About the Bordeaux Bike and Barge Tour
Combining the waterways and wines of the sun drenched Bordeaux region in south-western France provides the perfect base for an exceptional bike and boat experience.
Set at the confluence of the Garonne River and the Gironde estuary, Bordeaux is one of the most prolific and famous wine growing regions in the world. Caressed by Atlantic breezes, the vineyards that cover the rolling hills of this iconic wine district have for centuries produced France's most remarkable wines. Appellations such as Saint-Émilion, Pomerol, Sauternes, Médoc and Margaux have made Bordeaux wines the top choice for oenophiliac's around the world.
As you cycle through vineyards and villages - and even a fortified citadel in Blaye - there are opportunities to visit many of the wine houses to sample their finest products. Each night you'll enjoy chef prepared regional specialties with fresh ingredients, whilst the bar offers a wide variety of excellent local wines to enjoy during dinner, or simply to savour at your leisure.

Biking in Bordeaux, France - East Shore
Bordeaux is a flat city, built on the banks of the Garonne River. It is also the largest French city by area and geographically one of the largest in Europe. The Garonne merges a dozen kilometers below the city with another river, the Dordogne River to form the Gironde Estuary, which is biggest estuary in France.
The city center is located west and south of the Garonne. To the east are a few hills - the only ones in the vicinity. These hills mark the beginning of an industrial zone and suburbs. Because it is a flat city, bicycles make excellent modes of transport, especially as the city has more than 580 km of cycle tracks. Bordeaux is among the most economically dynamic cities in France.
Due to the weakness of the subsoil, there are no skyscrapers in Bordeaux, which explains its sprawl. The center of the town has retained its traditional stone mansions and smart terraces, hence the reason behind the city being called Little Paris.
Delft is known for its historic town center with canals, Delft Blue pottery, the Delft University of Technology, painter Johannes Vermeer and scientist Antony van Leeuwenhoek, and its association with the royal House of Orange-Nassau.

Trams in Bordeux, France - trams à Bordeaux, France
By demand of the Municipality of Bordeaux (CUB), part of the system uses ground-level power supply (APS). There is no overhead wire, and electric power to the tram is supplied by a center rail with only the portion directly under the tram electrically alive. This prevents electrocution of pedestrians and animals. See the adjacent photograph.

WHAT IS #BIKEINABOX?
Put your bike in a box, travel somewhere and ride new places.
Find the time, explore the world, near or far from home.
It can be any type of bike riding. It doesn’t have to be a across a continent or even a country – but it should be a ride that has taken some planning, is challenging and has some adventure.
WHY BORDEAUX?
Bordeaux was the ideal starting point, being easy to fly to, and the perfect distance for a three day ride back home.
There are lots of route options on the west coast of France, making the planning much easier. It may not be a high profile race like the TCR, but with just 76 hours to catch the ferry at Cherbourg, the pace still needed to be relatively high, whilst leaving time for essential patisserie stops.
The goal of this trip was not A to B in the fastest time, but to experience a piece of France, and to embrace the freedom of being on the road - just you, your friend, and your bikes.
WHAT BIKES?
Kinesis GTD - The comfortable, fast and adaptable titanium road bike.
Kinesis RTD - The ultimate scandium, endurance race bike.
