Croatia: Zagreb's Lisinski hall packed for Praljak commemoration
The commemoration ceremony for former Bosnian Croat General Slobodan Praljak saw Zagreb's Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall filled out on Monday. Praljak was buried in a secret and private ceremony at Zagreb's Mirogoj cemetery on Thursday.
SOT, Miroslav Tudjman, Son of former Croatian President Franjo Tudjman (Croatian): Not a single minute did he want to live as a war criminal, because that's who he was not. He roared against injustice in front of the whole world. He knew that his sacrifice is of such scale that it would imminently trigger the avalanche of investigations and protests, which will imminently involve the incapable and irresponsible judges of the Hague Tribunal, and that the verdict from November 29, 2017 will remain open until truth is established and the sentence will fit genuine historic facts.
SOT, Zlatko Vitez, Close friend of Praljak (Croatian): Even after everything they orchestrated and framed him for, he chose death. He said goodbye to the world in a dignified way, with the message: 'I am not a criminal, I won't live with such verdict.' At least this is how I interpret what he did. By defining his fight for Croatian-state idea and equality of Herzegovina region within the Bosnia and Herzegovina state as a crime, The Hague tribunal judges sentenced Slobodan Praljak to death.
SOT, General Pavao Miljavac, Former Chief of Army Staff (Croatian): By abusing the role of the International Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia, General Slobodan Praljak was accused because he saved his own people from being banished from the region where they lived for more than 1000 years.
