Croatian Food Review - Trying Dishes with Truffles in Zagreb, Croatia Travel Food Video Transcript:
Hello there. Our first restaurant meal here. Let's make it happen in Zagreb.
So you were sold by a couple of items. What were they? Everything with truffles. Everything with truffles. Polenta with truffles. Pasta with truffles. Let's go in.
It is time for lunch here in Zagreb and we found a really cool restaurant like right around the corner from our Airbnb. This place I believe is called Fotic (Bistro Fotic) but I can't be sure because I can't seem to pronounce anything correctly in Croatian. Um, but anyways today we figured we would showcase some Croatian dishes and we're specifically going to be focussing on anything and everything with truffles. So I believe Sam you got risotto. Yes. I got polenta. And yeah truffles are going to be like the main thing.
We get our red wine. We get our dry reds before the meal even comes and I believe this is the Plavac or Plavac grape and this is the most common wine we've found here in Croatia and it is really good.
We got a nice bread basket that showed up. It is still warm. This must be complimentary. It is and it looks like homemade bread.
We ordered one little salad. Trying to get some fresh veggies and greens in our system. So yeah if you just take a look here this is just it is called the seasonal salad so I guess it varies by what time of the year it is and we are very much into the fall. Yeah, so we're getting tomatoes, we have a little bit of cabbage and onion, we have it looks like some iceberg lettuce and then over here yeah it looks like arugula as well.
The food is here and it looks amazing. So like I mentioned earlier I ended up getting the polenta which is really cool. They kind of cooked it in like a circular fashion and then sliced it and in between I have like this red cabbage and also he came to the table and he brought his little truffle and he actually like sliced it onto my meal.
Time to try your main the risotto. Before I even try it I've just got to talk about the procedure of this whole thing. It was plated at the table with a saucepan and then they came and did the whole truffle grating business. Then he added parmesan cheese.
Let's try that. I'm going to make sure I get a piece of truffle. I'm going to dig down deep so I get a bit of everything here. And you got the risotto with prosciutto, pine nuts and truffles.
It is time to choose our dessert and they actually have a display case with all of the cakes back there. We're just going to share one slice because that was a lot of food and the one that has caught our attention, for both of us, is called the Sevitina Torta which has custard, chocolate, hazelnut and nutella.
Time for price point. So that came to 236 Kuna which was 30 Euros in total. And basically 15 per person and that was for two glasses of red wine, a salad to share, two mains and a dessert to share. So pretty good value and my gosh the food was excellent here. We'd highly recommend this place.

Croatian Vlog | Go Grocery Shopping With Me
In today's video come along as I take you grocery shopping in Croatia.
See what it is like to go grocery shopping in Croatia! How different it is from what you're used to back home.
Also see my top 8 recommendations for what you should try from the grocery store.
I have been in Croatia for a little over a month now and to save money I cook most of my meals, witch means I have to go to the grocery store. Shopping in the grocery store can be a challenge in the smaller towns like the one in Korenica. This is a very meat and fish heavy country and you only get produce that is in season from most the local farms. It is very hard to find topical fruit and forget about avocados it's nearly impossible.
????Let me know in the comments if when you travel you like dicovering the local markets?

One day in Zagreb, Croatia I City centre walk
We were invited to Place of Creators awards in Zagreb, as we entered Top 50 creators by viewers choice. We used that opportunity to take quick walk around Zagreb city center.
We started at Kamenita vrata and climbed our way to Klovićevi dvori. On plateau Gradec you can find the most amazing view of city and Cathedral.
Walking around we ended up in front of St.Marko church, famous for it's coat of arms of Zagreb and Croatia, Dalmatia & Slavonia kingdom.
Very close to church is Mestrović museum, so we decided to visit it. His work is really impressive and museum is nicely organised.
Stroll down trough StrossMarte will get you to Tunnel Grič, just recently opened.
Crazy SciFi glasses & mirrors are from Illusion museum, which is fun break from all the walking.
We were lucky that Zagreb has the Best Christmas market in Europe, so there was so much activity after dark. We had time to visit main square, Zrinjevac & Tomislavac square (which also has Ice Park), but there is so much more to it.
Hope you enjoyed our 1 day Zagreb video, if you did, don't forget thumbs up :)

Zagreb Apartment Tour in Croatia
Come join us for an apartment tour in Zagreb, Croatia as we showcase our weeklong airbnb rental:
Our apartment:
AirBnB discount:
What loved about this place was first and foremost the location as we were right in the heart of the old town and secondly the courtyard with a friendly cat. Other pluses include a spacious livingroom, kitchen and bedroom but on the downside the apartment didn't have a washing machine which kind of sucked. Overall though for the price you pay we think this is a great value place to stay.

