The Jacksonville Landing, festival marketplace near Jacksonville Riverwalk
The Jacksonville Landing
The Jacksonville Landing is a festival marketplace in Downtown Jacksonville, Florida. It is located at the intersection of Independent Drive and Laura Street, along the Jacksonville Riverwalk.[1] It was built by the Rouse Company at a cost of $37.5 million and opened in 1987.[2] The 126,000 square feet (11,706 m2) center is comparable to New York City's South Street Seaport, Boston's Faneuil Hall and Miami's Bayside Marketplace,[3] all developed by Rouse.
The two-level glass-and-steel complex with the orange roof is located on the north bank of the St. Johns River. The 9-acre (36,000 m2) complex features 65 stores as well as dining, with full-service restaurants plus a food court, and entertainment. The Landing stages a variety of special events.[3] There is weekly live music on the courtyard stage. Most events take place in the open brick courtyard in the center of the horseshoe shaped structure. Just before the Georgia-Florida football game in 2007, the Landing installed a 19x15 foot JumboTron in the courtyard.

LiveLeak - Surveillance Video Shows Fatal Shootout at Jacksonville Landing
Surveillance video shows how a deadly Martin Luther King Jr. Day shootout unfolded outside The Jacksonville Landing. Last month, the State Attorney’s Office ruled the Jan. 16 shooting, which killed 16-year-old Khamoi Petersen and wounded a 13-year-old bystander, was a justifiable use of deadly force. Tyrik Solomon, 18, who shot Petersen, was sentenced Feb. 22 to two years’ probation as part of a deal with prosecutors in which he avoided conviction and pled guilty to a felony count of carrying a concealed weapon. It appears that Petersen and Solomon exchanged words near the steps of the Landing, though what was said remains unclear. Petersen then pulls a handgun from his waistband and a confrontation ensues. Then Solomon pulls a handgun from under his shirt and both open fire. Seconds later, Petersen crumples to the ground as Solomon flees

WE WENT TO DOWNTOWN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA and THIS is WHAT HAPPENED
Today our family is headed to Downtown Jacksonville Florida on our family road trip, and Krista's aunt and uncle took us to this special store that I KNOW the kids (and Krista) is going to love!
While in Downtown Jacksonville Florida, we took the skytram into the heart of the downtown Jacksonville and we ended up at Sweet Pete's Candy Shop and we saw some HUGE Gummy candies, including a huge gummy snake and a HUGE gummy bear!
We had fun seeing all of the different candy that they make in house at the candy factory and after purchasing a few treat from the candy shop, we went and had dinner together.
For dinner we ate at the Candy Apple Cafe, which is inside the Sweet Pete's building. The dinner was delicious. After eating we stopped at Friendship Fountain in downtown Jacksonville Florida and we could see the Jacksonville Landing across the river.

Downtown Jacksonville Florida
Downtown Jacksonville Florida
Jacksonville is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Florida and the largest city by area in the contiguous United States. Jacksonville is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Florida and the largest city by area in the contiguous United States. It is the seat of Duval County, with which the city government consolidated in 1968. Consolidation gave Jacksonville its great size and placed most of its metropolitan population within the city limits. With an estimated population of 892,062 as of 2017, Jacksonville is also the most populous city in the southeastern United States. The Jacksonville metropolitan area has a population of 1,631,488 and is the fourth largest in Florida.
Jacksonville is centered on the banks of the St. Johns River in the First Coast region of northeast Florida, about 25 miles (40 km) south of the Georgia state line and 340 miles (550 km) north of Miami. The Jacksonville Beaches communities are along the adjacent Atlantic coast. The area was originally inhabited by the Timucua people, and in 1564 was the site of the French colony of Fort Caroline, one of the earliest European settlements in what is now the continental United States. Under British rule, settlement grew at the narrow point in the river where cattle crossed, known as Wacca Pilatka to the Seminole and the Cow Ford to the British. A platted town was established there in 1822, a year after the United States gained Florida from Spain; it was named after Andrew Jackson, the first military governor of the Florida Territory and seventh President of the United States.
Harbor improvements since the late 19th century have made Jacksonville a major military and civilian deep-water port. Its riverine location facilitates Naval Station Mayport, Naval Air Station Jacksonville, the U.S. Marine Corps Blount Island Command, and the Port of Jacksonville, Florida's third largest seaport. Jacksonville's military bases and the nearby Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay form the third largest military presence in the United States. Significant factors in the local economy include services such as banking, insurance, healthcare and logistics. As with much of Florida, tourism is important to the Jacksonville area, particularly tourism related to golf.People from Jacksonville may be called Jacksonvillians or Jaxsons (also spelled Jaxons).

Architecture
The architecture of Jacksonville varies in style. Few structures in the city center predate the Great Fire of 1901. The city is home to one of the largest collections of Prairie School style buildings outside the Midwest. Following the Great Fire of 1901, Henry John Klutho would come to influence generations of local designers with his works by both the Chicago School, championed by Louis Sullivan, and the Prairie School of architecture, popularized by Frank Lloyd Wright. Jacksonville is also home to a notable collection of Mid-Century modern architecture. Local architects Robert C. Broward, Taylor Hardwick, and William Morganadapted a range design principles, including International style, Brutalism, Futurism and Organicism, all applied with an American interpretation generally referred to today as Mid-century modern design. The architecture firms of Reynolds, Smith & Hills (RS&H) and Kemp, Bunch & Jackson (KBJ) have also contributed a number of important works to the city's modern architectural movement.
Jacksonville's early predominant position as a regional center of business left an indelible mark on the city's skyline. Many of the earliest skyscrapers in the state were constructed in Jacksonville, dating to 1902. The city last held the state height record from 1974 to 1981. The tallest building in Downtown Jacksonville's skyline is the Bank of America Tower, constructed in 1990 as the Barnett Center. It has a height of 617 ft (188 m) and includes 42 floors. Other notable structures include the 37-story Wells Fargo Center (with its distinctive flared base making it the defining building in the Jacksonville skyline), originally built in 1972-74 by the Independent Life and Accident Insurance Company, and the 28-floor Riverplace Tower . When completed in 1967, it was the tallest precast, post-tensioned concrete structure in the world.
