COMMUNITY PROFILE: Balwin Park Savannah Georgia
Nestled to the southeast of Savannah’s Victorian District is the quaint residential neighborhood of Baldwin Park. Within these few blocks you can see an architectural timeline of downtown Savannah. From the Victorian homes and mansions that line its border on Victory Drive to the early 20th century bungalows that make up most of the neighborhood, every home has character and charm. Originally this neighborhood was part of the Chatham Crescent development, an area known for its curvilinear streets, roundabouts, and parks. With the creation of Victory Drive in 1919 Chatham Crescent was separated, and the north end became what is today known as Baldwin Park.
At the center of this neighborhood is its namesake, a circular park that is the ideal environment for walking, picnics, and recreation. From the park, looking to the south, you can see the center of Chatham Crescent, picturesquely lined with palmetto trees, all the way down to Teideman Park and the Savannah Arts Academy on Washington Avenue.

Walking Around Forsyth Park Savannah Ga 31401
Forsyth Park is over 30 acres in the heart of the Savannah Historic District and was named after Georgia Governor at the time of the expansion in 1851, John Forsyth.
The park is bordered by Park, Drayton, Whitaker, and Gaston streets, is home to the Confederate Memorial, a half shell theatre, tennis courts, basketball courts, a cafe, two playgrounds, and ample room for sports and events. However, people from all over come to see it’s a most famous asset: the Forsyth Fountain.
Modeled after the fountains found in Place de la Concorde in Cuzco, Peru, it was added to the North end of the park in 1858. Forsyth Park is home to the Farmer’s Market every Saturday, a site for concerts during the Savannah Jazz Festival, a host to free movies in the park every few months and the destination for all kinds of festivals and special events throughout the year.
But you don’t have to wait for an event to try it out. Bring a good book and a blanket, and spend a sunny afternoon under the shade of an oak tree.

Exploring Savannah GA
It was raining this morning in Summerville SC with a forecast of showers all day so I drove the Chevrolet Bolt EV down to Savannah GA. I parked the car at a convenience store and plugged in to their charger. I hopped on my bike to explore Savannah. Riding around the city was pretty nice but it got old after a while having to stop every block. I left the city and headed down to the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge. This was a great ride. I prefer the open roads to city riding. The scenery was awesome. Rivers, marshes, wildlife, and some gravel roads. Good stuff. I used Google Maps on my phone most of the day to navigate. I was surprised when I crossed over into South Carolina and Google announced it. Pretty cool. I hadn’t crossed a state line on my bike. I should do more of that.
Where To Stay In Savannah, Ga: Weekend Getaway at B Historic Savannah
Now that summer is in full swing, it is time to start planning your fall weekend getaway. If you’re looking towards October, Savannah is one of our favorite destinations. Georgia’s oldest city is particularly charming this time of year (temps and humidity have both come down) and the price-point is friendly for multiple budgets. Rich in history and bedecked in Spanish moss and gorgeous Antebellum architecture, Savannah is a cultural treasure chest. And there are activity options for all types: from ghost tours of Bonaventure Cemetery to savoring the craft cocktail scene or checking out an exhibit at the SCAD Museum of Art.
When it comes to booking a hotel, check out the B Historic. It’s a boutique property on a quiet, oak tree lined street in the cobblestoned downtown historic district. We love the vibe, where classic Southern elegance coexists with refreshingly modern interior design. Rooms are comfortable and spacious and come with designer furnishings, mini beverage coolers, 47-inch TVs and Blissful Beds. There is also an awesome indoor saltwater pool and a fitness center.

Xuluprophet- Savannah Psychedelic Funk/Reggae/Rock out of Savannah, GA. A phenomenon of high octane groove music. Founded in 2013 by Irish guitarist/producer Oisin Daly and South Bronx native songwriter Xulu Jones ( who started the concept in 1991, in N.C.) as an acoustic 2 piece brought together by their mutual love of reggae and Jimi Hendrix. Soon they added a drummer and eventually switched to electric guitars. A unique setup allows each guitarist to switch between bass and guitar live on stage which adds a fluid dynamic to the performance. Now a power trio with Rhett Coleman on Drums, Xuluprophet has recently shared the stage with The Wailers and Passafire as well as headlining multiple festivals in Savannah and South Georgia. The groove heavy rhythmic style has its roots in Caribbean and Latin rhythms while the dual guitarist sound has shades of 60's psychedelia, 70's funk, 80's rock and 90's grunge. They have been compared to artists as varied as The Police, Jimi Hendrix, The Cure, Bad Brains and Primus. While playing mostly dance and party music, the lyrical message is both political and spiritual, drawing from their reggae roots they wish to influence the listener to reflect and better themselves and the world around them through the power of music and song. Be sure not to miss this unique and dynamic live band!

Whitemarsh Preserve, near Savannah, GA
While on vacation in Beaufort, SC I decided to make the drive down to Whitemarsh island, GA to check out this trail. Just a short drive from downtown Savannah, this trail is well marked and just shy of 5 miles in length. The trail is sandy and very flat with the exception of a few man-made wooden features. I made the mistake of waiting until midday and battling the heat during my ride. Needless to say, I wasn’t on my “A” game this day. Lol. Overall this is a great trail to ride if you are in the area and need to stretch your legs.