Zagreb Apartment Tour in Croatia Video Transcript:
Alright guys it is time for our Zagreb apartment tour. We have just come back from our last day of sightseeing. We are leaving tomorrow. This right here is our building.
Also I would like to mention there is a cat that lives in this courtyard. And this is what the apartment looks like from the outside. Okay. Let's go check it out. Going upstairs.
Turn on the light. And we are on the second floor right? First floor. Because the ground doesn't count. Ah, it is so nice we didn't have to carry our luggage all the way up. Like we have in the past.
Come on in. So here we are. Inside the apartment. Nice and cozy. This is the part where I admit we've been here a week and the place is an absolute mess.
And we are now ready for the apartment tour to commence.
So if you follow me this is our living area which is pretty spacious. I really enjoyed it. So we had a massive couch which was so nice for like lounging and watching a little bit of Netflix.
We had a TV that we didn't really use. And then our window looks out into the courtyard.
And then we had a little work desk that I did use but now it is just like storing our electronics. So yeah, that is kind of like the living area. Then if you follow me this way into the bedroom.
Nice big bed and we had a gazillion blankets in the closet. Oh yeah. Which was nice. Yeah, we've been actually using them. It has been getting chilly at night.
Okay moving on. The bathroom. Oh and in case we didn't let you guys know we have really high ceilings.
So it is a pretty good size bathroom I would say. So I'll just quickly show you guys the shower. That was the one thing the only liability of this place is it doesn't have a washing machine.
Sink and toilet. That is the bathroom for ya.
And the heating system in this apartment just so I can show you here. A radiator. This is actually how you turn it on. That is how you turn on both the hot water and the heating the central heating for the house.
Into the kitchen. Sam's office. This is where he hung out. Computer desk. We made tea here.
Um, yeah that is the kitchen really. There is microwave we didn't use. I did use the stove. I was making lots of pasta and polenta. Yep. Yeah, we ended up cooking here more than most other places. We made tonnes of pasta, salads.
And now let's talk about the price.
How much did this place cost? Money time. So this place cost 33 US dollars a night. Obviously if you stay for a week like us then you get a discount as well. And this place had a phenomenal location. Right in the heart of the Old Town. We were nearby several different grocery stores. We had great restaurant options. Both like kind of for fancy dining but also lots of bakeries. And we had a beautiful park just down the street. Yeah, I went jogging. I just felt right at home here. And you had a cat. A cat in the courtyard. It is like this place couldn't have been better. I'm going to miss the cat. I'm still going to try to arrange some tuna. A can of tuna for it. At night but um yeah that is getting a little off topic but anyways so yeah that is it for our time here in Zagreb, Croatia. Next up is Zadar. We are going to be heading back to the coast and then basically following the rest of our time in the Balkans. It is going to be along the coast so yeah. Alright, tata

Breakfast in Hvar, Croatia
Join us as we have breakfast in Hvar, Croatia at BB Club cafe ordering shakshuka, a fully loaded omelette and nutella pancakes with walnuts. Given it was the off-season in Hvar it was tricky to find a place that was open for breakfast. Although the menu didn't have traditional Croatian breakfast items we did enjoy what they served. The price was a bit high but we kind of expected that given we're on a island.

