Bleached-White American Flags Appear Atop Brooklyn Bridge
Police say they're looking for a group of four to five people in connection with the mysterious appearance of two white flags atop the Brooklyn Bridge.
They were found fluttering early Tuesday from poles perched on the stone supports where two American flags are normally positioned. Police removed both white flags before noon.
Deputy Commissioner John Miller said in a news conference that security video shows a group of people crossing the bridge overnight. Police want to talk to them as part of their investigation.
We don't take these things lightly, or as a joke, or as art or within the realm of speech, John Miller said.

You know, they had hydraulic walls that would just come out like 007 with millions of dollars. We would have a room full of money. $1-$2 million sitting in the room, you know, for us to grab at our expense and that was usual. They had workers that worked there, you know, eight-hour shifts, three shifts per day just counting money and they would count maybe a million dollars in a couple hours and run it through the machines. And we're talking, you know, fives and tens and ones, we're talking street money. Now did we benefit from it? Did we live a good life? Yes, of course, we did. We were spoiled, we ate well, we traveled, we would sometimes want to stay on vacation for a month on the beach and just live life to its fullest but at the end of the day we wanted to denounce that life and we knew what mattered to us was love and family and simplicity.

One man doesn't want anyone to know he's a new millionaire.
He won the Super Lotto in Jamaica and wore a mask, from the horror movie Scream to claim his $158.4 million check ($1.17 million US) prize.
The man, who simply identified himself as A. Campbell, waited 54 days to claim the ticket.
Lottery winners wearing masks to claim their prize has become a trend. Past Jamaican Super Lotto winners have worn emoji and animal masks.

Cyntoia Brown, who served 15 years of a life sentence for killing a man when she was 16, has been released from a Nashville prison, Tennessee officials announced early Wednesday.
Earlier this year, then-Gov. Bill Haslam took the unusual step of granting Brown clemency for what he called a tragic and complex case, a major victory for Brown and her supporters, who for years have maintained that the 2004 killing was an act of self-defense.

The Empire State Building is a 102-story Art Deco skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It was designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon and completed in 1931. The building has a roof height of 1,250 feet (380 m) and stands a total of 1,454 feet (443.2 m) tall, including its antenna. Its name is derived from Empire State, the nickname of New York, which is of unknown origin. As of 2019, the building is the second-tallest building in New York City, the sixth-tallest completed skyscraper in the United States, and the 45th-tallest in the world. It is also the sixth-tallest freestanding structure in the Americas. The Empire State Building stood as the world's tallest building for nearly 40 years until the completion of the World Trade Center's North Tower in Lower Manhattan in late-1970. Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, it was again the tallest building in New York City until the new One World Trade Center surpassed it while under construction in April 2012.
The site of the Empire State Building, located in Midtown South on the west side of Fifth Avenue between West 33rd and 34th Streets, was originally part of an early 18th-century farm, then became the site of the Waldorf–Astoria Hotel in 1893. In 1929, Empire State Inc. acquired the site and devised plans for a skyscraper there. The design for the Empire State Building was changed fifteen times until it was ensured to be the world's tallest building. Construction started on March 17, 1930, and the building opened thirteen and a half months afterward on May 1, 1931. Despite the publicity surrounding the building's construction, its owners failed to make a profit until the early 1950s. However, since its opening, the building's Art Deco architecture and open-air observation deck has made it a popular attraction, with around 4 million tourists from around the world visiting the building's 86th and 102nd floor observatories every year.The building stands within a mile of other major Midtown tourist attractions including Grand Central Terminal, Pennsylvania Station, Madison Square Garden, Koreatown, and Macy's Herald Square.
The Empire State Building is an American cultural icon and has been featured in more than 250 TV shows and movies since the film King Kong was released in 1933. A symbol of New York City, the tower has been named as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The Empire State Building and its ground-floor interior have been designated as a city landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, and were confirmed as such by the New York City Board of Estimate. It was also designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986, and was ranked number one on the American Institute of Architects' List of America's Favorite Architecture in 2007.

A sceptical look at claims made by 'truther' protestors at ground zero in September 2012 from the viewpoint of a chemist. For those of you who don’t know, a ‘truther’ is a person affiliated with the 9/11 Truth movement, who rejects the official explanation provided for the 9/11 attacks and instead claims that a US government conspiracy was to blame. The videos in this series cover everything from the alleged thermite found in the dust to the collapse of #WorldTradeCentre 7. The videos debunk every claim made by the truthers by looking at the scientific literature and studying real video evidence of the attacks.
