Dent passed away in 1994, the organization he founded carried on under the leadership of his nephew, Peter C. Dent. LDVHI unveiled the completed statue on Sept. 10, 1999, before a worldwide audience. Milan: Leonardo da Vinci's Basin | Italia Slow Tour
The Porte Vinciane (Da Vinci's gates) are one of Da Vinci's places in Milan: a canal system that criss-crossed Milan, designed by Leonardo himself, in the past very important for communication and trade. Today, Da Vinci's gates represent a symbol for Milan, to demonstrate how much the city owes to the water and how the Navigli could be used for business, trade and leisure even nowadays.

USA: DA VINCI: BRONZE HORSE FINALLY COMPLETED
English/Nat
It was five hundred years in the making, but it's finally finished.
A massive bronze horse that the Italian renaissance genius, Leonardo da Vinci, envisioned but was unable to complete - has now been recreated in America, and put on display in New York.
Artists in the U-S were able to create the twenty-four foot high bronze sculpture because of drawings left by da Vinci.
Leonardo da Vinci's dream of creating a twenty-five foot high bronze horse has finally become a reality.
The Tallix foundry in Beacon, New York, will display the horse this weekend before dismantling it and shipping it to the Italian city of Milan, where it will be on permanent display.
Artists looked at sketches made by da Vinci to get an idea of what his horse might have looked like.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
This is not a recreation of his work. This is a tribute to him. And I've used the drawing as a basis for what I've done.
SUPER CAPTION: Nina Akamu, Artist of da Vinci horse
Da Vinci is said to have cried on his deathbed in 1519 AD because he was unable to complete the bronze statue.
Historians say the artist spent more than a decade planning the project.
The story goes that da Vinci was never able to realise his project because at that time Italy was at war with France.
Rather than use the bronze for the huge statue, the Italians melted it to make canon balls.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
Charlie Dent was our founder - he read an article in National Geographic entitled The Horse That Never Was, it was about a horse that Leonardo was commissioned to do but never completed. He read the article and out of all the people that read that same article he said why don't we try to let Leonardo have his horse.
SUPER CAPTION: Rodney Skidmore, artistic director of da Vinci horse
SOUNDBITE: (English)
We're very proud of what we've accomplished and I hope the Italians take it in the gesture in which it's given. And that is what Charlie wanted to do originally - was to give something back and return to the renaissance and to pay homage to Leonardo.
SUPER CAPTION: Rodney Skidmore, artistic director of da Vinci horse
French troops are said to have destroyed Leonardo's clay model of the horse.
Despite that, da Vinci's dream has finally been realised - 500 years late.

Leonardo Da Vinci Monumento Milán Italia
Our Visit to The statue of Leonardo da Vinci in Piazza della Scala, Milan Italy
The statue of Leonardo da Vinci is located in Piazza della Scala, prominently displayed in front of the international temple of bel canto. The monument offers a solemn and austere image of the scientist and at his feet are four of his pupils. The statue is made of white Carrara marble, whilst granite from Baveno was used for the base.
The idea of building a statue in honour of the Tuscan genius was initiated in 1856 by the Accademia di Belle Arti in Brera, which held a competition for a monument made of marble and bronze to be placed in the Palazzo in Brera. Two years later, after considering all the sketches received in the competition, the jury chose the one presented by the artist Pietro Magni. Subsequently it was decided to place the monument in Piazza della Scala, as renovation of the area that included the Galleria had just been completed, this solution seemed more appropriate to the importance of the character represented by the statue.
The history of the creation of the monument is intertwined with that of the new Italian State which, in 1860, declared that it wished to bear the costs of the execution of the project, requesting also the involvement of the municipality of Milan. However, economic resources were received only after a ten year legal dispute initiated by the sculptor. In 1872 the monument was inaugurated in the presence of King Vittorio Emanuele II at the Second National Exhibition.
