The world’s largest furniture manufacturer is now in business in Ybor City.
Ashley Furniture officially opened a new e-commerce center Tuesday morning in the Centro Ybor complex. The center will employ 200 people, and company officials said it will attract customers and boost business for local restaurants and hotels.
Gov. Rick Scott, Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Ron Wanek, the founder and chairman of Ashley Furniture, were among those who attended an official opening ceremony.
“By cutting tax and reducing regulation, by making sure that businesses are more successful, you can create all these jobs,” Scott said.
The state, Hillsborough County and the city of Tampa contributed incentives to make the deal happen.
The company will receive $320,000 in incentives through the state’s Qualified Target Industries program. The company is required to offer a minimum average salary of $48,813 to qualify for the funding.
The 78,000-square-foot space, which Ashley spent millions of dollars to renovate, replaces half of the Muvico movie theater — or 10 of the 20 screens once operated.
It’s located off Seventh Avenue, in the heart of the Ybor City Historic District.
