Legends of Lancaster - Rock Ford Plantation
Archived from 6/4/2019
Welcome back to “Legends of Lancaster,” sponsored by the Lancaster Barnstormers. This exclusive LancasterOnline video series goes in-depth into the lore and legends of Lancaster County. These mini-documentaries touch on everything from intriguing history, to colorful myths, to various tall tales that have been passed down through generations.
In this episode, videographer Tyler Huber explores the haunted history at Rock Ford Plantation. Rock Ford was the former home of revolutionary war general Edward Hand and his family.
Four members of the Hand family passed away in the home. John Hand, Edward’s son, tragically committed suicide there in 1807. Because of that fact, the house quickly became rumored as haunted. Huber talked with Rock Ford’s Sam Slaymaker to learn about the dark history of the home and to hear stories of the strangest things people have experienced there over the years.
Inside the Lancaster County Prison [Lancaster, PA]
Lancaster County Prison, built on high ground at the eastern edge of Lancaster, PA in 1851, was patterned on a castle in Lancashire, England. Builders designed its massive stone facade to assure the public that the bad guys could not escape. That prison could hold up to 160 men. A number of expansions, both outward to fill a city block and upward to seven stories, have been designed to house an ideal prison population of 1,029.

Legends of Lancaster - The Albatwitch
Originally uploaded to LancasterOnline.com on September 21, 2018.
In the first episode, videographer Tyler Huber takes a look at the elusive Albatwitch, Lancaster’s very own little Bigfoot.
Legend says this small, hairy creature would terrorize picnickers up at Chickies Rock in the 1800s by stealing their apples and pelting the cores back at them. Huber talked to researchers who have heard stories of sightings over the years and also talked with one man who encountered something very strange while driving off of Route 23 in 2002.
