New York City 2019 (4K)
A video recorded entirely on iPhone documenting various parts of NYC as they are in 2019. This was supposed to be 60fps but no matter what I did I couldn't get the software to output the final file in 60fps, it appears to have been capped at 30 or 25 fps.
Here's where New York City's sewage really goes
New York City is home to 8.4 million waste-producing people; that's a lot of toilets, drains, and sewers. It takes 14 wastewater treatment facilities scattered throughout the five boroughs to clean up all of our dirty water.
We visited the largest facility, the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to see how the water is treated. It's a dirty job that surprisingly smells great.

Aerobic Exercise:
Aerobic exercise (also known as cardio) is physical exercise of low to high intensity that depends primarily on the aerobic energy-generating process.[1] Aerobic literally means relating to, involving, or requiring free oxygen,[2] and refers to the use of oxygen to adequately meet energy demands during exercise via aerobic metabolism.[3] Generally, light-to-moderate intensity activities that are sufficiently supported by aerobic metabolism can be performed for extended periods of time.[1]
When practiced in this way, examples of cardiovascular/aerobic exercise are medium to long distance running/jogging, swimming, cycling, and walking, according to the first extensive research on aerobic exercise, conducted in the 1960s on over 5,000 U.S. Air Force personnel by Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper.[4][5]
Aerobic exercise and fitness can be contrasted with anaerobic exercise, of which strength training and short-distance running are the most salient examples. The two types of exercise differ by the duration and intensity of muscular contractions involved, as well as by how energy is generated within the muscle.[6]
New research on the endocrine functions of contracting muscles has shown that both aerobic and anaerobic exercise promote the secretion of myokines, with attendant benefits including growth of new tissue, tissue repair, and various anti-inflammatory functions, which in turn reduce the risk of developing various inflammatory diseases. Myokine secretion in turn is dependent on the amount of muscle contracted, and the duration and intensity of contraction. As such, both types of exercise produce endocrine benefits.[7]....
Cardiovascular Fitness:
Cardiovascular fitness is the ability of the heart, blood cells and lungs to supply oxygen-rich blood to the working muscle tissues and the ability of the muscles to use oxygen to produce energy for movement.[1] This type of fitness is a health-related component of physical fitness that is brought about by sustained physical activity.[2] A person's ability to deliver oxygen to the working muscles is affected by many physiological parameters, including heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, and maximal oxygen consumption.
Understanding the relationship between cardiorespiratory endurance training and other categories of conditioning requires a review of changes that occur with increased aerobic, or anaerobic capacity. As aerobic/anaerobic capacity increases, general metabolism rises, muscle metabolism is enhanced, hemoglobin rises, buffers in the bloodstream increase, venous return is improved, stroke volume is improved, and the blood bed becomes more able to adapt readily to varying demands. Each of these results of cardiovascular fitness/cardiorespiratory conditioning will have a direct positive effect on muscular endurance, and an indirect effect on strength and flexibility.
To facilitate optimal delivery of oxygen to the working muscles, the person needs to train or participate in activities that will build up the energy stores needed for sport. This is referred to as metabolic training. Metabolic training is generally divided into two types: aerobic and anaerobic.
United States:
The United States of America (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S.) or America (/əˈmɛrɪkə/), is a federal republic[16][17] composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions.[fn 6] Forty-eight states and the federal district are contiguous and located in North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is in the northwest corner of North America, bordered by Canada to the east and across the Bering Strait from Russia to the west. The state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific Ocean. The U.S. territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, stretching across nine official time zones. The extremely diverse geography, climate and wildlife of the United States make it one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries.[19]
At 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million km2)[20] and with over 324 million people, the United States is the world's third- or fourth-largest country by total area,[fn 7] and the third-most populous. The capital is Washington, D.C., and the largest city is New York City; twelve other major metropolitan areas—each with at least 4.5 million inhabitants—are Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Riverside.

