Voters Registration in Little Haiti, Miami 1 of 3
A nationwide voters registration and civil rights restoration kickoff was called by Senator Barack Obama on May 10, 2008.
As an answer to that call volunteers have been very active at the street of Miami in neighborhood such as Little Haiti and Liberty City, with a mixed population but the majority being black folks that have been disenfranchised in Florida, by revoking their civil rights after a conviction.
Florida is among a number of states that doesn't restore automatically the civil rights of convicted felons upon release, a measure that Obama is talking about going to pursue as part of his drive for chance in the Nation, but which will have to wait until he become the next president of the United States of America.
The presence of this volunteers of all races have been welcome by the citizens, that see this effort as a GOD sent help, since they are providing a vast of related voting services, such as: New voter registration, address change, name change, card replacement, signature update, among others. Particularly the civil rights restoration is a burdensome process to carry with the Florida authorities.

Miami, Florida - Miami Design District HD (2016)
The Design District, historically a part of Buena Vista, is a neighborhood within the city of Miami, Florida, United States, south of Lemon City (Little Haiti). It is roughly bound by North 36 St (US 27) to the south, North 43rd Street to the north, West First Avenue to the west and Biscayne Boulevard to the east.
The Design District was made up primarily of old low-rise warehouses that have been converted into retail spaces, art galleries, restaurants and cafés, but now includes a large amount of new construction, primarily for high-end retail. The Design District is in the crossroads of many prominent Miami neighborhoods, with the artsy Wynwood neighborhood to the south, Lemon City (Little Haiti) and the historic 1920s Buena Vista neighborhood to the north, and the wealthy Upper East Side neighborhoods to the east. After decades of falling to urban decay, the Design District has risen to fame as a destination for the arts, design, and fashion.
It is home to over 130 art galleries, showrooms, creative services, architecture firms, luxury fashion stores, antiques dealers, eateries and bars.

In the previous parts we drove down Florida's Turnpike from Orlando to Miami, drove around Miami Beach and now we are heading back through Little Haiti and Miami Shores. Take a drive with me to see how it looks there!
Little Haiti (French: La Petite Haïti), is a neighborhood of Miami, Florida, United States. It is known historically as Lemon City, Little River and Edison. It is home to many Haitian immigrant residents, as well as many residents from the rest of the Caribbean. The fastest growing group in the area is Hispanic.
Little Haiti is a well known neighborhood of Haitian exiles. The area is characterized by its French–Creole designations, with its street life, restaurants, art galleries, dance, music, theatre performances, family owned enterprises, and other cultural activities.
Steeped in the complex and rich cultural histories of the Afro-Caribbean immigrants who brought life to its area, Little Haiti has evolved into a colorful beacon in Miami’s arts communities. Throughout the years, small businesses like celebrated record stores, kitsch bars, and authentic eateries have eased into the neighborhood, creating their own particular patchwork within the already distinct Little Haiti.
The present Miami Shores roughly corresponds with the original Biscayne neighborhood of the City of Miami. With the arrival of the Great Depression, the City of Miami gave up its jurisdiction and the area incorporated under the name Miami Shores Village in 1932. Previously, part of the area that now comprises the City of North Miami had been known as Miami Shores.
Today, Miami Shores is primarily a bedroom community for those working in Greater Miami, and also has a sizeable retired population. The village is mostly single family residential, with very few multi-family units and only two small commercial areas along Northeast 2nd Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard.
While it is frequently referred to as Miami Shores or the Village of Miami Shores, the municipality's official name under its charter is Miami Shores Village.

LIBERTY SQUARE: Power, History, & Race in Miami
On January 29, 2015, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced that Liberty Square, one of the country’s oldest public housing developments would be “razed and redeveloped.” Built in 1937 during the New Deal and under Jim Crow, the development was the first segregated public housing in the United States, built to house black residents of Miami moving out of the crowded black community in downtown Miami know as Colored Town (now called Overtown).
In December of 2015, Dr. Moses Shumow, digital media faculty in the School of Communication and Journalism at Florida International University, was awarded a Restorative Narrative fellowship from the media nonprofit Images and Voices of Hope (ivoh), allowing him to produce a documentary film about the rich history and legacy of this community, as well as what its future might hold.
Haitians In Miami- A Future Unknown
The Ponthieux family has lived in Miami since the late 1990's. Their father, Rony is a nurse, while their two children go to school in Miami. In 2010, a massive earthquake hit Haiti, which allowed them to live in the United States under a protected status(TPS). The new administration decided to end that status on July, 2019 and they will be forced out of the country and back to Haiti. This is the Ponthieux's story and the story of all Haitians with TPS.

If you ever get to be in Miami AND would like to explore LATIN America (and I'm talking about USA here) feel free to visit Little Havana, La Pequeña Habana in Spanish, located just west of Downtown Miami.
Great ppl, always warm and friendly, lots of Cuban cuisine, delicious as well, a place where you can learn that you can easily have a different culture (more or less different), language maybe, maybe some different foods, music might be different (but very warm), dancing as well, but THAT does not make them less American, that's the beauty of America: THE BEST MELTING POT IN THE WORLD.
YES, a lot of politics within this very hot subject, everybody knows that most of non-Cuban Hispanics do not like Cubans, mostly b/c of this very rule:
But those that hate Cuban-Americans always forget (or rather try not to acknowledge) the political system in Cuba for the past 50+ years, a country with NO POLITICAL FREEDOMS OF ANY KIND, where the CASTRO COMMUNIST GANG has been killing or at least imprisoning everybody who disagrees with their extreme views (yes I know, Sean Penn, Michael Moore, Harry Belafonte and lots of other left-wing loons would strongly disagree with me), so that's in Cuba ONLY, no such lack of political freedoms anywhere else in Central or South America, Mexico, Haiti or Dominican Republic included, personally I am strongly AGAINST lifting the Embargo until the good ppl of Cuba start enjoying the very same FREEDOMS we in the West have been doing for so many decades AND, sadly, take them for granted now.
Most of the Cuban-Americans vote Republican.
Some of my favorite Cuban-American politicians: Ted Cruz (he's in fact Cuban-Canadian-American), Marco Rubio, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Mario Diaz-Balart, just to name a few only.

Driving through Impoverished North Miami, Florida
North Miami is a suburban city located in northeast Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, about 10 miles (16 km) north of Miami. The city lies on Biscayne Bay and hosts the Biscayne Bay Campus of Florida International University, and the North Miami campus of Johnson & Wales University.
