Prato sits in the heart of Tuscany, near some of the most famous of the world's cities of art: Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Siena. It is the second-largest city in the Region, as well as the third in Central Italy for number of inhabitants. The city's roots lie in the realms of art and nature, even if its economy - and that of the Province - was historically founded on the textile sector. Such a history is still alive and kicking, spurring on its growth beyond the riches it created; the area remains particularly rich in its values of hospitality, and in its cultural diversity.
The city of Prato, internationally renowned for the textile production that has its roots in a time-honored tradition, gather the evolution phases of this activity together in a museum. It is a journey through the historical memories and world of textiles. The terrain is rather varied, offering historic-artistic attraction of great significance along an itinerary in discovery of the treasures of the Etruscan, Medieval, and contemporary ages.
The Province of Prato is an authentic discovery of unexpected treasures. In a province primarily known for its important textile districts, it is less-known that it preserves historic works of beauty, where traditions and a prized cuisine blend with the beautiful scenery to create a dynamic that is fresh, modern and new. The Province comprises the Comunes of Cantagallo, Carmignano, Montemurlo, Poggio a Caiano, Vaiano and Vernio.
Piazza del Comune is the original nucleus of Prato, a crossroad of two Medieval streets. It hosts the 13th-century Palazzo Comunale and the medieval Palazzo Pretorio, which is characterized by red bricks and is the home of the civic museum that will open again on March 22nd after a long period of closure due to restoration. In the middle of the square, there is a statue of Prato's famous merchant, Francesco Datini. You'll also see a fountain: it's copy of the Fontana del Bacchino (Little Bacchus), the original of which is inside the Palazzo Comunale.
Piazza del Duomo is just few steps from Piazza del Comune. The main attraction here is the Cathedral of Santo Stefano, a jewel of Romanesque Gothic architecture, which featuresAndrea della Robbia's sculptured relief doorway and Donatello's pulpit. Inside, you'll find frescoes by Paolo Uccello, Filippo Lippi and Agnolo Gaddi. On September 8, each year, this is where the Display of the Sacred Belt of the Madonna takes place. It is one of the main celebrations in Prato.
San Domenico church is easy to reach from Piazza del Duomo, by take Via Convenevole. San Domenico is a refined Gothic structure in stone and brick. Passing through the cloister, you'll see the Museo di Pittura Murale. Palazzo Datini is another point of interest because because it is a rare example of a medieval frescoed residence. It was built in 1383 for the merchant Francesco Datini, and, in 1409, housed Pope Alexander V.
In Piazza San Francesco stands the church of the same name, which features a beautiful green and white marble façade. It houses a funerary monument of Geminiano Inghirami and frescoes by Niccolò Gerini in the Migliorati Chapel. Piazza delle Carceri is the home of the Emperor's Castle, erected by Frederick II and built between 1237 and 1247 by Riccardo da Lentini. Here, you'll also find the Basilica of S. Maria delle Carceri, which was commissioned by Lorenzo de' Medici to Giuliano da San Gallo. It features works by Andrea della Robbia, Bernardo Buontalenti and stained glass windows by Domenico Ghirlandaio.
The Cassero Medievale is a medieval bridge house that has a super-elevated fortified walk, accessible from Viale Piave, just in front of the Eastern Gate of the Emperor's Castle. Nearby, you'll find the Museo del Tessuto, the only museum of its kind in Italy. In Piazza San Marco, there is the Square Form with Cut, a white marble sculpture by Henry Moore, which was donated to the City of Prato in 1974. Outside the walls, there is a main attraction you cannot miss: the Centro per l'arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci, located in Viale della Repubblica. It is not just an exhibition space but alsoa place for international research on contemporary art and textile technology.

Prato is a city and comune in Tuscany, Italy, the capital of the Province of Prato. The city is at the foot of Monte Retaia, elevation 768 metres, the last peak in the Calvana chain.
Prato is a city of 186,710 habitants of Tuscany,immediately to the west of Florence, it is capital of the homonymous province since 1992. The city is famous in Italy and worldwide textile production and the famous biscuit with almonds better known as cantuccio. In recent decades, Prato, has enjoyed a significant population boom and increased immigration. In fact it is currently the second city of Tuscany, the third of central Italy (after Rome and Florence) and the eighteenth in Italy for its population. Prato and its Province are located in the heart of Tuscany, ideal location to reach the other famous cities in the region. The city and its surrounding area offer interesting and prestigious artistic itineraries, nature and gastronomy. Spend the holidays in Prato means for tourists to dive into the past with an eye towards the future, a journey that goes to contemporary art from the Etruscans.
Prato is the low-profile cousin of Florence and Pisa in the Central Italy region of Tuscany. Not as mobbed with tourists and without the typical tourist ripoffs it is nonetheless rich with history, art, and great food. It's a great place to stay and save a few dollars while doing day trips to Pisa or Florence.
As regards the area, Prato is a city that is part of the north-east and covers about 100 square km. Located at the foot of the mountain of Retaia, is the highest peak of the town of Prato is the mountain Cantagrilli. The river through meadows and the Bisenzio, a tributary of the Arno.