Breakfast in Hvar, Croatia Travel Food Video Transcript:
Good morning guys. We are currently in Hvar, Croatia and today we are searching for breakfast. It is already ten thirty and we're both really hungry so before we do any sightseeing we are going to go eat.
Alright a little bit of an ordeal this morning. At long last we are finally getting breakfast. This was mission impossible basically. So we are visiting Hvar first week of November off-season. Most people have already gone. Because it is cold and whatever so we've been walking around town I would say for almost an hour.
We were thinking of actually just going to a bakery. And doing a do it yourself breakfast at the harbor. That was going to be our plan. We were so close to doing that in fact. Then we found this place. It is called BB Club it is at the very end of the marina and there are some people out here. We're sitting out in the sun. We've just finished placing our order for breakfast. We're going to eat here. It is not going to be a typical Croatian breakfast because we haven't been able to find that whatever it is. This is a very International breakfast so you'll see once it arrives.
How are you feeling now that you have a cup of coffee in front of you. Oh, I was worried we weren't going to find a place that had breakfast so I'm very happy. And I get the regular the cappuccino. It seems to be what I get most of the time. My cappuccino of course. And you got a little cookie. It is shaped like a little horseshoe.
I ordered myself Shakshuka which I seem to have whenever I have the opportunity. So this is a Middle Eastern recipe. I first had it in Israel like 3 or 4 years ago. Anyways if you take a look here it is basically like these eggs cooked in like this iron cast. Is it? Um, with like a tomato based sauce. A cast iron frying pan.
What do you think? Shakshuka. Oh wow. Very flavorful also quite spicy too. I know. It has got a real kick to it. It does have a bit of a burn.
Alright moving on to my main so when they asked what kind of toppings we have I said give me everything. That is the chef's special. Everything. So if I show you in here you can see that there is different kinds of peppers, it looks like there is ham and it looks like there is some kind of a salami, onion, cheese. It is jacked. It is fully loaded. Just the way I like it. The jacked omelette. The jacked omelette.
I'm going to try the pancakes over here. Yeah. They come with nutella, chocolate and also with walnuts.
Nutella for the win right at the end. So after all of that saltiness you need a bit of sweet.
I keep calling these pancakes but they are more like crepes. Yeah. They're quite thin.
We just paid the bill. Sure did. So the breakfast came to 175 Kuna which is 23 Euros so that included 2 cappuccinos and 3 breakfast mains. And yeah, I mean it is not cheap we're paying tourist prices on a touristy island but it sure was good and we were just very appreciative to have actually found a place where we could have breakfast. Somewhere to eat at long last. Yeah, so we feel very satisfied and now we're ready to go explore. So we're going to do just that. Ciao.

Eating in Zagreb, Croatia
On the latest episode of Eating in.. Tiffany and Brendan visit the town of Zagreb, Croatia a city they have very limited time to explore. Eating in Zagreb turns out to be an even better experience than they really expected. As soon as they arrived in Zagreb they headed to the town square. Brendan filled his plate with a serious mixed grill. Tiffany went a little bit more modestly by ordering hamburger and chips. Brendan, as he seems to do in all the eating in videos, again drank more beer than he should, quicker than he should.
The two then found dessert at a place called The Cookie Factory which is famous among locals for having some of the best desserts not only in Zagreb but all of Croatia. Tiffany found herself confronted with a beautiful apple crumble, while Brendan ate a double chocolate cookie sandwich.
Craving a bit of sushi in Zagreb, they then went to grab some Japanese. Honestly though, the service was horrendous and the sushi was average at best. A bit of a miss.
Anyways, this has been Eating in Zagreb, be sure to visit Brendan and Tiffany online at their blogs and
Cheers, and happy eating!

Terroir Chocolate
AURI & Terroir Chocolate
Idea: While on their honeymoon, Kristin and Josh Mohagen honeymooned in Napa Valley, ready for an adventure in wine-tasting. What really piqued their tastebuds, though, were the exquisite products of chocolate makers they found in the valley and in San Francisco. Today, the Mohagens are creating artisan chocolate straight from Fergus Falls, Minnesota, with just two ingredients—cocoa beans from a plant whose scientific name “Theobroma Cacao” means “food of the gods,” and sugar.
AURI's role: Scientists helped with nutritional analysis necessary for labeling and provided product shelf-life assistance and scale-up assistance And now, another AURI scientist, Al Doering in Waseca, is helping the Mohagens develop a method for cracking their beans more efficiently.
Outcomes: The Mohagens’ got their facility set up in September 2014, and the business hit the ground running that November. Since the holiday season, marketing has been a major focus. Every weekend Josh and Kristin hit new retail locations and spend hours giving out samples and winning new customers. The business grew from 15 to 50 retail sites in three months, including food co-ops, gourmet food shops and coffee shops. The Mohagens foresee making Terroir Chocolate into a destination, as well as a place of production.
