George Washington: From Delegate to Commander (Part 8 of 10)
The Coming of the American Revolution: Part 8 of 10.
Robert J. Allison, Chairman of the Department of History at Suffolk University, tells the story of Massachusetts in the period leading up to the American War of Independence.
The people of Massachusetts had more power over their own government than anyone else in the British empire. These independent minded colonists increased in their feelings of bitterness and resentment as the crown raised taxes on American goods and sent soldiers to enforce the new policies. These building tensions eventually led to outward expressions of resistance. The Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party made the American Revolution inevitable.
Dr. Robert J. Allison is chairman of the history department of Suffolk University in Boston and teaches courses in American Constitutional history and the history of Boston at Harvard Extension School. He is the author of several books, including The Crescent Obscured: The United States and the Muslim World, 1776-1815 (2000); A Short History of Boston (2004); Stephen Decatur, American Naval Hero (2005); The Boston Massacre (2006); The Boston Tea Party (2007); and The American Revolution: A Concise History (2011).
From Boston to Yorktown: Tales of the National Trails

Annual 24-hrs colleges prayer, fasting & worship @ Cambridge Commons/Harvard University.
We are to gather under the Tree, where George Washington established the Continental Army on July 3rd, 1775. During the we are going to Harvard Yard, in front of Memorial Church.
Boston, Massachusetts remembered The Great Leader, George Washington
by erecting this memorial in 1869. Today George Washington, in uniform
on horseback, welcomes comers to Boston's Public Garden. The statue
was created by Thomas Ball, and at that time was the first to portray
the Father of His Country astride a horse. Under this tree at
WASHINGTON first took command OF THE AMERICAN ARMY July 3rd 1775 This
memorial to General George Washington is at Cambridge Commons in
Cambridge, Massachusetts which is located directly accross from
Harvard University.
Harvard University is an American private Ivy League research
university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States,
established in 1636 by the Massachusetts legislature. Harvard is the
oldest institution of higher learning in the United States[7] and the
first corporation (officially The President and Fellows of Harvard
College) chartered in the country. Harvard's history, influence, and
wealth have made it one of the most prestigious universities in the
world.
Harvard was named after its first benefactor, John Harvard. Although
never formally affiliated with a church, the college primarily trained
Congregationalist and Unitarian clergy. Harvard's curriculum and
students became secular throughout the 18th century and by the 19th
century had emerged as the central cultural establishment among Boston
elites.[
