Basilica of Constantine (Konstantinbasilika or Aula Palatina) in Trier, Germany
This shows the inside, outside and a few details about the construction of the building known as the Basilica of Constantine a/k/a Aula Palatina (in German Konstantinbasilika) in Trier, Germany on July 27, 2019 during a Viking included tour of Trier. The building is notable because sources say it is the largest still surviving Roman building anywhere without any internal supports and is a UNESCO world heritage site. This is one large austere room measuring some 67 meters long, 26 meters wide and 33 meters tall. It was ordered constructed by Constantine the Roman Emperor in the early 4th century around 310 CE so it is really, really old. Unfortunately it suffered substantial damage during WWII (I'm really surprised anything in Germany survived the Allies bombing considering how many bombs they dropped and not all on industrial targets) and during the reconstruction all the interior decorations were not reconstructed and so the inside looks really, really austere. But, the building still standing without internal support after so long really is a testament to Roman engineering and construction.
The Lemonicks in Trier - Germany 4K Travel Channel
It was a great pleasure for us to spend some time with the Lemonicks in Trier. The Lemonicks, these are Nisha and Vasu, a charming couple from Mumbai, India. Just like us, they love to travel, to collect many beautiful memories. Nisha is a famous Indian travel blogger. In the meantime, Vasu, an avid photographer, has ended its corporate career and joined her. We met them the first time in Bangkok. When we heard that they will be in Europe the next months, we invited them to visit Ursula's hometown, Trier. We were very pleased that they found the time during their stay in Frankfurt.
Trier is the oldest town in Germany and looks back at a more than 2000-year story. The Romans have left remarkable traces in this town, especially after Constantine the Great moved his seat of government there.
We begin our tour on the Petrisberg, from where you have a wonderful panorama view of the city.
Particularly the Cathedral of Trier and Constantine Basilica, Constantine's former throne room, stand out. One also sees the Porta Nigra, the former city gate, the Trier Imperial Baths as well as the Roman amphitheater. All these buildings are on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites.
In southern direction is the Abby St. Matthias. It is said to be the burial place of the apostle Matthias.
After the first look, we go to the center of the city, but at the Main Market, it starts to rain. So we decide to make a tour of the churches of Trier.
We start in the Cathedral of Trier, which houses the Seamless Robe of Jesus and continue to the Church of Our Lady. As it is still raining, we got to the Constantine Basilica. The impressive interior is 27.2 m wide, 33 m high and 67 m long, with the entrance hall even 75. It is the largest still existing single room of the ancient world. Today, the Constantine Basilica serves as an evangelical church. In 2014, one provided the church with a new organ with 82 registers, over 6,000 pipes.

Places to see in ( Trier - Germany ) Aula Palatina
The so-called Basilika, Constantine's throne room, is the largest surviving single-room structure from Roman times. The Romans wanted the architecture to express the magnificence and might of the emperor. Unbelievable size: 27 m (90 ft) wide, 33 m (108 ft) high, and 67 m (220 ft) long - with an adjoining hall outside even 75 m (250 ft).
This depth is magnified by an optical illusion - both the windows of the apse as well as the niches underneath become progressively smaller towards the middle, thus enhancing the impression of length.
Later on, the archbishop used it as his administrative center and it was enlarged by three palace wings after 1614 (Rococo wing remodeled in 1761 by J. Seitz, sculptures by F. Tietz; today District Administration, see back cover). Since the middle of the 19th century, it has been used as the first and oldest Protestant church in Catholic Trier with a splendid organ answered by a seven-second echo.

Konstantin-Basilika

Weihnachtsmarkt Trier 2019 / A small video tour about the Trier Christmas market (17.12.2019) / HD
A small video tour over the Christmas market Trier on December 17, 2019.
The market was chosen as the most beautiful market in Germany in 2019 and is the 11th European comparison (2019).
The market is organized by the famous actor family Bruch in private hands - now 40 years. About 90 sales stands offer artistic art of all kinds, sweet delicacies and culinary delights. In Trier, the only “Glühwein“ queen resides - who wonders in a wine-growing region. The market is located from the medieval main market to the Dome freihof in front of the imposing scenery of St. Peter and the „Liebfrauenbasilika“ next door.

Cathedral of Trier, Germany
The High Cathedral of Saint Peter in Trier is the oldest cathedral in the country. The edifice is notable for its extremely long life span under multiple different eras each contributing some elements to its design, including the center of the main chapel being made of Roman brick laid under the direction of Saint Helen, resulting in a cathedral added onto gradually rather than rebuilt in different eras. Its dimensions, 112.5 m length by 41 m width, make it the largest church structure in Trier. In 1986 it was listed as part of the Roman Monuments, Cathedral of St. Peter and Church of Our Lady in Trier UNESCO World Heritage Site

Places to see in ( Trier - Germany ) Kurfurstliches Palais
The Electoral Palace directly next to the Basilika is considered one of the most beautiful rococo palaces in the world. Among many other facets, a princely staircase in the present seat of the District Administration (ADD) reveals the splendour of the Electors and Archbishops. In 1615, Elector Lothar von Metternich had the present north and east wings built; the west and south wings were constructed under Philipp Christoph von Soetern. The structure was finally finished by Carl Caspar von der Leyen.
The especially beautiful south wing, which can be admired from the Palace Garden, was commissioned by Archbishop Johann Philipp von Walderdorff in1756 and designed by Johannes Seiz. The sculptures were crafted by Ferdinand Tietz.
The magnificent rococo staircase in the south wing, also a creation by the artists Seiz and Tietz, is particularly worth seeing. On occasion, concerts are performed in the Grand Chamber of the rococo wing or summer open-air concerts in the courtyard.
