At 7,200 ft., the old Mount Fremont fire lookout is the highest remaining lookout in Mount Rainier National Park. It was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933 and is part of the Mount Rainier Historic District.

2012 - Mount Rainier National Park, Washington, USA
After visiting Mount Saint Helen's, I traveled north to Mount Rainier National Park in Washington state and spent two days hiking the base of the mountain at the foot of the glacier. Days prior, a nice couple told me of a lake that had the reflection of the mountain in the background. Although the park rangers told me that the trails leading to the lake was buried by snow and in some cases 10 feet of snow, I decided to do the hike anyways to see if I could reach Mirror Lake. After much hiking and a long day of vertical climbing, I finally reached my destination. Wow, it was worth it...I loved this park and will surely visit it once again...

High Rock Lookout - Mountain Rainier - Washington Hiking 4k
High Rock Lookout trail is located in Ashford, WA just outside of the Nisqually -Southwest Entrance to Mountain Rainier National Park. It is easy to get to in a low clearance vehicle although in winter time the road gets snowed in and isn't accessible until early spring. The hike is 3.2 miles round trip with 1365 ft gain reaching the highest point of 5685 ft. In such a short distance you are offered up close views of Mount Rainier and a historic lookout that you are able to access and use as shelter against the elements.

Lookout Mountain Lookout
October 5, 2014. Skagit County Washington. There's more than one Lookout Mountain, this is the one near Marblemount. To get to the trailhead, drive the North Cascades Highway WA SR 20 into the east side of Marblemount, then turn off on Cascade River Road over the Skagit on a suspension bridge and find the trailhead 7 miles from there.
This great but challenging hike leading to a historic lookout is right on the edge of the North Cascades National Park; this same trailhead leads to Monogram Lake within the park.
I was fortunate enough to have my friend Devon along, who is experienced in identifying edible pine mushrooms (matsutake).
Eventually after almost 5 miles and 4500 feet of elevation gain, we made it to the lookout, with its spectacular view.

Road to Paradise, Mount Rainier National Park
Paradise, Washington is the most heavily visited area in Mount Rainier National Park. Excellent long and short hikes begin here. It is 5,400 feet up the south slope of Mount Rainier and one of the snowiest places on earth. I drove to Paradise on June 6, 2012, the road from the Nisqually park entrance was clear of snow and the scenery was awesome. Road conditions in the park may be checked at the national park service website:
