HISTORIC SITES OF HAWAI‘I: THE HISTORY OF LĀNA‘I - Part 1
In late 2015 and mid 2016 the State of Hawai‘i Department of Education engaged in development of a film series to help inform students across the state about the history of Lāna‘i. In April 2017, the three part series, titles “Historic Sites of Hawai‘i — The History of Lāna‘i (Part 1); The History of Lāna‘i (Part 2)” and “Lāna‘i: Creating a Sustainable Island Community” was released. The film brings a depth of history not previously available in our classrooms to our island population, and shares a rich collection of traditions, history and modern experiences in the community, illustrated with interviews, maps, old photos and modern imagery. The Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center partnered with the DOE, producers and Pūlama Lāna‘i in development of this new series.

Learn About Lana'i at the Culture and Heritage Center
The culture and history in Lana’i is very interesting, and visitors can go to the Culture and Heritage Center in Lana’i city to see how the island’s history has transformed over the years. Once a massive pineapple-producing island, Lana’i now only grows plants as ornamental reminders of its past.

Lanai, Hawaii, The Lodge at Koele
The Lodge at Koele has been ranked among Americas top hotels, situated in the highland of Lanai Island, Hawaii. The cool, green surroundings offer peace and calm, along with various guest activities like horseback riding, archery, skeet, golf and fine dining. Built with a rustic style of wooden architecture, the Lodge will soon undergo renovation, but here we see it as it was some years ago.
Kahekili's leap conquered- Kaunolu, Lanai, Hawaii
Some friends and I took the quads down to Kaunolu and while we were there. My friends Kalil decided to jump Kahekili's Leap so I thought why not since we are there. So this is the video of my jump. The jump is 70ft+ and I really felt the landing. He landed nicely, I landed a little off. A little cliff jumping to make my day. (Warning) I did get hurt jumping this jump. I do not recommend people jumping it.

Lana'i History, Culture, and Outdoor Fun
Hawaiian Airlines makes it easy to travel between islands with its O'hana by Hawaiian flights. Host Ashley Colburn arrives in Lana'i with a Hawaiian Airlines flight attendant and local and finds there's lots to do on this tiny island.
For starters, there is not just one Four Seasons Resort on the smallest inhabited island in Hawaii—there are two! The Four Seasons Resort Lana’i, Manele Bay is placed almost directly on the beach, so there isn’t a bad view to be found, and the resort also offers golfing, a spa, and fabulous restaurants.
The Lodge at Koele is all about being in the country and relaxing in a lodge-type atmosphere. It still meets all expectations of a Four Seasons, but it has the added touch of horses and a bit more of a sporty feel. Clay shooting, horseback riding, and archery are all things you can find at the Lodge at Koele—and don’t worry, they have a spa at this property, too.
The culture and history in Lana’i is very interesting, and visitors can go to the Culture and Heritage Center in Lana’i city to see how the island’s history has transformed over the years. Once a massive pineapple-producing island, Lana’i now only grows plants as ornamental reminders of its past.
For some outdoor adventure, Ashley took a four-wheel drive excursion out to see the Garden of the Gods, or Keahiakawelo (“otherworldly rock garden”), as the Hawaiians call it. It’s quite a change in scenery when coming from the beach; it almost feels like being on the moon. It makes for a fun half-day expedition.
Last up was a little horseback ride and some shooting lessons with Lanai Western Adventures. At the Lodge at Kohele, visitors can take a fantastic ride through Lana’i’s countryside as well head up to the shooting range for some fun target practice. It’s a ton of fun, and a knowledgeable shooting instructor will work with you to make sure you are safe and having a great time.

Hulopo'e Bay Manele Bay (Lana'i) 10.26.13
Even tho flight time takes only 30 minutes to visit home. I feel like when we move away, we appreciate the beauty of this place. Went back home to remember and celebrate my Moms one year. I brought my GoPro and got some awesome footage of this place I went as a child over and over. This place is my favorite of all beaches I've been too. This is Hulopo'e bay or most of you know it as Manele bay. Located on Lanai's southern coast, Hulopo'e bay greets you with a stunning expanse of pearl-white sand and crystal blue waters. One of the highlights of Hulopo'e Bay is it's large tide pools. Be sure to take a 15-20 minute hike along the cliffs just southeast of the tide pools to view the Lanai landmark Puu Pehe (Sweetheart Rock). Legend says a heartbroken warrior jumped from this 80-foot summit, overcome with grief after his wife's passing. Hope you enjoy the video!! Hope it brings back memories.
