Jacksonville Arboretum Highlights
These are some of the highlights from the Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens, in Jacksonville, FL. I have take some interesting places along the hike from a couple of the longer trails and made it into this short little video to show you some of the interesting and cool things that the arboretum has to offer.
The camera used for this video is an Astek ActionPro HD filmed in 720p. The processing that YouTube does has degraded the video a bit, but I also wanted to compress it some to make the upload file size NOT be so enormous, either.
Enjoy!
Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens Hike
Here's a video I took while jaunting through a part of the Jacksonville Arboretum today during some nice, sun shining weather. The arboretum is located in the Arlington are of Jacksonville, off of Monument Rd., near the Regency Mall area. They have a wonderful set of hiking trails and a lake, with streams all around and ravines as well. The hiking trails range in length from anywhere around 1/3 mile to about 1 mile thereabouts. Everything is very well maintained and a lot of the trees are marked. They also have plenty of information areas and markers that you can interact with along the way using a QR Code scanner app on your smart phone to receive additional information about what you're seeing.

Jacksonville Arboretum - Jones Creek
A little video of mine of Jacksonville (FL) Arboretum and Gardens. Jones Creek, which flows into the St. Johns River, flows around the park, and a nature-trail runs alongside it at the park's south end.
A few of the photos in the first 2-1/2 minutes are from A Brush With Nature art-event that was held in the park in May of 2011.
Music: Moonglow performed by Linda Witsell (flute), with Womack Howard (piano), Bobby Ray (bass), Ben Adkins (drums).
The remainder of the video is a soothing, relaxing meditation on one of the little waterfalls along Jones Creek at the south end of the park. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Jacksonville is a large city in northeastern Florida where the St. John’s River meets the Atlantic Ocean. A regional business center, it has many museums and cultural offerings. Swimming and surfing are popular at nearby barrier island beaches such as Jacksonville Beach and Neptune Beach. Championship golf courses in the area include Ponte Vedra Beach’s TPC Sawgrass, headquarters of the PGA Tour.
Jacksonville is situated on the Atlantic coast of northeast Florida. It is the most populous city in the of Florida measured by the number of residents. But Jacksonville covers an enormous area, and is in fact the largest city in area in the continental United States. The city has a large area, but also has a low density rate. The metropolitan area extends beyond Duval County into Nassau, St. Johns, Baker and Clay counties and has a population of more than 1.25 million people. The city's metropolitan population is not the largest in Florida, it is exceeded by the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area, Tampa, and Orlando metro areas.
Jacksonville is widely known as a hard-working, blue-collar city. While a substantial portion of Jacksonville's economy is supported by both of its large U.S. Navy bases (Naval Air Station Jacksonville and Naval Station Mayport), it is also a hotbed for the banking, logistics, insurance, and healthcare sectors. The downtown skyline, notable for its bridges of various styles and colors, spans along the St. Johns River with a pedestrian river walk located on each bank. Although the bulk of Jacksonville's population is suburban in nature and spread throughout Duval County, renewed development efforts are currently underway in the urban core along with preservation efforts in its historic districts. Jacksonville is nicknamed JAX, or 'The Bold City'
At a whopping 840 sq miles, Jacksonville is the largest city by area in the contiguous United States and the most populous in Florida. The city sprawls along three meandering rivers, with sweeping bridges and twinkling city lights reflected in the water. A glut of high-rises, corporate HQs and chain hotels can make 'Jax' feel a little soulless, but patient exploration yields some interesting streets, curious characters and a Southern-fried, friendly heart.
The city's museums and restored historic districts are worth a wander if you have the time, and the Five Points and San Marco neighborhoods are charming, walkable areas lined with bistros, boutiques and bars. The Jacksonville area beaches – a world unto themselves – are 30 to 50 minutes' drive from the city, depending on traffic and where you're coming from.

Jacksonville is the largest city in Florida in terms of both area and population. In 2006, Jacksonville ranked as the US 12th most populous city.
The settlement that became Jacksonville was founded in 1791 as Cowford because of its location at a narrow point in the river where cattle once crossed.
In 1822, a year after the US acquired Florida from Spain, the city was renamed for the first military governor of the Florida Territory, General Andrew Jackson, who would later be elected President of the US.
Tallest building is the Bank of America Tower. It has a height of 617 ft (188 m) and includes 42 floors. Other notable structure is 37-story Modis Building.
