West, TX Explosion Relief
A short video encompassing many aspects of what has happened in the last 5 days with the fertilizer plant explosion in West, TX3on April 17, 2014. Everything from the initial blast itself, to the breaking news reports, the first responders, and the community coming together to bring relief to the citizens of West. In the days following the tragedy, people from all over the state of Texas came together, donating money, time, and supplies for the relief efforts. Also, Baylor University's annual student holiday, Diadeloso, was transformed into DiaDelWest in support of the victimes of the explosion. Throughout the day, people donated blood, loaded 4 trailers full of food, water, and supplies, and gave monetary donations. On Thursday, April 18, the Diadeloso concert, featuring Green River Ordinance and Five for Fighting was moved to the Ferrell Center in Waco, being transformed into a benefit concert for the victims. John Ondrasik, lead singer for Five for Fighting, wore a West t-shirt and really emphasized the importance of coming together for the West community. This video is dedicated to all of the first responders of Central Texas.
The song in the video is Superman by Five for Fighting, made famous after the events of 9/11.
Legends Scholarship honors Walter Umphrey
BEAUMONT - From Lamar University - Lamar University and the Beaumont Foundation of America have announced the 15th in a series of Southeast Texas Legends Scholarships, this one honoring Walter Umphrey, founding partner of Provost Umphrey Law Firm. The 00,000 endowed scholarship will assist underserved Lamar University students, said Lamar President James Simmons.Born in Port Arthur, Umphrey received a football scholarship to Southern Methodist University then completed his bachelor's in business administration degree at Baylor in 1959. Umphrey worked as an insurance adjustor before entering Baylor Law School and earning his Juris Doctorate degree in 1965.Umphrey's dedication to the law in conjunction with the rights of individuals was inspired while being reared in the home of a justice of the peace. He began his career as a prosecuting attorney and ultimately Chief Felony Prosecutor for the Jefferson County District Attorney's office.He founded Provost Umphrey Law Firm with partner David Provost in 1969. For more than forty years, Provost Umphrey's mission has remained to seek justice for those suffering from a personal injury, wrongful death or other legal wrong across Texas and nationwide through their lawyers in Beaumont and Houston, Little Rock, Arkansas and Nashville, Tennessee.Umphrey is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern District of Texas, and the United States Supreme Court. His legal affiliations include the Port Arthur Bar Association, Jefferson County Bar Association, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice, American Bar Association and State Bar of Texas. Trump cheers NCAA champs Baylor Lady Bears
(29 Apr 2019) President Donald Trump hosted the Lady Bears, Baylor University's championship women's basketball team, in the Oval Office.
This is the third time the team has won the national championship. The team finished the season 37-1.
The Baylor team, which beat Notre Dame 82-81 earlier this month, was served fast food from Wendy's, McDonald's and Burger King in the State Dining Room, the same spread that other sports teams ate during their visits to the Trump White House.
The team gave Trump a signed basketball, a national championship hat and a Baylor basketball jersey emblazoned with No. 1.
He joked that the sleeveless jersey would let him show off his toned arms.
Coach Kim Mulkey suggested that it might look better on first lady Melania Trump.
The president briefly put on a team cap, joking it would mess up my hair, but that is OK.

Baylor announces gift for basketball pavilion
The athletic department tweeted Tuesday that it is thrilled to announce a lead gift for the Baylor Basketball Pavilion. This new facility will be made possible thanks to recently publicized $100 million anonymous gift as a part of Baylor University’s Give Light Campaign.

Janet Wood Reno (July 21, 1938 – November 7, 2016) was an American lawyer who served as the Attorney General of the United States from 1993 until 2001. President Bill Clinton nominated Reno on February 11, 1993, and the Senate confirmed her the following month. She was the first woman to serve as Attorney General and the second-longest serving Attorney General in U.S. history, after William Wirt.
Reno was born and raised in Miami, Florida. After leaving to attend Cornell University and Harvard Law School, she returned to Miami where she started her career at private law firms. Her first foray into government was as a staff member for the Judiciary Committee of the Florida House of Representatives. She then worked for the Dade County State Attorney's Office before returning to private practice. She was elected to the Office of State Attorney five times.
