interdiction operations (AMIO). Originally assigned to the Seventeenth Coast Guard District to support operations in Kodiak, Alaska, in the spring of 1983, following 17 years in Alaskan waters, Confidence was reassigned to the Thirteenth Coast Guard District and was homeported in Port Angeles, Washington. During her time in the Pacific Northwest, Confidence’s crew seized 17 foreign and U.S. vessels for violations of U.S. law. In January 1986, Confidence and her crew seized the Panamanian freighter “Eagle 1” and its cargo of 506 pounds (230 kg) of cocaine. This was the largest maritime seizure of cocaine on the west coast at the time. *
Confidence was decommissioned and sent to the United States Coast Guard Yard in February 1987 for a major overhaul, referred to as a Midlife Maintenance Availability. Modifications included the installation of a new electronics package to increase the ship’s effectiveness, new engines and smokestacks to increase efficiency, and habitability was improved. In October 1988, Confidence was commissioned back into service and sent to her new homeport in Port Canaveral, Florida. Now the ship is normally assigned to patrol the waters off the southern coast of the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean. Her primary missions are Counter Drug operations, Alien Migrant Interdiction Operations (AMIO), Homeland Security Operations, fisheries law enforcement, and Search and Rescue (SAR). *
Since the fall of 1991, Confidence has been heavily involved in AMIO, including the interdiction of Haitian, Cuban, and Dominican Republic migrants attempting to illegally enter the U.S. One highlight of these operations was Confidence’s participation in Operation Able Vigil in 1993, and rescued 1,123 Cuban migrants in less than 4 weeks. The busiest day resulted in the interdiction of 346 migrants from 46 separate rafts and boats in just 16 hours. In the spring of 1992, Confidence participated in Operation Able Manner, interdicting 428 Haitian migrants. Later that year, the ship was the primary platform for Operation Restore Dignity off the coast of Haiti, recovering 78 Haitians who perished when their ferry sank. *
In 2001, Confidence was outfitted with an Over the Horizon (OTH) Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat, designed to transport law enforcement teams at high speeds for long distances independent of the cutter. From January 2003 until June 2005, Confidence interdicted over 1,100 Cuban, Haitian, and Dominican migrants with several noteworthy cases. In November 2004, Confidence rescued 82 migrants from a 28-foot (8.5 m) Haitian sailing vessel taking on water off the coast of the Bahamas. In January 2005, Confidence crewmembers rescued 127 migrants in 8-foot (2.4 m) seas from a 40-foot (12 m), grossly overloaded Dominican yola. In June, 2005 during a ten-day period, Confidence safely intercepted 162 Haitians from a 40-foot (12 m) vessel on the Great Bahama Bank, seven Cubans from a makeshift vessel sinking in the Old Bahama Channel and 111 Haitians in a 30-foot (9.1 m) vessel in 9-foot (2.7 m) seas north of Great Inagua, Bahamas. *
The year 2006 was the 40th anniversary of Confidence’s initial commissioning. The original life expectancy of this cutter class was 30 years, but it is expected she will remain in service an additional 10-15 years. During her years of faithful service, Confidence has been awarded the United States Secretary of Transportation’s Gold Medal for Outstanding Achievement, 6 Coast Guard Unit Commendations, 5 Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendations, 3 National Defense Service Medals, 4 Humanitarian Service Medals, and 4 Special Operations Ribbons. Following the ship’s 2007 Tailored Annual Cutter Training, Confidence earned her 10th consecutive Coast Guard Battle E Ribbon for Operational Excellence. *

2018 Sea Ray L650 Yacht For Sale at MarineMax Fort Myers, FL
View this listing:
CHINGONA is a SUPER custom L-650 Sea Ray. The owners from North Texas worked for a year with the Sea Ray design team on the interior. The owners had a look in mind, and “Sea Ray knocked it past the outfield”. This boat has every option that was available. If you are looking for a unique Sea Ray “L” class boat this is it. When asked “why are you selling” the owners said: We have fallen in love with SW Florida and are buying a home on the water. CHINGONA has been here at our marina since commissioning February 2018. She is professional maintained and serviced by MarineMax & Gulf Coast Yacht Management.
