Hiking the Jordan Cliffs (Acadia National Park)
A fun section of the Jordan Cliffs Path while hiking in Acadia National Park. Very fun hike.
Top 8 Destinations in Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park is one of the most incredible places you will ever visit. This national park is known by many as the crown jewel of the north atlantic coast. In this video, I want to share with you 8 of my favorite destinations within this park.
*UPDATE - I FORGOT ONE TOP DESTINATION!! BE SURE TO VISIT BAR HARBOR AS WELL FOR MORE MAINE CULTURE*
Bar Harbor Walking Tour Video:
Starting off with the first spot in acadia, Thunder Hole is an excellent location to see waves crash in to a hole in the rocks, where they make a thunderous boom and spash dozens of feet in the air. This is a destination in Acadia that does not require a hike, and instead can be reached via a parking lot across the road, or by taking the free Acadia National Park shuttle.
Secondly, make sure to stop by the Acadia National Park visitor center. I always recommend talking to a ranger or at least reading the signs in a visitor center so you can be aware of any closed trails, trail maintenance, dangers, as well as the positive things to look for like the history, geology, and biology of the park.
Destination number 3 is Gorham mountain trail, which brings you up to a 525 ft. elevation summit with spectacular views over the coastline. Unfortunately it was crowded during my visit, but this view was still impressive
The fourth destination is Bass Harbor Head Light (lighthouse) which is the iconic short red light house. This light house is historic and offers a beautiful view of the Maine coastline. this is a symbol of Acadia National Park and should not be skipped!
Be sure to indulge in the north atlantic costal culture with some fresh lobster purchased from a local fisherman. Be sure to not pay too much at mass retailers, and instead buy directly from the fishermen.
Destination five is Jordan Pond, Jordan House, and the surrounding carriage trails. These trails are perfect for hiking, biking, and exploring the beautiful nature without much strain. The pond and house offer unique scenerey, and a full service restaurant. If you are looking to go out to eat, I recommend either going to the Jordan Pond House, or perhaps Bar Harbor (
Destination six is Penobscot mountain. I chose the Jordan Cliffs hike to the peak because it is less crowded than Cadillac mountain, and offers an equally amazing view. If you are not up for this hike, you can drive to the summit of cadillac mountain on a non-crowded day (or early in the morning to be the first people in the US to see the sunrise!) Jordan Cliffs Trail is probably the most strenuous hike I encountered in Acadia, so be sure to only take this trail if you are an experienced hiker, and if the rocks are not slippery
Destination seven is a ride along park loop road. I recommend either rifding the free shuttle, or driving this loop to see most of the park
Number eight then is Bubble Rock. This iconic boulder balances on the edge of a cliff. Bubble rock was moved many miles by glaciers long ago and weighs more than two african elephants. This is a must-see and is only a 1 mile hike to the summit.
Thank you for watching!! I hope you enjoy your trip to Acadia National Park!

This GoPro video shows the second part of the hike up Beehive Mountain, where the hike turns into a lot of boulder scrambling, aided by iron rungs that have been added to the rocks. The small blue paint spots mark the trail.
The video was shot on Thursday October 17th 2013, the first day the park reopened after the US government shutdown.

Acadia National Park Part 3 - Sieur de Monts
even though the weather was tenuous, we still continued our day in this beautiful part of the park.
Acadia national Park.mov
Maine, what a place. There are so many really cool spots here in this state and we have just started to uncover them. Acadia National Park is an amazing spot. Being the most eastern point on the east coast, giving you the opportunity to be the first to see a beautiful sunrise from Cadillac Mountain or you can bike all over the island on the carriage trails which started being created back in 1913. As you meander along these coastal roads circling the Mount Desert Island discovering these small fishing towns (Northeast Harbor, Southeast Harbor, Seal Harbor, Bass Harbor, etc) you can walk down the fishing warfs taking in the picturesque working harbors filled with the sounds of waves slapping against the boats and seagulls squawking up above or have some great fresh seafood just out of the salt water to your plate at one of many small friendly diners.
So if you ever get an opportunity to go to Maine or just get to the coast for some cool ocean breeze. Acadia National Park is a place to check out. It's a great place for all to relax and put your feet in the salty water and forget about the rat race for just a little while. Enjoy!
JORDAN POND HIKING TRAIL, ACADIA NATIONAL PARK
This is a nice afternoon hike from Jordan Pond to Northeast Harbor, Maine. The name of the hiking trail is the asticou trail and it comes out by the thuya gardens in Northeast Harbor, just a short walk from town. The gardens are free to the public, and the hiking trail passes through nice shaded woods for the most part, crossing over streams along the way.

