Minnesota: Minneapolis
Minneapolis and Saint Paul anchor the second-largest economic center in the Midwest, after Chicago.
Minneapolis lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the river's confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Saint Paul, the state's capital. The city is abundantly rich in water, with thirteen lakes, wetlands, the Mississippi River, creeks and waterfalls, many connected by parkways in the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway. It was once the world's flour milling capital and a hub for timber.
The city and surrounding region is the primary business center between Chicago and Seattle, with Minneapolis proper containing America's fifth-highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies.
The city served as the launching pad for several of the 20th century's most influential musicians, including Bob Dylan and Prince.
The Minneapolis Institute of Art, designed by McKim, Mead & White in 1915 in south central Minneapolis, is the largest art museum in the city, with 100,000 pieces in its permanent collection.
Site of the 53-foot (16 m) Minnehaha Falls, Minnehaha Park is one of the city's oldest and most popular parks, receiving over 500,000 visitors each year.
The Como Park Zoo and Marjorie McNeely Conservatory include a zoo, a conservatory, an amusement park, a carousel, Lake Como, a golf course, a pool and more. It's a free park and while no admission fee is charged for the zoo or conservatory, voluntary donations of $3 per adult and $2 child are suggested.
Ford Dam, officially known as Lock and Dam No. 1 is on the Upper Mississippi River and is located between Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota just north of the confluence of the Mississippi with the Minnesota River at Mississippi River mile 847.9, in Minneapolis.
The Minnesota State Capitol houses the Minnesota Senate, Minnesota House of Representatives, the office of the Attorney General and the office of the Governor. The building also includes a chamber for the Minnesota Supreme Court, although court activities usually take place in the neighboring Minnesota Judicial Center. On the day we went there, the Capitol was under construction and was not open to the public.
The Cathedral of Saint Paul is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the city of St. Paul, Minnesota.
One of the most distinctive cathedrals in the United States, it sits on Cathedral Hill overlooking downtown St. Paul and features a distinctive copper-clad dome. It is the third largest completed church in the United States, and the fourth tallest. It is dedicated to Paul the Apostle, who is also the namesake of the City of St. Paul.
On March 25, 2009, it was designated as the National Shrine of the Apostle Paul by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Vatican.

WWE taped this week's Smackdown tonight from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Below are full results:
Smackdown (Airing Friday on SyFy):
* The show opens with footage of Christian winning the World Heavyweight Championship by disqualification against Randy Orton at WWE Money in the Bank.
* Randy Orton comes out and cuts a promo about his title loss. He talks about Vince McMahon being forced out and replaced by Triple H. Orton calls out Christian. Christian comes out and stands at the top of the ramp. Christian taunts Orton about spitting on him but Orton just wants a shot to win his title back. Finally he goes after Christian at the top of the ramp. Teddy Long reminds Orton he is already booked in a street fight tonight against Kane. He announces World Heavyweight Champion Christian vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson (even though Jackson was advertised to defend the title against Cody Rhodes)
* World Heavyweight Champion Christian b. WWE Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson after hitting the Kill Switch.
Michael Cole interviewed Smackdown Money in the Bank winner Daniel Bryan. Cole continued his heel character by calling Bryan's victory a fluke and said Bryan will take the easy way out and cash in on the champion when he is down. Bryan said he's not cashing in until Wrestlemania XXVIII.
* Daniel Bryan b. Heath Slater via submission in the LeBell Lock.
* Backstage, Mark Henry tells Matt Striker he doesn't regret taking out Big Show at the pay-per-view.
* Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett ended in a double count out. After the match ended, Sheamus hit Barrett with a Brogue Kick.
* A Cody Rhodes vignette is shown followed by a promo by Kane.
* Randy Orton vs. Kane in a street fight. There were chants for both men. The guy behind me let us all know Kane's real name. The announce table appeared to tip over accidentally during a brawl on the floor. Orton held his right thigh on and off from that point on. Kane went for a choke, but took an RKO. Kane surprised everyone by kicking out. Randy went for the punt, but Kane chokeslammed him for a good near fall.
Kane hit Orton with several chair shots. Orton avoided a Tombstone and chokeslam, and RKO'd Kane for the win. Good match. They shook hands afterward.
Mark Henry came out after Orton left and roughed up Kane. Henry wrapped a chair around Kane's leg and came down on it off the ropes. The announcers were long gone by this point, but the cameras were still rolling.
Christian cut a promo before the dark main event. Orton's music cut him off.
1. Christian beat Randy Orton in the dark match. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase interfered. Orton hit RKO's afterward.

