Mayor Jack Seiler Interview
trippscott.com John P. Jack Seiler was sworn in as Mayor of the City of Fort Lauderdale on March 17, 2009. Prior to being elected Mayor, Seiler served eight years in the Florida House of Representatives. During his tenure as a State Representative, he chaired the Broward Legislative Delegation in 2007-2008 and was Vice Chair of the Delegation in 2006-2007.
Mayor Seiler sat down with Ed Pozzuoli, President of Tripp Scott, to discuss all of the plans surrounding the Fort Lauderdale 100 year anniversary celebration, black history month, black pioneers month, the St. Patricks Day celebration and parade, the Wade In celebration to remember the desegregation of Fort Lauderdale Beach (July 4, 1961).
The Mayor discusses his plans and vision for making downtown Fort Lauderdale more dynamic by making the river walk more inviting with better lighting and parking with revised building requirements and other things to make it more of a mass transit community. He discusses the new budget and the difficult desisions surrounding the cuts needed to keep the costs down but maintain the proper safety measures expected in the police and fire departments.
We took a very conservative approach, Seiler explained, by cutting 200 positions which obviously saves the city a lot of money. We've also done a number of things to create greater, and more, efficiency by eliminating 12 million dollars from the operating budget.
They were able to do all this and not raise the taxes. The average taxpayer pays less now than they did the year before he contends so we're very proud that fact that we were able to make ends meet, tighten our belts, but not increase the burden on the taxpayer.
Of the recent difficult economic times Mayor Seiler feels the corner has been turned, he says, people are coming to City Hall talking about projects, talking about activities and events and I'm excited.
When I got elected I said 'My goal was that this city has got to be the best place to live, work, play, visit, and raise a family' and I'm extremely excited about the future of Fort Lauderdale.

CODY SNODGRES RE BLACK OPS WITH OLE DAMMEGARD
An interview with Black Ops Whistleblower, Cody Snodgres with investigator/author Ole Dammegard Wednesday, December 6th @ 1pm PT.
From Ole Dammegard: …”
Dear Kerry,
…”After 22 years of silence, my friend and former independent Black Ops Contractor Cody Snodgres, has decided to step forward as a whistleblower. In 1994 he was offered 1 000 000 USD by the CIA to bomb the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City. When he turned it down, he went from being an asset to a liability and the agency then tried to kill him on several occasions. Two times he died, but hospital staff managed to bring him back to life. This will also cover Cody’s experience with black ops and money laundered through the Clinton and Bush crime families.”–paraphrased message from Ole Dammegard

Stories of Tragedy, Survival and How to Move Forward
Today on The Balancing Act, we sit down with survivors of devastating school shootings that occurred 19 years apart. Columbine survivor Crystal Miller has gone on to become an internationally known author, speaker and advocate for survivors of school violence. Sadly Parkland, FL also just suffered another tragic incident. We also hear from Carson Campbell, a student at Parkland, Florida's Stoneman Douglas, the scene of a mass shooting that killed 17 students and teachers this past February 14. Carson was right next to the freshman building, where the shooter went on his rampage. We learn about the importance of leaning on the community in these times of mourning, and how vital it is to embrace the grieving process. Plus, we get a father's perspective: how Doug Campbell reacted the moment he learned his son's school was the scene of an active shooter.
We also hear from a parent whose daughter was an acquaintance of accused Stoneman Douglas school shooter Nikolas Cruz. In fact, Stephanie even drove Cruz to school a few times in middle school.
We are also joined in the studio by our very own Chef Ralph Pagano, who talks about how his life has changed since suffering severe injuries in a kitchen explosion in Bimini last June. Given a second chance at life, Ralph has found a new understanding of the importance of family, and is learning that he wants to fit his career into his life, rather than fitting his life into his work.
Also, we sit down with Holiday Retirement's Lilly Donohue and Rick Wigginton, who explain that many older people find themselves becoming more isolated in their own homes. Transitioning into a tight-knit community like Holiday Retirement's properties -- across 42 states -- can help them get more out of their golden years.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Lynching is the practice of murder by a group by extrajudicial action. Lynchings in the United States rose in number after the American Civil War in the late 1800s, following the emancipation of slaves; they declined in the 1920s but have continued to take place into the 21st century. Most lynchings were of African-American men in the South, but women were also lynched, and white lynchings of blacks occurred in Midwestern and border states, especially during the 20th-century Great Migration of blacks out of the South. The purpose was to enforce white supremacy and intimidate blacks by racial terrorism. On a per capita basis lynchings were also common in California and the Old West, especially of Latinos, although they represented less than 10% of the national total. Native Americans and Asian Americans were also lynched. Other ethnicities (white, Finnish-American, Jewish, Irish, Italian-American) were occasionally lynched.
The stereotype of a lynching is a hanging, because hangings are what crowds of people saw, and are also easy to photograph. Some hangings were professionally photographed and sold as postcards, which were popular souvenirs in some parts of the U.S. Victims were also killed by mobs in a variety of other ways: shot repeatedly, burned alive, forced to jump off a bridge, dragged behind cars, and the like. Sometimes they were tortured as well, with body parts sometimes removed and sold as souvenirs. Occasionally lynchings were not fatal (see Lynching survivors in the United States). A mock lynching, putting the rope around the neck of someone suspected of concealing information, might be used to compel confessions.According to the Tuskegee Institute, 4,743 people were lynched between 1882 and 1968 in the United States, including 3,446 African Americans and 1,297 whites. More than 73 percent of lynchings in the post-Civil War period occurred in the Southern states. According to the Equal Justice Initiative, 4,084 African-Americans were lynched between 1877 and 1950 in the South.Lynchings were most frequent from 1890 to the 1920s, with a peak in 1892. Lynchings were often large mob actions, attended by hundreds or thousands of watchers, sometimes announced in advance in newspapers and in one instance with a special train. However, in the later 20th century lynchings became more secretive, and were conducted by smaller groups of people.
According to Michael Pfeifer, the prevalence of lynching in postbellum America reflects lack of confidence in the due process judicial system. He links the decline in lynching in the early twentieth century with the advent of the modern death penalty: legislators renovated the death penalty...out of direct concern for the alternative of mob violence. He also cites the modern, racialized excesses of u ...