Emperor's Castle': Fortress, also known as Santa Barbara or Swabian castle, can be considered the most important architectural evidence of centuries XI-XIII.
Piazza del Comune: created at the end of the thirteenth century, the intersection of two main roads of the city. In the central area of the square is the Fountain of Bacchino, which was cast in bronze between 1659 and 1665 by Ferdinando Tacca, during the recognition status of city of Prato. In front of City Hall (located in the square) is also found in white Carrara marble statue dedicated to the merchant of Prato, Francesco Datini Antonio Garella (1896).
Town Hall: Located in Piazza del Comune in Prato, overlooking Praetorian Palace. It 'was created as the seat of the priors, linking different buildings. Currently it houses the Town Hall. In the hall of the Municipal Council are held two frescoes of the fourteenth century, representing an Allegory of Justice and Majesty. Inside the building are kept several portraits of the Podestà of Prato and the Granduchi of Tuscany.
Praetorian Palace: is the old Town Hall Lawn, located in the town square in front of the current Town Hall. Since 1912 it houses the Museo Civico.
Datini Palace: it was the home of the famous merchant Francesco di Marco Datini (Prato 1335-1410). He leaves an important witness to himself, made up of records and correspondence, which constitute a substantial fund today filed with the State Archives of Prato, which is housed in the old house.

Decreto sicurezza, tensione a Prato tra Polizia e manifestanti
Diverse centinaia di persone hanno manifestato a Prato in solidarietà con 21 operai della Tintoria Superlativa multati a dicembre con sanzioni da circa 4.000 euro ciascuno perché avevano protestato per le condizioni di lavoro. Furono accusati di 'blocco' stradale'. L'iniziativa è stata promossa dalla sigla SìCobas per chiedere alla prefettura di Prato l'annullamento delle multe e si è svolta in una fase iniziale tra piazza della Stazione centrale e piazza San Marco con un corteo aperto dallo striscione con le scritte 'Liberi dai decreti Salvini', 'Cancelliamo le multe'. Il corteo avrebbe dovuto fermarsi nei pressi di piazza San Marco ma i manifestanti hanno proseguito verso il centro evitando lo sbarramento delle forze dell'ordine. Una volta arrivati in piazza del Comune sono partite alcune cariche per allontanare il corteo dalla piazza. .di Giulio Schoen
Teresa Lin, prima consigliera comunale cinese eletta a Prato: Promuoverò dialogo tra le comunità
Teresa Lin e Marco Wong sono i primi cittadini italiani di origine cinese ad entrare in consiglio comunale a Prato. Sono stati eletti nella lista civica legata a Matteo Biffoni, riconfermato per il secondo mandato al ballottaggio del 9 giugno. È un passo molto grande quello di entrare in consiglio comunale - dice Teresa Lin, appena 24 anni - comunque sia io che Marco siamo sì rappresentanti della comunità cinese ma soprattutto siamo italiani, nati e cresciuti qua perciò vogliamo rappresentare tutti. Prato: archeologia in città - Le indagini di Piazza delle Carceri
La Cattedra di Archeologia Medievale dell'Università di Firenze, in collaborazione con la Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici della Toscana, la Soprintendenza per i Beni Architettonici, Paesaggistici, Storici, Artistici ed Etnoantropologici di Prato e la Direzione Regionale per i Beni Culturali e Paesaggistici della Toscana, è stata incaricata dal Comune di Prato di svolgere un programma di Archeologia Preventiva in occasione dei lavori per la riqualificazione di piazza delle Carceri.
Le indagini, affidate allo spin-off accademico dell'Università di Firenze Laboratori Archeologici San Gallo, hanno interessato (da settembre 2012 a luglio 2013) uno dei principali nuclei storici di Prato, al crocevia fra due dei tre insediamenti altomedievali dalla cui fusione ebbe origine la città: la curtis ed il palatium dei conti Alberti, il castellum dell'Imperatore e la seconda cinta muraria.
Sono state portate alla luce tre aree di particolare interesse archeologico che si confermano di grande rilevanza per la storia medievale della città, con due lastricati e resti di edifici medievali abbandonati probabilmente a partire dalla metà del XIV secolo

Piazza dell'Immaginario dà continuità ad un modello di lavoro che propone una riflessione sul rapporto fra arte/fotografia e territorio e sul ruolo che assume l'arte all'interno del contesto urbano. Si usa per ciò l'arte come mezzo per capire e intendere il nostro presente, lavorando anche sulla cura dello spazio pubblico quotidiano, quello prossimo al luogo di lavoro dello stesso Dryphoto arte contemporanea, col proposito di migliorarlo e coabitarlo.
Così, Piazza dell'Immaginario é un progetto ma diventa anche un toponimo nella zona dove Via Fabio Filzi e Via Pistoiese sono messi in comunicazione attraverso un passaggio, la galleria di un condominio.