MNSUPA Mississippi Lock Demo
This is a stand up paddle board demo by Minnesota Stand Up Paddleboarders Association for the US Army Corps of Engineers on 9-6-2012. Stand up paddle boards are currently not permitted in the locks on the Mississippi river from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. We received permission from the US Army Corps to come into the lock at St. Anthony Falls in Minneapolis, MN to show the stability of a stand up paddle board in a lock. We had a great response from everyone who attended the meeting. This included not only the US Army Corps of Engineers, but also, the US Coast Guard and the MnDNR. Thank you all for allowing MNSUPA to demonstrate the capability of a stand up paddle board. Thank you for your time, your thoughts and your considerations. Sorry for the quality of the video. I was 90% of boat traffic entering a lock for the first time in my life. So I was demonstrating stability while shooting video and taking pictures. My camera stability is not as good as my board stability.

US News - Why is it so cold right now in a warmer world?
Why is it so cold right now in a warmer world?WASHINGTON -- Anchorage, Alaska, was warmer Tuesday than Jacksonville, Florida. The weather in the U.S. is that upside down. That's because the Arctic's deeply frigid weather escaped its regular atmospheric jail that traps the worst cold. It then meandered south to the central and eastern United States. And this has been happening more often in recent times, scientists say. Super cold air is normally locked up in the Arctic in the polar vortex, which is a gigantic circular weather pattern around the North Pole. A strong polar vortex keeps that cold air hemmed in. Then when it weakens, it causes like a dam to burst, and the cold air heads south, said Judah Cohen, a winter storm expert for Atmospheric Environmental Research, a commercial firm outside Boston. This is not record-breaking for Canada or Alaska or northern Siberia, it's just misplaced, said Cohen, who had forecast a colder than normal winter for much of the U.S. Is this unusual?Yes, but more for how long -- about 10 days --the cold has lasted, than how cold it has been. On Tuesday, Boston tied its seven-day record for the most consecutive days at or below 20 degrees that was set exactly 100 years ago. More than 1,600 daily records for cold were tied or broken in the last week of December, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). For Greg Carbin of the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center, the most meaningful statistics are how last week's average temperature was the second coldest in more than a century of record-keeping for Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit and Kansas City, third coldest in Pittsburgh and fifth coldest in New York City. Global warming and cold weatherWhile the United States has been in the deep freeze, the rest of the globe has been . The globe as a whole was 0.9 degrees warmer than normal Tuesday and the Arctic was more than 6 degrees warmer than normal, according to the University of Maine Climate Change Institute's analysis.
If you look at the temperature map for the climate as a whole right now, the entire rest of the planet is warmer than the historical average with the exception of the Eastern United States and Canada, and the last three years -- 2014, 2015 and 2016 -- have been consecutively the warmest years on record, atmospheric scientist and Columbia University professor Adam Sobellast week. What's next?A brutal winter storm dumped snow, sleet and freezing rain from normally balmy Florida up the Southeast seaboard Wednesday, delivering a white coating that some cities hadn't seen in decades. Cars spun out of control on icy overpasses from Texas to Georgia. Forecasters warned that conditions could worsen, especially in the Northeast. In the southern U.S., a wind chill advisory was in effect Wednesday from Orlando down to Boca Raton as a bomb cyclone storm was expected to swirl up the East Coast, said CBS News weather producer David Parkinson. He said when a

Spring Flooding, Mississippi River Saint Paul, MN
Shot mid morning on April 4th this year. Temps in the 40's with brisk cold winds. The river had crested and passed flood stage by a few feet.
No where near as bad as the record flood of 1965 when all the area shown between the river and downtown was under water to the top of the light posts in the background.

MNSUPA Mississippi Lock Demo End
This is the end of the stand up paddle board demo for the US Army Corp of Engineers on 9-6-2012. This demonstration was to show that a stand up paddle board has the stability to pass through the locks on the Mississippi river. Stand up paddle boards are currently prohibited from entering the locks on their own. Hopefully, we have demonstrated that the process of locking through on a stand up paddle board can be done safely. It was a great experience for us, since it was the first time I have ever entered a lock. My hope is that in the near future stand up paddle boarders will be able to lock through from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico.
