Holy Mother of God Church of Bethlehem (Georgian: ზემო ბეთლემის მაცხოვრის შობის ტაძარი, Zemo Betlemis Matskhovris Shobis Tadzari; Armenian: Բեթղեհեմի Սուրբ Աստվածածին եկեղեցի or Betlehemi Surb Astvatsatsin Yekeghetsi) (also now known as the Upper Bethlehem Church) is a church in Tbilisi, Georgia. Built as an Armenian church in the 18th century, on the site of an older church, it now operates as a Georgian orthodox church.
The Atashgah is an ancient Zoroastrian temple in Tbilisi, Georgia. It is located around 100 meters east of the Holy Mother of God Church of Bethlehem, on the Old Town slopes northeast of the Mother Georgia statue. It is an ancient brick building with a protective curved perspex roof.
The Atashgah has been preserved due to the fact that it has been discreetly camouflaged in the city. There is little information as to when it was built, but some historians refer to it as having been built in the Sassanian era. During the wars between Iranian and Turkish Muslims, Tbilisi fell into Turkish hands and the church was temporarily turned in to a mosque. Lately some Turks have tried to restore the Atashgah into an active mosque. The Government of Georgia agreed, on the condition that the mosque would not be active. The parties did not agree and this is where we interred the Arena. On 16 September 2013 the Zonouzi family entered the church, with the agreement of the keeper of the Atashgah. The Fire of Ahura Mazda (Armazi in Georgian) was set alight, with prayers, and Zoroastrian ceremonies were held.

Orthodox Christendom marks Christmas on January 7
Orthodox Christendom marks Christmas on January 7
2011-01-07
The Orthodox Christendom marks Christmas on January 7. Festive liturgies, regarding the holy day, were held at all acting churches throughout Georgia yesterday night.
Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, Mitropolit of Tskhum-Abhazeti Eparchy, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II conducted a festive church service at the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral in Tbilisi.
Number of believers attended the festive liturgy that started on the Christmas Eve at Sameba Cathedral.
A Christmas Epistle was then read. The Christmas ended a 40-day fast that began on November 28 for the believers.
Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary as a fulfillment of the Old Testament's Messianic prophecy. The Bible contains two accounts which describe the events surrounding Jesus' birth. Depending on one's perspective, these accounts either differ from each other or tell two versions of the same story.
These biblical accounts are found in the Gospel of Matthew, namely Matthew 1:18, and the Gospel of Luke, specifically Luke 1:26 and 2:40. According to these accounts, Jesus was born to Mary, assisted by her husband Joseph, in the city of Bethlehem.
