The Jewish Federation of Cincinnati and Jewish Family Service of Cincinnati joined local Jewish leaders to host the event.
The crowd showed its support for Israel right now during its conflict with Hamas.
Organizers say the event was intended to acknowledge Israel's right to self-defense and to pray for peace.

Federal Judge Arthur Spiegel dies at age 94
CINCINNATI (Brad Underwood) -- One of the longest sitting federal judges on the Cincinnati bench has died at 94.
Federal Judge Arthur Spiegel for the southern district of Ohio was appointed by President Jimmy Carter in 1980. People may remember the judge was involved in the Pete Rose scandal sending him to prison for tax evasion. In 1995 the judge took senior status on the court and continued to hear cases.
Judge Spiegel was also a war hero. As a marine in World War II he fought in four Pacific battles, rescued a wounded marine in New Guinea, and did artillery spotting from a light aircraft under enemy fire.
Judge Norbert Nadel spoke highly of Judge Spiegel, simply as a sharp man. Judge Nadel said when he was in law school he would often observe Spiegel as an attorney.
When I was a clerk in common pleas court, he was an attorney and was an excellent trial lawyer. He was one of the best, said Nadel.
There is no age limit for federal court judges and at 94-years-old, Judge Spiegel was one of the oldest to hear cases.
Weil Funeral home is handling the arrangements. Judge Spiegel's visitation is set for Monday at 11:30a.m. at the Plum Street Temple.
The funeral will follow at 12:30p.m.

Jewish Community Action's message to Governor Dayton.
On Sunday, March 27th, 250 people gathered together for Jewish Community Action's 9th Annual Immigrant Freedom Seder.
The Seder brings people together from diverse backgrounds to share the story of Passover and its message of freedom.
This year's seder commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire drawing on the connections to past and present immigrant and worker struggles, and the search for justice as it continues today.
The following is a message to the governor to express our support for immigrant and workers' rights:
Greetings Governor Dayton,
We are greeting you today from multiple communities at Jewish Community Action's 9th Annual Immigrant Freedom Seder; we are Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Native American, Buddhist, Hindu and more. We are black, white, Asian, Indigenous, Latino and more. We are workers, employees and employers. We are immigrants and we were born here. We are Minnesota. We want to let you know that we support immigrants' and workers' rights. We oppose any bills in the state legislature that will harm immigrants and workers. We oppose English only laws and laws that profile people based on the color of their skin. We oppose the elimination and reduction of collective bargaining and changes to workers compensation and safety rules. We ask that you support immigrants' rights and humane federal immigration reform instead of state level, enforcement heavy policies. We ask you to support workers' rights and legislation that affirms and respects the dignity and rights of workers. We are Minnesota.

Chanukah Live 2015 put on by Chabad House of Asheville. A grand tour of how we Jews like to party and eat. It is our most fattening holiday of the year. Probably because it is a week or 8 days of fried foods and sweets.

SUMMARY
=======
The history of the Jews in the United States has been part of the American national fabric since colonial times. Until the 1830s, the Jewish community of Charleston, South Carolina, was the largest in North America. In the late 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s, many Jewish immigrants left from various nations to enter the U.S. as part of the general rise of immigration movements. For example, many German Jews arrived in the middle of the 19th century, established clothing stores in towns across the country, formed Reform synagogues, and were active in banking in New York. Immigration of Eastern Yiddish-speaking Ashkenazi Jews, in 1880–1914, brought a large, poor, traditional element to New York City. They were Orthodox or Conservative in religion. They founded the Zionist movement in the United States, and were active supporters of the Socialist party and labor unions. Economically, they concentrated in the garment industry.
Refugees arrived from diaspora communities in Europe after World War II and, after 1970, from the Soviet Union. Politically, American Jews have been especially active as part of the liberal New Deal coalition of the Democratic Party since the 1930s, although recently there is a conservative Republican element among the Orthodox. They have displayed high education levels, and high rates of upward social mobility. The Jewish communities in small towns have dwindled, as the population concentrated in large metropolitan areas.
In the 1940s, Jews comprised 3.7% of the national population. Today, at about 6.5 million, the population is 2% of the national total—and shrinking as a result of smaller family sizes and interfaith marriages resulting in nonobservance. The largest population centers are the metropolitan areas of New York (2.1 million in 2000), Los Angeles (668,000), Miami (331,000), Philadelphia (285,000), Chicago (265,000) and Boston (254,000).