THE BEEHIVE TRAIL in Under 2 Minutes - Acadia National Park
The Beehive Trail in Under 2 Minutes - Acadia National Park, Mt. Desert Island, Maine
The Beehive Trail (as it is called) is one of the best hikes in Acadia National Park. The Beehive Trail is rated as “Strenuous” and is approximately 0.8 miles/1.3 km long. Hiking is through woods to exposed cliffs. There are iron rungs on the ledges.
An exposed, iron rung climb not recommended for small children, for people with a fear of heights, or for anyone in wet weather. Good traction shoes are advised. This is a must do hike in Acadia National Park.

Acadia National Park - The Beehive
A hike to the top of the Beehive, a mountain (if you can call it that) in Acadia National Park in Maine. We did the Precipice Trail (Champlain Mountain) the day before, but totally forgot about the GoPro until this hike. Nick wore it and narrated along the way. Lots of treacherous ledges and ladders. Great fun!
During the upload, I accepted the option to have the video de-jiggled - it did come out a lot steadier, but it's just weird. Not sure I'll keep this one..,

Come along as we climb the Difficult Path up Acadia's Beehive Mountain. The iron-rungs look intimidating but this path is pure joy for those not suffering from acrophobia.
Acadia National Park - Beachcroft Trail to Champlain Mountain
It was a cool, windy day when I took this hike on Sept 16, 2011. There was a bit of a chill in the office but once on the trail the cool air was very refreshing.
The 2.4 mile hike is an out and back and starts off with a walk through the woods. Soon you come to a granite stone path. It is remarkable to think that all of these perfectly shaped stones, that are quite heavy, were placed here by the people that built the trail over 100 years ago.
The stone trail becomes steeper with stairs and switchbacks until you reach the plateau at the top of Huguenot Head. Although a good hike, it does not seem like you have climbed so high so fast. Already the scenery is breathtaking.
After a short walk through a valley you come to the second half of the ascent. At this point it becomes more of a rock scramble as you climb Champlain Mountain. After the initial steeper rock sections it becomes more of a climb up a smooth large section of granite until you reach the top of Champlain Mountain. At this point you are very glad you stuck with it. The vistas are amazing! The view over Frenchman Bay is beautiful.
The top of the mountain is also the place where you end up if you climb the Precipice Trail or the Bear Brook Trail. After enjoying the view, the descent down the trail is relatively easy, just a few steep areas to watch your footing. The entire hike took about three hours and that included an hour at the top. I definitely recommend this hike for anyone in average condition. I hope to do it again soon!
The trail is located 2 miles outside of Bar Harbor travelling toward Seal Harbor on Rte 3. The parking area is just beyond the Sieur de Monts entrance to Acadia National Park. The entrance to the trail is a little beyond the parking area and across the street.
The background music in the video is by John Haskell. John performs at the Bar Harbor Inn Reading Room Restaurant in season. See the following link for more information about the Bar Harbor Inn:

We took a trip up Maine to Acadia National Park for some Hiking and found some of the best hiking/climbs we have ever been on. Beehive is one of our favorites. It has to be one of the best climbs in the world. its a loop that features metal rungs burried into the rock faces and wooden bridges on the side of shear cliffs and is less than a mile long but changes about 500' in elevation. The entire video was shot on a GoPro Hero 3 camera. We also hit the world famous precipice trail stay tuned for that video!
