I'm just trying to present variety in my films and I hope that it is entertaining some of you. Please comment, I may not be able to reply but I will surely read your remarks when the opportunity presents itself. There's a long way to go with this project and your feedback is valued and appreciated! Thank you!

Penang 1930
A travelogue film with inter-titles, by Arthur and Kate Tode in 1930. The film shows the harbor, the so called Hindu Snake Temple of Penang [Sungei Kluang Penang], and then street life of the city of Georgetown, including many British colonial period buildings which still stand, and a few that have since been removed.

Peranakan Mansion, Penang
The Peranakans, also known as the Babas and Nyonyas, was a prominent community of acculturated Chinese unique to this part of the world, especially in the Straits Settlements (Penang, Malacca and Singapore) hence its other name, the Straits Chinese. Adopting selected ways of the local Malays and later, the colonial British, the Peranakans had created a unique lifestyle and customs which had not only left behind a rich legacy of antiques but its cultural influences like cuisine and language are still evident in Penang today.
At the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, the typical home of a rich Baba of a century ago is recreated to offer a glimpse of their opulent lifestyle and of their many customs and traditions. With over 1,000 pieces of antiques and collectibles of the era on display, this Baba-Nyonya museum is also housed in one of Penang’s heritage mansion of eclectic design and architecture. Built at the end of the 19th century by one of local history’s famous personalities, the ‘Hai Kee Chan’ or Sea Remembrance Store had once served as the residence and office of Kapitan Cina Chung Keng Kwee. Though not a Baba himself, his Chinese courtyard house was much like a typical large Baba home of eclectic style, incorporating Chinese carved-wood panels and English floor tiles and Scottish ironworks. Having survived the many decades of neglect and decay, the mansion has now been restored to its former glory of a stately home.

About Georgetown Penang Malaysia
George Town, the capital city of the Malaysian state of Penang, is located at the northeastern tip of Penang Island. It is the second largest city in Malaysia, with 708,127 inhabitants as of 2010, while its metropolitan area, Greater Penang, is the second largest conurbation in Malaysia with an estimated population of 2.5 million. One of the oldest cities in Malaysia, George Town was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Malacca City in 2008.
Established by Captain Francis Light of the British East India Company in 1786, George Town was one of the first British settlements in South-East Asia. Together with Singapore and Malacca, George Town was governed under the Straits Settlements, which later became a British crown colony in 1867. It was subjugated by the Empire of Japan during World War II, before being recaptured by the British at war's end. Shortly before Malaya attained independence from the British Empire in 1957, George Town was declared a city by Queen Elizabeth II, the first in the country's modern history. In 2015, Penang Island, on which George Town is located, also obtained city status.
Due to the intermingling of the various ethnicities and religions that arrived on its shores during its heyday as a British entrepôt, George Town acquired a large assortment of colonial and Asian eclectic architectural styles. It also gained a reputation as Malaysia's gastronomic capital, due to its unique and ubiquitous street food. Moreover, the city hosts intangible cultural heritage, such as that of the Peranakan (formerly known as the Straits Chinese), a hybrid ethnicity which has left its mark on Penang's architecture and cuisine.
Additionally, George Town is Malaysia's most vital medical tourism hub, receiving approximately half of Malaysia's medical tourists, many from neighbouring countries such as Indonesia and Singapore. It also serves as the financial hub within northern Malaysia, with numerous Malaysian and foreign banks setting up branches in the city.
Logistically, George Town is a well-connected city, with the Penang International Airport 16 km to the south linking it to several major cities in the region including Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, Taipei and Hong Kong. An enduring legacy from the British colonial era is the Port of Penang, which still serves the northern region of Malaysia by connecting George Town with over 200 ports worldwide.[19][20] George Town is also connected to the rest of Peninsular Malaysia via a ferry service and the Penang Bridge.

DISCOVER Penang Island - Food & Heritage
Penang, the Pearl of Orient, is a fascinating island that has a mixed of eastern and western influences. As one of Malaysia's most tourist-visited destination, the island seems to have embraced modernity while parading its colonial traditions. Listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, the island's capital, Georgetown, has been the source of inspiration to many who has stepped their feet on this mystical part of town.
Be sure to check out its stylish shopping malls, cosy pubs and artsy cafes and boutique hotels. The city is also an attraction to the Malaysian tourist – an assortment of Indian and Malay spices, Chinese noodles to the Peranakan otak-otak - is for many a food heaven in Malaysia.
