Paris’s Best New Museum: The Foundation Louis Vuitton | Condé Nast Traveler
The Foundation Louis Vuitton teamed up with Frank Gehry to design a new museum for the city of Paris. Located in the Bois de Boulogne, where Paris meets Neuilly-sur-Seine, The Foundation Louis Vuitton acts as a philanthropic effort to strengthen the area of western Paris, promote artwork of the 20th and 21st century, and, in 55-years time, give the museum and its land back to the people and City of Paris.

Fondation Louis Vuitton - Paris, France
This is the video which I shot during my visit to Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, France. The building is a real architectural masterpiece designed by American architect Frank Gehry. It is located on the outskirts of Bois de Boulogne and the upper levels offer astonishing views of Paris, especially the Eiffel Tower and La Defense. Fondation Louis Vuitton is entirely dedicated to modern art.

It is impossible to miss the curving and sinuous structure located in Paris's 16th arrondissement, which has the bearing of a ship built of glass. This building is the Fondation Louis Vuitton; the museum and cultural centre designed by modern architecture's greatest transformer of shapes, Frank Gehry—the Pritzker prize-winning designer whose buildings have earned him the status of a household name.

fashion tycoons Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour, were all present at the building's inauguration.
The nearly 12,000 square metre building, consisting of glass casing and white concrete panels, houses the private art collection of Bernard Arnault, the CEO of the world's biggest luxury group, LVMH. Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris - Inaugural Exhibition - Unravel Travel TV
The internationally renowned artist dubbed the Philosopher of Spectacle, Olafur Eliasson, launched the inaugural exhibition at Paris’s newest art museum and cultural centre, The Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, France.
The Danish-Icelandic artist takes the honour of the first to exhibit at the Fondation Louis Vuitton after gaining gravitas as one of the world’s leading artists in sculpture and large-scale installation. Eliasson is intrinsically linked with the Fondation with his work permanently featured in the museums grotto - a forest of mirrored yellow columns, which cast a sunny glow and infinite repetitions of passersby. As part of Eliasson’s first solo show in France since his 2002 exhibition at the Musée d’Art modern de la Ville de Paris, Contact (this latest exhibition) envelops visitors in a choreography of moving light and shadows, seemingly transporting them into the darkness of outer space. On the roof, Olafur Eliasson will install an apparatus that tracks the sun and, at certain hours of the day, directs light rays onto a multifaceted, geometric sculpture suspended within the building.
In 2006 at the initiative of Bernard Arnault, LVMH created the Foundation Louis Vuitton. Designed by American architect Frank Gehry, it is part of the sponsorship policy in favour of art and culture developed by the group for over twenty years. The Louis Vuitton Fondation, a private cultural initiative, aims to promote and support contemporary art to a wider public.
The exhibition will run to 16 February 2015
Fondation Louis Vuitton, 8 Avenue du Mahatma Gandhi, Bois de Boulogne - 75116 - Paris, France.

Fondation Louis Vuitton Paris France
Fondation Louis Vuitton Paris France - Frank Gehri - 2006-2014
Formed around a collection of works of art of essentially contemporary inspiration, the multiple missions of the Fondation Louis Vuitton include the presentation of permanent collections; the organisation of temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary art and of multi-disciplinary performances; the holding of meetings, debates and symposia; and the development of educational activities intended particularly for younger audiences.
This building, located in Paris in the Bois de Boulogne and adjoining the Jardin d'Acclimatation, was designed by the architect Frank Gehry. Twelve large glass sails cover the body of the building, an assembly of white blocks referred to as the iceberg, giving it its volume, its lightness and its vitality. Placed in a basin specially created for the purpose, the building fits easily into the natural environment, between woods and garden, while at the same time playing with light and mirror effects. The building brings together the full range of the architect's methods, aesthetic codes and modes of expression, while representing a new stage in his work. He revolutionizes the use of glass to give life to his vision of a building that is light, luminous and in motion, designed to merge harmoniously with a late 19th century park and to house exceptional works of art. Moving away from the conventional approach to glass surfaces, he has developed a revolutionary way of fashioning this material that makes it possible to curve, in an individualized way and to the nearest millimeter, each of the 3,600 panes in the twelve glass sails that give the structure its volume. In order to conform to Frank Gehry's design, the men involved in the construction work have found solutions to numerous unprecedented technical challenges, from the initial conception of the project right through to its finishing touches. In particular, the manufacture of glass was an opportunity to rethink the know-how. A special furnace was created to meet the requirements for curves and projections imposed by the designer. Frank Gehry's creativity requires a constant technical innovation. Both in the design of the concept itself and the approach to the construction work, the Fondation Louis Vuitton project turns the principles of architecture upside down. From the very first stages onwards, all the partners brought together for the project have used a single tool: Digital Project, a software program developed by Gehry Technologies on the basis of the Catia program created by Dassault Aviation.
The construction of the Fondation Louis Vuitton building conforms to the LVMH Group's commitment to sustainable development. From the initial launching of the project, the fauna and flora and the local water-tables have been examined and analyzed, the acoustic impact and the anticipated arrival the general public have all been taken into consideration. The ecological and human bases of sustainable development have thus been placed at the heart of each stage of the project: its design, construction and subsequent use. Once the building is open, the preservation of its natural resources will continue to be a constant concern. Rainwater will be recovered, for example, so as to supply those systems not requiring drinking water. Stored and filtered, this water will be used preferably to clean the façades and glass roofs of the building. It will also supply the basin on which the Fondation building is positioned, and finally will also be used to water the plants and terraces. The consumption of the drinking water used in the Fondation building is therefore limited and is adjusted to requirements.

