Krug Luncheon with Olivier Krug
If there was one wine that I would call the ultimate celebration wine it would have to Champagne and if money is no object the wine that I will be celebrating with is Vintage Krug Champagne. Krug is the ultimate collectors Champagne and although all of the wines at this famous house are at the pinnacle of quality, the vintage Champagne produced at this famous house is the most sought after in the world of collectible bubbly.
And any chance that I get to drink the wines of Champagne Krug I take it especially when we can break bread with one of the Krug family. This opportunity just came up and even though the day is on the biggest event of the year for us here at the store, our annual “Best Of 2014” tasting, we decided to host a luncheon with Olivier Krug at one of Fort Lauderdale’s biggest Champagnes fans homes.
This is a “Once in a Lifetime” event and we will be serving a four course lunch prepared by Wine Watch Caterings’ Toni Lampasone. The fee for this event is $250 + tax, for reservations and directions to the venue call 954-523-9463 or e-mail andy@winewatch.com.

Krug Champagne Offering
I have that same problem after a few glasses of Champagne. I am off on vacation and there is one thing for certain, I have a bottle of Krug with me. It is only the Grand Cuvee this year but I have always stated that this wine is just as good as any of the other wines from Krug. The other Champagne from Krug are outstanding as well, although I have never tasted the Clos d'Ambonnay, I have had all of the other cuvee's from Krug and we had a wonderful dinner with Oliver Krug in 2010 that featured all of the Champages from Krug (except the Ambonnay). What an incredibly memorable evening with Chef Mark Militello providing a fantastic meal at Trina restaurant on Fort Lauderdale Beach. I just happened to bring a bottle of 1966 Leroy Charmes Chambertin, which is Olivier's birth year by coincidence, I figured you have to get tired of drinking Krug at some point and that Olivier would appreciate an older burgundy. The wine was killer and we partied like rock stars on that night with two glasses of Krug in each hand!
The Grand Cuvee for me is even good with additional bottle age as I have sampled several older cuvee's of this wine and they have almost always been outstanding as it seems to age better than any other Champagne houses Multivintage blend. We have this wine in four different sizes on this offering as you know when I like a wine I get it in all sizes!!
Speaking of collectibles- Krug is one of the only Champagnes that appreciate with the older vintage offerings from Krug selling for big money at auction today. We have the 1996 vintage on this offering in Magnum format!! This is one of the ultimate collectibles in the world of Champagne and one of the most desirable format for this gem. We also have; the 1989 Vintage Collection, the Clos Du Mesnil and of course the Clos d'Ambonnay!

Episode 7, Champagne Journal, Krug and World War II
Krug was founded in 1843 by German born Johann-Josef Krug. It has always been a small firm with an international reputation for making some of the very best champagne… frequently called the connoisseur’s champagne. Krug is not open to the public, thus we are truly delighted to present you this interview with Rémi Krug, great-great-grandson of the founder. In this segment, he speaks about the proper way to open a champagne bottle, Krug’s connections to America, his family, and his outstanding champagnes.
For the French, WWII was the third war with Germany in less than 75 years. France had lost so many lives in WWI, that a month after the Nazi invasion, it surrendered and 1.5 million Frenchmen were made prisoners of war. France was divided into two regions, the northern two thirds were occupied by the Nazi’s and this included the Champagne region. The Third Reich wanted to seize the assets of France to pay for their war and this, of course, included champagne.