The Sea Ray L650 Fly is intended to be the best of the best of what Sea Ray is capable of. She has premium upholstery, woodwork, and hardware that Sea Ray feels is all state-of-the-art that allows her to compete directly against top-tier boats in class. The L650 was designed to be the best of the best of what Sea Ray is capable of. She has premium upholstery, woodwork, and hardware that Sea Ray feels is all state-of-the-art and will allow her to compete directly against top-tier boats in class. Sea Ray hit the target at the top boats in class in terms of styling, quality, performance and market appeal. The L650 serves as a sterling representative of the Sea Ray L-Class (L for Luxury), a fresh series of premium yacht designs.
The trend lately in virtually every large boat has been to put the galley up and aft. Sea Ray has gone with a more conventional forward location, but has opened up the galley, putting refrigerator and freezer drawers below the counters. By eliminating any galley bulkheads, Sea Ray has kept the whole inside of the main deck unobstructed and open -- just the way more people like it these days. It also lends the galley as a main part of the social zones in this open layout deck.
The advantages of four staterooms are obvious for people with large families, or want to entertain multiple couples for an extended weekend. The L650 is the only boat in class that has created a standard day head in the boat's lazerette.
Set-Up for Owner/Operator, with both a bow and a stern thruster and the yacht controller joy stick, the L650 is super easy to dock the optional docking station aft with the joy stick makes backing in a slip or sideways to a dock super easy.
The hydraulic swim platform has a 1,200 lb. capacity Not only can this be used for carrying and launching the ship's tender but it can also be used as a private beach wherever the boat happens to be anchored at the time. Both children and adults will love the teak beach features when the platform is partially submerged.
Handling
The L-650 has a superior level of performance and handling. It has a solid feel, but also a marked measure of sprightly responsiveness. It handles sea conditions well too, cutting through waves instead of launching over them .Sea Ray equips the L-650 with a pair of SeaKeeper gyro-stabilizers. With a very stable ride the SeaKeeper keeps it that way in all conditions.

Intracoastal Waterway - Fort Lauderdale & Boca Raton, FL
Video compilation of my various times on or around the Intracoastal Waterway in south Florida. The Intracoastal is a channel of water that runs parallel to the ocean, separated by the A1A. In order to get to the ocean you have to pass over the Intracoastal via various drawbridges that open at designated times. So in the same way that encountering TriRails, Amtraks and freight trains is a regular part of life in this region, so is the Intracoastal and the bridges. :)
A large portion of the video was taken while riding the Fort Lauderdale water taxi on a couple of occasions, which begins in downtown on the New River, before eventually connecting up to the Intracoastal. There are three main types of water taxi boats used - the smallest, which holds about 15 people, the mid size which holds about 40, and the big double decker complete with a bar and restrooms. You'll see all three types featured in this compilation. Vids were shot from aboard all three as well. The benefit of a daily ticket is that you can ride the water taxi for the entire day, getting on and off at any stop, and transferring around as much as you want. When you get on and off you never know which water taxi is going to be the next one to come by to your stop. Ride it around enough and you'll eventually get to try out all three boat types. When riding the water taxi the snarky/cheeky/semi informative narration comes with the ride, so, there's not anything I can do about that, though a lot of people may find some of it interesting. I interspersed some of the water taxi vids with corresponding video taken from land at the same spots, to give a little variation in perspective.
One of my favorite places to view the Intracoastal is Gumbo Limbo Environmental Center, here in Boca. The Ashley butterfly trail ends at a small patch of white sandy beach along the Intracoastal where you can sit on some benches and watch the boats go by among the mangroves. Another favorite spot is from Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, in Fort Lauderdale. Both are in this vid. (it happened to be high tide when you see the patch of beach at Gumbo Limbo in this vid, so, there wasn't much of a beach happening at that moment. :D ) And apologies in advance for any vids that have shakiness - some of my earlier vids had more of that going on before I became more mindful and tried harder to keep things level while videoing. Most of the water taxi vids are actually amazingly level, but.....that's because I tried *insanely* hard. :D Which is not always easy to do actually when you're in a boat, but, I just kept my camera propped on the water taxi rails.
Enjoy.....