New York State Offshore Wind Public Webinar - February 13, 2019
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) hosted a public webinar to provide the latest updates on the development of offshore wind in New York State. This webinar covered Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Green New Deal announcements, including $200 million of investments in port infrastructure and the ramped-up target of developing 9,000 megawatts of offshore wind power by 2035, as well as regional and industry updates, stakeholder engagement activities, and new studies and surveys.
First offshore wind farm opens in the U.S
(14 Dec 2016) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: 4071042
LEAD IN:
The US's first offshore wind farm has opened off the coast of Rhode Island, ushering in a new era for the industry.
Deepwater Wind has built five turbines to power around 17,000 homes, a project costing about $300 million.
STORY-LINE:
A perfectly calm day on the Rhode Island coast - though not a great day for creating renewable energy.
These off-shore turbines make up the first US wind farm producing green energy.
Deepwater Wind announced Monday (12 December 2016) that the wind farm had begun producing energy for the grid.
The company describes the opening as a momentous occasion that unlocks the code of how to do offshore wind in the U.S.
Matthew Morrissey is Vice President for Deepwater Wind.
The Block Island Wind Farm is the first in the Nation, offshore wind farm. 30 megawatts, 5 turbines, 6 megawatts each, General Electric, very very excited in this moment in the evolution of offshore wind history in the United States.
Deepwater Wind installed the five turbines over 18 days in August, and has been testing the wind farm's components, software and the system in its entirety.
So a typical land based turbine is about 2 megawatts, these turbines are state of the art, ocean turbines, and they generate about 6 megawatts of power, per unit, adds Morrissey.
The company had planned to open the wind farm, about a $300 million project, in November, but was still working with regulators at the end of the month to get final approval on the protocols for operating the wind farm.
National Grid is buying all of the output. GE Energy Financial Services and Citi became investors in the Block Island project in October.
The wind farm itself will power 17,000 homes. About 1/10th of the power generated comes to the island of Block Island, Rhode Island. The rest of the power that is generated goes right the mainland interconnecting in Rhode Island, explains Morrissey.
Block Island Wind Farm is only the beginning of a much larger development plan with Deepwater Wind. We have won the rights to 256 square miles of area, 15-20 miles from the mainland, out of sight from anyone on shore, to develop projects that are not 30 megawatts, but 400 megawatts and larger.
President-elect Donald Trump has expressed distaste for wind farms and has long been attempting to block a planned offshore site close to a golfing development he owns in Scotland, UK. His reason was that he feels the windmills would spoil the view.
But Bill Penn, president of Block Island Residents Association says most locals are supportive of the U.S.'s first wind farm.
In general, I think they're (the residents) are very supportive. There are a few people that are still unhappy with the farms, especially those people who have houses in the south east part of the island that can see them very visibly. But once they were put up in August, people realized that they really are quite attractive, and it's going to mean a significant change in our electric supply. Right now everything is generated by diesel generators, which is air pollution, oil spills, and all that kind of associated thing. We will have all of our electricity generated from the wind farm.
The offshore wind industry is far more advanced in Europe.
Penn says the wind turbines may bring more tourism to the region.
Well I think what we're finding is that it's going to be a very interesting tourist attraction. People want to see what it looks like. They've heard about them in Europe, and they've seen them on land, but to see them out on the water is really spectacular.
Deepwater Wind is also negotiating with a New York utility to build a 15-turbine wind farm off eastern Long Island.

Growing A Wild NYC - Creating and Restoring Pollinator Habitat
Growing A Wild NYC launched in 2014 in response to the dire situation facing pollinators like bees and butterflies.
Pollinator populations are declining around the world due to habitat loss, overuse of pesticides, parasites, and disease. Additionally, climate change and extreme weather events are disrupting natural cycles and migration patterns. In the United States, one third of all agricultural output depends on pollinators so the creation of pollinator habitat is essential for their survival and ours.
The program works with students in kindergarten through high school across NYC. Students grow native plants from seeds that they collect and turn ground once filled with non-flowering invasive plants into thriving gardens that support monarch butterflies, bees, and countless other pollinators. The program brings nature into the classroom and kids out into nature through classroom work and field trips.
Growing A Wild NYC established its first pollinator garden at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Queens which was severely impacted by Super Storm Sandy. There are now sites at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, Battery Park in Manhattan, and numerous school gardens across New York City.
To date, 17 schools and over 2,000 kids have participated in Growing A Wild NYC. The program is a collaboration among the National Wildlife Federation, National Park Service, Student Conservation Association, NYC Department of Education, the Battery Conservancy, Greenbelt Native Plant Center, Groundwork Hudson Valley, Green Earth Urban Gardens, Metropolitan Monarch Alliance, Community Greenways Collaborative, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
