ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO VLOG
3 days, 3 nights in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.
Crossing off the last state in the American Southwest off my bucket list and finding unexpected beauty along the way. Here are some of my highlights:
WHAT TO EAT-
Tia Betty Blue's
A New Mexican restaurant with a modern twist. Huge portions too! For the savory palate, get the smothered burrito with red chile sauce. For the sweet palate, get the blue corn waffles with house made lavender whipped cream. Their matcha green tea latte isn't too shabby either.
Mary and Tito's
Another no-frills New Mexican style diner. The beef and cheese burrito smothered with red chile sauce is simple, but great. The spiciness between red or green chile depends on the day, so rather than asking what chile you should get, ask which chile is spicier that day.
WHAT TO DRINK-
Ten 3
Located on the top of the Sandia Mountains accessible by their tram, come here for their drinks. They do hot toddies as well as craft cocktails.
LVL 5
Located in the sleek and modern Hotel Chaco, you get a wonderful panoramic view of the Sandia Mountains and Albuquerque skyline from the fifth floor. Their Sandia sunset cocktail (tequila, watermelon syrup, and orange juice) parallels the colors of the Sandia mountains Sandia is the Spanish word for watermelon, named after the color of the mountains at sunset.
Founders Speakeasy
Located inside the liquor store through the employees only entrance. It's a homey but cool underground speakeasy bar with a modest menu, but the bartenders can also make customized drinks depending on your preferences.
WHAT TO SEE-
Sandia Mountains
Round trip tickets on the tram to the top of the mountains are $25. The views of the city from the top of the mountain is truly stunning. Keep in mind that the temperatures and winds can be a lot chillier at the peak than in the city, so layer up.
WHAT TO DO-
New Mexico Escape Room
Not to be missed. Yes, there are escape rooms everywhere but this one has one USA Today's Top 10 escape rooms in the country. It is difficult but truly immersive and next level. So fun we went back twice. We did the Duel at Dusk and Bombshell. Of the two, Bombshell was more immersive but also more difficult.
Is New Mexico on your list?

Escape room directory for Albuquerque -
Looking for something to do in Alabama? Try a live escape room! Imagine, you are locked in a room, you have 60 minutes to escape, and only your wits and determination will help you to escape!
There are many live escape rooms in Albuquerque to choose from, and one is waiting for you.
About Escape Rooms
An escape room is a physical adventure game in which players are locked in a room and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles and escape within a set time limit. The games are physical versions of escape the room video games. Games are set in a variety of fictional locations, such as prison cells, dungeons and space stations, and are popular as team building exercises.
The earliest room was created in 2006, and escape rooms became popular in the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Canada and mainland China in the 2010s. Permanent escape rooms in fixed locations were first opened in Asia and followed later in North America, Europe, Australia, and South America. Notable organisers include AdventureRooms, ClueQuest, The Escape Hunt Experience, ClueJob, and Puzzle Break.
The earliest escape room, Origin, was created in Silicon Valley by a group of system programmers in 2006. The mysteries and challenges in the game were inspired by the works of Agatha Christie and became a popular tourist attraction.
Real Escape Game (REG) in Japan was developed by 35-year-old Takao Kato, of the Kyoto publishing company, SCRAP Co., in 2008. It is based in Kyoto, Japan and produces a free magazine by the same name. Beyond Japan, escape games appeared in Singapore from 2011. Escape games in Singapore expanded quickly with over 50 games by 2015.
In 2015, there were over 2,800 escape room venues worldwide. These are particularly lucrative for the operators, as the upfront investment can be as low as $7000 USD, while a party of 4-8 customers pay around $25-30 USD per person for one hour to solve a room puzzle, being able to generate annual revenue in the range of several hundred thousands.
A 2015 American Science Channel television game show Race to Escape is based on this theme.

City and CNM accept the 2019 First Place CommunityWINS® Grant Award - October 15th, 2019
Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller and Central New Mexico Community College Win National Recognition for Innovative Film School Project at the Rail Yards
The United States Conference of Mayors and Wells Fargo award $300,000 grant at CommunityWINS® Ceremony, funding to be matched by State Legislature
ALBUQUERQUE, NM—Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller and Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) came together today to accept the 2019 First Place CommunityWINS® Grant Award, presented by the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) and Wells Fargo. The $300,000 grant will support CNM’s Film Production Center of Excellence at the Albuquerque Rail Yards. Launched in 2015, the nationwide CommunityWINS® (Working/Investing in Neighborhood Stabilization) program recognizes nonprofits and cities that drive neighborhood stabilization, economic development and job creation. It will be matched by an additional $300,000 from the New Mexico State Legislature.
“It’s an honor for Albuquerque to win first place out of over one hundred other cities for a national grant to support our local efforts to revitalize the historic Rail Yards in the heart of our city,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This funding, and matching funds from the state legislature, will further our efforts to partner with CNM to bring their film school here to the site as an anchor tenant. Reinventing the Rail Yards is a key to driving job creation and growing our local economy. We are working in collaboration with the surrounding neighborhoods to ensure that the redevelopment empowers our local communities and that the site serves as a place for people to gather for all kinds of community events.”
Funded in collaboration with USCM and the Wells Fargo Foundation, the CommunityWINS® grant will be used for an innovative effort to revitalize the historic Rail Yards building in support of the state’s growing film industry and local economic development. The future CNM Film Production Center of Excellence aims to expand its film production program and continue to train the workforce for the film industry. More than 200 major productions have filmed in New Mexico since 2003.
“The Conference and Wells Fargo share similar values focused on helping communities across the country succeed and the 2019 CommunityWINS® Grant Program is an opportunity to honor productive neighborhood revitalization efforts that are making a difference,” said Tom Cochran, CEO and executive director of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. “We appreciate Wells Fargo and the Wells Fargo Foundation for their support of the CommunityWINS® Program, which also highlights the leadership of mayors and city governments.”
The 2019 CommunityWINS® awards include monetary grants to city-based nonprofit organizations and recognize mayors for exemplary leadership in developing local programs that promote long-term economic prosperity and improve the quality of life for residents in three categories: neighborhood stabilization, economic development, and job creation. An independent panel of judges, selected by USCM, determined the eight winning cities from a pool of 139 applicants in three population groups - small, medium, large and metropolitan. The Film Production Center Excellence at the Rail Yards, managed by CNM, was among those chosen for funding.
“CNM is honored to be part of such an inspiring team effort with Mayor Keller and Wells Fargo to help revitalize downtown by locating CNM’s Film Production Center of Excellence at the historic Rail Yards,” said CNM President Katharine Winograd. “CNM has been producing skilled film technicians to support our state’s film industry for 15 years, and we’re very excited about this grant helping us to expand our capacity to meet the growing demand for these skilled professionals. We’re looking forward to providing more community members with the training opportunities they need to secure quality employment while contributing to economic development in downtown Albuquerque.”
“Wells Fargo is pleased to team with the U.S. Conference of Mayors to support neighborhood revitalization efforts,” said David Hockmuth, Region Bank President. “The work being done by CNM Film Production Center of Excellence to fund the efforts to revitalize historic Rail Yards building embodies the spirit of what our CommunityWINS® grant program collaboration is all about. We applaud Mayor Keller and CNM for their vision and passion to empower their communities.”
In June, Wells Fargo announced an evolution of its philanthropic strategy and that it would commit $1 billion in philanthropy by 2025 to address the U.S. housing affordability crisis by working with community partners, non-profits and policymakers to develop new housing affordability solutions.

ROSWELL INCIDENT 509th, COLONEL PAUL CHENCHAR 01-26-15 at: 1005pm
[01-27-2015 at: 12:31a.m.c.s.t.]
This a telephone interview I did with Colonel Paul Chenchar, who was stationed at the 509th Atomic Bomb wing located at Roswell New Mexico, circa 1947.. Paul describes a trip he and [now, since passed away] General Woodrow P. Swancutt, took to Kirtland AAF, Albuquerque New Mexico where at, and while on the tarmac Swancutt's crew saw and reported seeing 3 flying saucer / UFOs coming in from the North and did a quick, fast turn to the east and disappeared, but not before one of Swancutt's crew called the tower, with subsequent affirmation from the tower that, Yes they had been watching them on the glasses. [binoculars].
Swancutt's crew flew the historic mission at Operation Crossroads, July 1, 1946, one year before the, now famous, or infamous whatever the case maybe, Roswell Incident, where they, i.e., the Army Air Force dropped the first US of A's peacetime atomic bomb, named ABLE / GILDA, after Rita Hayworth's movie Gilda.
Their B29 for the drop was named Dave's Dream, serial number 44-27354, and was also part of the Hiroshima, August 6,1945 mission. By coincidence, do you believe in coincidence?, Dave's Dream was the B29 that flew the now famous trip to Ft. Worth Texas to deliver the flying saucer debris, with Major Jesse Marcel, AAF head of intelligence on board.
GILDA:
Birth: Jan. 14, 1919
Rock Springs
Sweetwater County
Wyoming, USA
Death: Nov. 3, 2000
Cheyenne
Laramie County
Wyoming, USA
Col. Paul Chenchar Jr., 81, of Cheyenne died Nov. 3 in Cheyenne.
He was born Jan. 14, 1919, in Rock Springs and had lived here since 1972.
Mr. Chenchar was a navigator in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years. He retired in 1972.
Woodrow Paul Swancutt (July 4, 1915 – March 21, 1993) was a Major General in the United States Air Force.
Biography
Swancutt was born on July 4, 1915 in Edgar, Wisconsin.[1] He would graduate from La Crosse Central High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1933 and attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he was a member of the Wisconsin Badgers boxing team and was a national champion in 1939 and 1940.
B-29 Superfortress - Operation Crossroads (1946)
DAVE'S DREAM:
Sprouse said that upon their return, five of his crew were sent out to the Foster Ranch or Brazel debris field to assist in the cleanup, which involved 500 men lined shoulder to shoulder scouring the ground for debris. However, he was ordered to remain with Dave's Dream in case it was needed. (Note: Dave's Dream flew intelligence officer Major Jesse Marcel to Fort Worth with debris on the afternoon of July 8. Sprouse, however, wasn't part of the crew.)
Sincerely Terry Arbegust