Fondation Louis Vuitton
Sponsored and funded by Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE, better known as LVMH, is a worldwide luxury goods conglomerate headquartered in Paris. Under the umbrella of LVMH is the Christian Dior brans as well as almost 20 Premium Wines and Spirts Brands, including Dom Perignon and Hennessy. Luxury consumer goods within the LVMH family include 17 Fashion retailers anchored by its Vuitton brand and complimented by brands such as Dior and Givenchy. Jewelry, Perfumes and cosmetic brands round out the luxury portfolio of LVMH along with specialty retail, hotels, shipyards and newspapers. With tens of billions of dollars in annual sales and total equity exceeding $30 Billion dollars, LVMH has been a great patron of the arts.
The prized contribution of LVMH to the arts is the Fondation Louis Vuitton (FLV), Fondation Louis-Vuitton pour la creation an art museum and cultural center located in the famed park Bois de Boulogne in Paris. First conceived in 2001 by Bernard Amault, an avid art collector and the Chairman of LVMH. He commissioned Frank Gehry to design the monumental tribute to the arts as a living cultural center where they could display their Art collection, along with featured exhibits and cultural events.
With a proposed budget of $130 million dollars and plans to open by 2010, the project was stalled by legal battles from activists who felt that Bois de Boulogne park was not the proper place for the museum building. The park is the second largest park in Paris designed and opened during the reign of Napoleon III. After legal challenges and law changes, the project proceeded, and Fondation Louis Vuitton museum building opened to the public in October 2015 at a believed to be cost of $143 million dollars. In an article published in Marianne, a French news magazine it was revealed that the actual cost of FLV was $900 Million Dollars.
The building itself was envisioned as a work of art and was designed by Frank Gehry to be just that. Designing a building that mimicked the shape of the wind filled sails of a sailboat. Curved glass, accented with white flowery terraces, in a two-story structure that appears to be more, housed 11 galleries in a variety of sizes, a large 350 seat auditorium, with a lower ground floor and multilevel roof terraces for events and art installations.
More than 400 designers and engineers at Frank Gehry’s office contributed to the drawing, modeling, 3 D molding, engineering and construction rules that went into building the FLV museum and cultural center. Testing never used construction techniques, when FLV was fully completed it contained 3600 glass panels, some molded for the perfect curvatures, and 19,000 concrete panels to house the permanent and rotating art collections.
Various artists and sculptors were commissioned for site specific installations. Ellsworth Kelly, made a curtain consisting of 12 colored strips, entitled Spectrum VIII for the auditorium. Olafur Eliasson’s installation was titled Inside the Horizon and was made of 43 prism shaped yellow columns illuminated from within that were the sentry of a walkway.
FLV is open 6 days a week, closed on Tuesday and has a full ever-changing schedule of artistic and cultural events throughout the year. FLV is accessible to all ages with walking tours geared for even the 3-5-year-old age group. Family tours, hands on art workshops and smartphone apps are designed to make culture and art a Fondation in every one’s life at any age.
Even the menu at FLV is artistic at “Le Frank” restaurant. Under the direction of Michelin star chef, “Le Frank” is encompassed by light which inspires the menu that chef Jean-Loius Nomicos. Featuring a flavorful menu of French-Inspired cuisine, complemented by international dishes for visitors throughout the world, Chef Nomicos seeks to create dishes that appeal to the palate as well as the senses.
As are the exhibits at FLV, the menu is an ever-changing presentation of culinary delights. Frank Gehry fish hang from the expansive glass ceilings of the restaurant space as you enjoy the menus of the day. Day time menus highlight the reinterpretations of flavors while breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, aperitifs are served for all, including children’s menus. During the day, Chef Nomicos might offer jambon-beurre sandwich, a classic blanquette-style stew or dishes inspired by Asia or Italy.
Afternoon delights at ‘Le Frank’ include cold dishes, pastries and ice cream; enticing, addictive and creative items from a classic French repertoire. As twilight changes the mood and atmosphere of the restaurant, it is time for Champagne hour, complemented by sweet and savory treats.
