Breckenridge is a Colorado town at the base of the Rocky Mountains’ Tenmile Range. It's known for its ski resort, year-round alpine activities and Gold Rush history. The Victorian core of this former mining town is preserved as the Breckenridge National Historic District, running primarily along Main Street, with colorfully painted buildings from the 1880s and '90s housing shops, galleries and restaurants.
Set at the foot of the marvelous Tenmile Range, Breck is a surviving mining town with a vibrant historic district. The down-to-earth vibe is a refreshing change from Colorado's glitzier resorts, and the family-friendly ski runs and gold-nugget history make it Summit County's most atmospheric destination. Regardless of whether it’s snow or shine, the BreckConnect Gondola up to the base of Peak 8 is where the fun begins.
The vast, hulking mountains here rise and fall, merging seamlessly into one another to present a perfect alpine backdrop. Laced with ski runs and hiking trails and stitched together with pine groves, they blaze gold in the morning, glow pink at dusk and fade into a deep shadowy blue as the sky pales then darkens, revealing endless stars best viewed from a frothing hot tub next to the roaring Blue River.

Colorado and southern 9 at rotary snowplow park in Breckinridge, Colorado
Part 3 of MrBNSFtrain's Colorado 2013 vacation.
I visited Colorado and Southern 9 the same day I saw the California Zephyr in Glenwood Canyon. We stayed the night in Frisco, Colorado (where I thought the St. Louis and San Francisco railroad was from). We visited the museum park in Frisco, and i asked if there was a railroad depot in town. There wasn't, but they told us about the engine in nearby Breckinridge.
The engine on display was Colorado and Southern 9, a narrow gauge 2-6-0, along with a rotary snowplow and box car.
Everything else is explained in the video.
Music is Across The fluttering Dunes from Yoshi's Wooly World.

Como, Colorado 1929-2018
Como, Colorado was once the division point for the Denver, South Park & Pacific, which eventually became the Colorado & Southern Railway. The line from Denver reached Como and then split with one route to Gunnison via the Alpine Tunnel and the other over Boreas Pass and onto Leadville.
Incredible work has been done in the last several years to restore the roundhouse, turntable, and depot. New track has been laid and excursions are run occasionally with a steam locomotive.
I visited Como in 2018 for the first time since my first visit in 2004. The restoration is simply mind-boggling as you can see in the differences of the photos.
If you haven't been to Como, this will give you a small look at the dramatic changes that have happened and a look inside the 1881 roundhouse. In just the year since we visited in 2018, more rolling stock has arrived and more track has been laid. These are exciting times for those with a passion for the DSP&P/C&S!

Weminuche- Colorado's greatest wilderness
I revised and rescored the music to this part of the Fourteener Suite.
A triangle plays two notes during the development of the lullaby theme 9:32 into the music. Come home. This is the Come home theme. I trembled when it was written, rocking with the gentle rhythm. It was like somebody else was touching my pen, guiding it.
When it comes back, two more times, it is richer, with deeper tapestry, lusher harmony each time.
Do I dare say it? This wilderness is the closest thing to God I know. Come home fills my eyes with tears, because I know time is drawing short. Things are happening. Little signs, here and there.
Do I want to hang on, or do I just want it to be over and be with God?
I find myself asked, God. Please just take me home. But then I can't, because too many are too dependent on me. Not now. Not yet. Let me get those loose ends secure first.
I would like my ashes scattered on Vestal Peak.

Boreas Pass - Colorado
For the full trail guide please visit:
Boreas Pass (pronounced bor-ee-yus) follows the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad bed. From 1882 to 1937, the nation’s highest narrow-gauge railroad operated over the pass, running from Como to Breckenridge, then on to Leadville.
As it was originally designed for a railroad, the route is gentle, smooth, and never climbs at more than a gradual 3% grade. (My wife has nicknamed it Boringest Pass.) The road is easily passable by passenger cars in almost any weather. However, much of the road is above treeline and the summit crosses the Continental Divide at 11,500 feet, so be prepared for high alpine conditions, including rapidly changing weather.

2006 - Como Depot
The town of Como, Colorado, on the northern edge of Colorado's South Park served as a junction for the Denver, South Park, & Pacific Railroad. From Como, trains traveled north to Breckenridge, west to Gunnison, and east to Denver. At Como, the railroad built a large roundhouse, hotel, and depot. When the railroad stopped operating in 1937, they left all three buildings, which remain standing. In 2006, the deteriorating condition of the depot led to its being listed on Colorado Preservation Inc's Colorado's Most Endangered Places list. The attention brought to the site through that listing is in part responsible for its restoration today. This is what it looked like in 2006. It's restored condition can be seen in this clip:
