Parc Monceau, Paris, France
The Parc Monceau is one of the most beautiful parks in Paris—which is saying a lot, considering that Paris parks in general tend to be beautiful. It's a large park on the northwest side of the city, popular with the well-to-do Parisians who live in the area. It is notable for its follies: fake ruins and monuments intended to bring to mind exotic places. It also has places for kids to play, and vast spaces in which to relax. It even has Wi-Fi. This video shows some of the highlights of the park.
Principal photography was completed in early October, 2012.

A Walk Around Parc Monceau, Paris
Parc Monceau is a public park situated in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France, at the junction of Boulevard de Courcelles, Rue de Prony and Rue Georges Berger. At the main entrance is a rotunda. The park covers an area of 20.3 acres.
The park is unusual in France due to its English style: its informal layout, curved walkways and randomly placed statues distinguish it from the more traditional, French-style garden. It includes a collection of scaled-down architectural features, or follies — including an Egyptian pyramid, a Chinese fort, a Dutch windmill, and Corinthian pillars. A number of these are masonic references, reflecting the fact that Philippe d'Orléans was a leading freemason. Parc Monceau includes statues of famous French figures including Guy de Maupassant, Frédéric Chopin, Charles Gounod, Ambroise Thomas, Alfred de Musset, and Edouard Pailleron.
Today, the park has play areas for children and remains very popular with local residents and their families. The site is an active free Wi-Fi area, for computer users looking for Internet access.
Parc Monceau is open daily from sunrise to sunset, with extended hours in the summer months. There are nine gated entries that are monitored by a fifth-generation park watchman who lives above the royal rotunda at the north entrance.[citation needed] The park is listed as grade II semi-private and the six private residences located directly on the park have twenty-four-hour access to the grounds.

Parc Monceau is a public park situated in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France, at the junction of Boulevard de Courcelles, Rue de Prony and Rue Georges Berger. At the main entrance is a rotunda. The park covers an area of 8.2 hectares. The park was established by Phillippe d'Orléans, Duke of Chartres, a cousin of King Louis XVI, fabulously wealthy, and active in court politics and society. In 1769 he had begun purchasing the land where the park is located. In 1778, he decided to create a public park, and employed the writer and painter Louis Carrogis Carmontelle to design the gardens.
The Duke was a close friend of the Prince of Wales, later George IV, and a lover of all things English. His intention was to create what was then called an Anglo-Chinese or English garden, on the earlier model of Stowe House in England (1730–1738), with its examples of the architectural folly, or fantastic reconstructions of buildings of different ages and continents. It was similar in style to several other examples of the French landscape garden built at about the same time, including the Desert de Retz, the gardens of the Château de Bagatelle and the Folie Saint James.
After the monarchy was restored, the park was returned to the family of the Duke. During the Second Empire, the family sold lots within the park to real estate developers, who built luxurious town houses, reducing the size of the park by half. The remaining part of the park was purchased by the city of Paris in 1860. All that remained of the original folly was the water lily pond, the stream and the fantasy tombs, including the Egyptian pyramid.

⁴ᴷ Walking PARIS – PARC MONCEAU
Parc Monceau is full of curiosities. It was created in the second half of the 18th century as a garden of illusions, with its fake Egyptian Pyramid or its Naumachie which in Ancient Rome was a basin to present naval battles. I find a magical atmosphere with its remarkable trees, like its Ginkgo Biloba that I come to admire in different seasons.

Parc Monceau, Paris in France - KOMPAN Playgrounds
Parc Monceau’s playground features have intentionally a high novelty value for kids who are well used to climbing stairs in their nearby apartments. The carousels, springers and swings introduce a different kind of movement and the freedom of the dome-shaped climbing net lets them develop and express themselves on a refreshingly different level. The playground is designed with multiple zones each focusing on a certain play value. There is a place for toddlers to go easy, and there is a place for the older children to be wild. In the public park, Parc Monceau, the entire family can have fun.

Parc Monceau, Paris
Le parc Monceau est un des plus beaux parcs de Paris. Il possède une rotonde, un ancien pavillon, quelques bassins et structures d'apparence ancienne.
Parc Monceau Paris
Parc Monceau is one of the first landscape parks to be made in Paris. It was designed for the Anglophile Duc de Chartres twenty years before the French revolution. After the revolution it became a public park in what is now a wealthy quarter of the city. The designer used Rousseau's words from La Nouvelle Héloïse in explaining the aim: 'to bring together all ages and all parts of the world in a single garden'. Many ages and parts of the world are represtented by follies: a Roman ruin, an Egyptian pyramid, a minaret, a Dutch windmill, a ruined fort and other structures inspired by China, the Middle Ages and prehistory. It was a romantic conception, made more romantic by Alphand in 1861.

Inspired by an English-Chinese style from the 18th century, Monceau Park is considered as the first irregular garden with outdoor curiosities.
Monceau Park is thought by many to represent a new concept in garden design, with modern art influences and a variety of points of interest for the visitor.
Some examples of the modern art style are the fake antique ruins that you have on the banks of a lake, the little bridge, a grotto and even an Egyptian pyramid.

Paris' 8th Arrondissement is filled with beautiful places, but not much in the way of food that I would recommend. That's not to say you can't find some great stuff there though, so don't worry! Grab my guide to Paris here: for all the ideas you might need and more while visiting Paris.

This was my first time visiting Madeline and St Augustine, as well as le Village Royal (which is where the colorful umbrellas are located) in Paris' 8th arrondissement. Concorde and the Champs Elysees are usually much more accessible, along with the Arc de Triomphe.

FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? On and off for over two years.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a Draw My Life video that explains a lot here:
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself:
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here:
Do you speak French? Oui.
You talk a lot about the books you're working on, what are they about? - They're sci-fi (and fantasy) and I've got a decent pitch for you here:
Do you make money off YouTube? - Ha, no. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $1/mo to help me make better videos:
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game):
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. This is the US one:
And here's the French wishlist:
