Penang Hill Railway, Penang Island, Malaysia |
Penang Hill Railway, Penang Island, Malaysia |
Penang Hill is a hill resort comprising a group of peaks on Penang Island, Malaysia. It is located within the Air Itam suburb, 6 km (3.7 mi) west of the centre of George Town.
Penang Hill is also known by the Malay name Bukit Bendera, which actually refers to Flagstaff Hill, the most developed peak.
Penang Hill covers a number of hills, with the highest point at Western Hill which is 833 m (2,733 ft) above sea level.
The hill stands out prominently from the lowlands as a hilly and forested area. It was used as a retreat during the British colonial period, and is now a popular tourist destination in Penang.
The top of the hill is accessible via the Penang Hill Railway from its base station at Hill Railway Station Road.
To date, this funicular railway system is the only one of its kind in Malaysia, transporting over a million visitors to the peak of Penang Hill as of 2014.

BEST BEACH IN PENANG MALAYSIA - Batu Ferringhi Beach & Night Market
Batu Ferringhi Beach is the best beach in Penang Malaysia and Penang’s second largest tourist destination after George Town Penang. Batu Ferringhi beach is filled with water sports, 5 star resorts, and of course the famous Batu Ferringhi Night Market. Let us show you around!
There are plenty of beaches in Penang to explore, but none are more built up than Batu Ferringhi. Of all the beaches in Malaysia, Batu Ferringhi is the most developed for tourists. We arrived at the beach and were instantly transported out of the chaos of George Town Penang into a seaside paradise. We had a relaxing stroll along Batu Ferringhi beach but decided to skip swimming due to the jellyfish in Penang that are known to sting. No thank you!
Visiting Batu Ferringhi Beach & Night Market is one of the best things to do in Penang while on vacation. Exploring Penang Island is much more than just George Town, so make sure you allow yourself some time to see the northern tip of Penang Island which is home to Batu Ferringhi, the Tropical Spice Gardens and more.
After flying the drone along Batu Ferringhi beach, we were lucky enough to find a local pier to watch an incredible sunset. We were happy to be the only two tourists in sight while we sat on the pier and watched the red, golden sun set below the horizon.
After the sun sets the Batu Ferringhi night market starts to become alive. Lining 1km of road along Jalan Batu Ferringhi, this is known to be the best night market Penang has to offer! The addition of this night market to Batu Ferringhi makes it not just your ordinary Malaysia beach. There is plenty to see day or night. As one of the most affordable beaches in Southeast Asia, Batu Ferringhi’s night market has a great deal of shopping and local Malaysian food to try. We found ourselves in a Turkish restaurant called Rubin Mardini on Jalan Batu Ferringhi and had an excellent meal. Highly recommend!
We hope you enjoyed the video and got some tips on the best places in Penang! Of course Batu Ferringhi isn’t one of the best beaches in Asia, but it’s a lovely beach filled with life nestled 20 minutes north of Malaysia’s UNESCO World Heritage sight of George Town Penang. If you’re exploring Penang Island, don’t forget to stop at Batu Ferringhi for a day and enjoy the sand, sun, and food. Hope you enjoy this Penang Vlog!

It has two parts: Penang Island, where the capital city, George Town, is located, and Seberang Perai (formerly Province Wellesley) on the Malay Peninsula. The second smallest Malaysian state by land mass, Penang is bordered by Kedah to the north and the east, and Perak to the south. Currently, Penang is home to Southeast Asias Longest bridge connecting the island to mainland. Penangs population stood at nearly 1.767 million as of 2018, while its population density rose to 1,684/km2 (4,360/sq mi). It has among the nations highest population densities and is one of the countrys most urbanised states. George Town, Malaysias second largest city, is also home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site. // Penang is a state in northwest Malaysia comprising mainland Seberang Perai and Penang Island. On the island, the state capital of George Town is home to landmarks such as colonial Fort Cornwallis, the ornate Chinese clan house Khoo Kongsi and the Kapitan Keling Mosque, all testaments to centuries of foreign influence. To the west, a funicular ascends Penang Hill, with its trails, flower gardens and panoramic views. The hillside Buddhist Kek Lok Si Temple is known for its 7-tiered pagoda. In the islands south, the Snake Temple houses pit vipers. In the north is Batu Ferringhi, the islands main beach resort, with a nightly market. On the islands northwest tip, Penang National Park shelters the nests of endangered sea turtles. On the mainland, Penang Bird Park has hundreds of bird species, plus crocodiles and tiny mouse-deer. Nearby, Arulmigu Karumariamman Temple features a large tower and sculptures of Hindu deities. Overlooking the sea in the town of Butterworth, Tow Boo Kong, or the 9 Emperor Gods Temple, has ornate shrine halls. [wikipedia // Google]

