HIKE #1: Great Head Trail Loop
AllTrails description and review:
Jumping off from Sand Beach, a very popular spot for park lovers, the Great Head Trail Loop is a moderate excursion that totals 1.6 miles if you complete the entire thing. Great vantage points of the cliffs and ocean and plenty of opportunities to scamper around on the coastal rocks and get great photos of tidepools and much more.
It is ranked #8 of 145 trails in Acadia National Park by AllTrails.com . And we highly recommend it!

HIKE #2: Precipice Trail
AllTrails description and review:
If you want some heart-pounding thrills as you scale the side of a mountain and hold on for dear life, this is the trail for you. It is not for the faint of heart even though it is only 1.4 miles round trip, and it is not recommended for young children. There are signs warning of serious injury and death as a possibility on this trek so be sure you are ready to go all in on this one.
**Note: The trail is normally closed from Mar 15 to Aug 15 due to peregrine falcon nesting in the area, but we lucked out this year and they had just opened it back up the day before our hike in late July.
AllTrails ranks this trail as #3 out of 145 trails in Acadia, the highest ranking out of these three trails we got to hike. Not to be missed, folks!

HIKE #3: Ocean Path Trail
AllTrails description and review:
In all honesty, we just hiked a small portion of this trail, from Thunder Hole to Monument Cove. There was just so much to take in and enjoy along the coast line on that foggy evening that our two hours went far too fast and the light started fading. But what we did see was truly magical, as you can pick up from the video (which still can't do it justice, obviously).
The entire trail is a total of 3.9 miles out and back, but you can do any size section of it that suits you and I guarantee you will get everything you bargained for and more.
AllTrails.com ranks it as #7 out of 145 trails in Acadia National Park, so you know it's not too shabby. :)

We definitely hope these three trail recommendations help you to make the most of your visit to Acadia National Park. We didn't get to see even a fraction of what the park offers in the week that we spent in the area, but I have every intention of getting back to Acadia one of these days to continue my exploration.
As always, thank you so much for watching and for sharing this entire experience with us. We are extremely grateful and are so glad to have you along for the adventure.

Site Scout - Great Head Trail, Acadia National Park
Sorry to disappoint you if the title led you to believe this was about something else. This is the 3rd video in my Site Scout series. My ideas for these videos are evolving as I put each one together. At this point it looks like there's going to be two types of videos; (1) trail guides like this one and (2) single location videos that cover iconic locations.
I still plan to include video clips, but I'm working with materials from past trips. In the future, I'll gather what I need to make more complete videos.
I'm still looking for input if you'd like to leave a (preferably constructive) comment and let me know what you liked, what you didn't like, etc.

Thunder Hole, Acadia National Park, Maine, United States, North America
Thunder Hole is the place in Acadia National Park to experience the thunder of the sea against the rocky shores of Maine! On calm days you may wonder what the fuss is all about. But wait until the waves kick up a few notches. Thunder Hole is a small inlet, naturally carved out of the rocks, where the waves roll into. At the end of this inlet, down low, is a small cavern where, when the rush of the wave arrives, air and water is forced out like a clap of distant thunder. Water may spout as high as 40 feet with a thunderous roar! Hence the name: Thunder Hole. This spot also offers gorgeous panoramic views of Otter Cliff, on the right or south side, Schoodic Peninsula in the far distance, and Sand Beach and Great Head to the left or to the north. Thunder Hole is a great place to stand and watch or sit and relax, taking in the spectacular sights, sounds and smells. One of the pleasant things that greets you upon arrival, depending upon the time of year, is the aroma of wild roses. Right next to the stairs that lead down to the ocean, are large groupings of wild roses or rose hips. Rose hips are a potent source of vitamin C, at least until they become dry or are processed. Note: The Island Explorer Shuttle Bus stops here about every half hour during normal seasonal daytime hours. The last bus leaves at 6:58 P.M. Check their schedule to verify.
THE GREAT CAVE OF ACADIA NATIONAL PARK
Finally the Great Cave of Acadia National Park has been located. For many years its exact location has been a closely guarded secret with only a handful of people knowing where it lay. After reading about the Great Cave, a group of adventuers decided to go looking for it, and their efforts paid off.
When the Precipice trail was first built, rudolph brunnow explored ideas to lure more hikers to it, and came up with an idea. He would built a trail off of the newly built Precipice trail which would take hikers to what he called THE GREAT CAVE - a deep cave in the mountainside with a 100 foot high opening and which runs 100 feet back into the mountain.
A closeup on the video from an old map shows the loop rudolph brunnow constructed, the second half of the loop includes a stone and metal bridge, still in place today. More information can be found on the websites below;

Acadia National Park in Maine is beautiful. Too bad during this trip it was covered in ocean fog and overcast skies, limiting visibility to 100ft at times. So unfortunately most of the scenes I had story-boarded had to be skipped. Missed out on the milkyway timelapse across the pond, and the first sunrise in the US on top of Cadillac mountain.
Despite the weather, this was a great trip and I think the video came out well, also.

Hiking Cadillac Mountain - Acadia National Park, Maine - 2012
We climbed up Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park in Maine. The hike up the North Ridge Trail took us about 3 hours, going from essentially sea level up to 1,532 ft. along a rocky path. You have a strong feeling of accomplishment and beautiful views at the summit where you find restrooms, a gift shop and tourists in flip flops who rode the bus to the top.