A Tourist's Guide to Penang, Malaysia
With my pal, I fly into the Malaysian island of Penang, famous for its beaches, street art of street food. We sample them all, as well as hiring a couple of mopeds to drive around the island. Along the way we stop at a butterfly farm, a temple full of pit vipers and see one of the longest reclining Buddhas in Malaysia. We stay in Georgetown, the sprawling and modern capital.
SNAKE TEMPLE, BAYAN LEPAS, PENANG ISLAND, MALAYSIA, JAN 15, 2014
HI FOLKS, THIS WAS WORTH THE TRIP. THESE PIT VIPERS ARE VERY PRETTY AND TOO MANY TO SEE THEM ALL. ENJOY, HAPPY TRAILS, SNAKE MAN SALLEE!!!
Ferry Boat to Penang Island from Butterworth Station (Malaysia)
We follow the crossing by ferry Boat to Penang Island from Butterworth Station in Malaysia having originally arrived by train from Bangkok Thailand as here: From Butterworth Station is is an easy 5 minute walk to find the pier for Georgetown (Penang). Note, ATMs are not easy to find on arrival so you may want to exchange money on the train between Hat Yai and Padang Besar, where hawkers offer decent exchange rates. The boat to Penang costs only 1.2 RM and the journey takes roughly 20mins. On arrival I suggest just crossing the road and following Chulia Street to the main tourist stretch of Georgetown. There are taxis but don’t expect them to use meters and opt to pay a fixed price of no more than 15RM throughout the nearby Georgetown area.
Tanjung Bungah/Batu Ferringgi hillside border, Penang, Malaysia.
The residentials on the hills slopes, at the border of Tanjung Bunga and Batu Ferringgi. Facing the sea and Northwards, out from Penang Island. The beautiful beach-head is called Shamrock Beach. Aerial video shot at 1080/30.

PENANG MALAYSIA, INDIAN FOOD IN PENANG, PENANG GEORGETOWN MALAYSIA
PENANG MALAYSIA, INDIAN FOOD IN PENANG, PENANG GEORGETOWN MALAYSIA, Penang is a Malaysian state located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia, by the Malacca Strait. It has two parts: Penang Island, where the capital city, George Town, is located, and Seberang Perai (formerly Province Wellesley) on the Malay Peninsula. The second smallest Malaysian state by land mass, Penang is bordered by Kedah to the north and the east, and Perak to the south.[1] Currently, Penang is home to Southeast Asia's Longest bridge connecting the island to mainland. [4]
Penang's population stood at nearly 1.767 million as of 2018, while its population density rose to 1,684/km2 (4,360/sq mi).[2] It has among the nation's highest population densities and is one of the country's most urbanised states.[5] George Town, Malaysia's second largest city, is also home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site.[6]
Penang's modern history began in 1786, upon the establishment of George Town by Francis Light. Penang formed part of the Straits Settlements in 1826, which became a British crown colony in 1867. Direct British rule was only briefly interrupted during World War II, when Japan occupied Penang; the British retook Penang in 1945. Penang was later merged with the Federation of Malaya (now Malaysia), which gained independence from the British in 1957. Following the decline of its entrepôt trade towards the 1970s, Penang's economy was reoriented towards hi-tech manufacturing.[7]
Known as the Silicon Valley of the East for its industries, Penang is one of Malaysia's most vital economic powerhouses.[8][9][10] Penang has the highest Gross Domestic Product per capita among all Malaysian states and is considered a high-income economy.[11] In addition, Penang recorded the nation's second highest Human Development Index, after Kuala Lumpur.[12] Correspondingly, the state has a relatively well-educated population, with a youth literacy rate of 99.5% as of 2014.[13]
Its heterogeneous population is highly diverse in ethnicity, culture, language and religion. Aside from the three main races, the Chinese, Malays and Indians, Penang is home to significant Eurasian, Siamese and expatriate communities.[14][15][16] A resident of Penang is colloquially known as a Penangite or Penang Lâng (in Penang Hokkien). As in the rest of Malaysia, Penang has a tropical rainforest climate bordering on a tropical monsoon climate, although the state does experience slightly drier conditions from December to February of the following year. The climate is very much dictated by the surrounding sea and the prevailing wind system.
Penang's proximity with the island of Sumatra makes it susceptible to dust particles carried by wind from perennial but transient forest fires, creating a phenomenon known as the Southeast Asian haze.[111]
The Penang Meteorological Office in Bayan Lepas is the primary weather forecast facility for northern Malaysia. George Town, popularly regarded as the food capital of Malaysia, is renowned for its good and varied cuisine which incorporates Malay, Chinese, Indian, Peranakan, Thai and European influences.[219] The city has been recognised by various publications, such as Time Magazine, CNN and Lonely Planet, as one of the Asian cities with the best street cuisine.[194][220][221] According to Time Magazine in 2004, nowhere else can such great tasting food be so cheap, whilst Robin Barton of the Lonely Planet described George Town as the culinary epicentre of the many cultures that arrived after it was set up as a trading port in 1786, from Malays to Indians, Acehenese to Chinese, Burmese to Thais.[220][221]
The various street dishes and delicacies of Penang include (but not limited to) asam laksa, char kway teow, curry mee, Hokkien mee, nasi kandar, oh chien (fried oyster omelette), lor bak, rojak, pasembur, tau sar pneah, chendol, ais kacang and tau sar pneah (bean paste biscuit).

Penang: an island surrounded by clear, blue sea. It’s no secret that beaches in Penang are one of the main attractions. Tourists flock the beaches to sunbathe, swim and chill due to great, sunny weather. It could be too hot for us locals, nevertheless, we still love it.

Batu Ferringhi Beach / Batu Ferringhi is a suburb of George Town in Penang, Malysia. Located along the northern coast of Penang Island and about 11 km (6.8 mi) northwest of the city centre, it is the prime beach destination in Penang among locals and tourists. To cater to the influx of tourists, several major high-rise hotels have been established along the 4 km (2.5 mi) stretch of beaches, including Hard Rock Hotel.
The beach resorts along Batu Ferringhi also offer various water sport activities, such as parasailing.
