A Walk Though Eglise Saint Augustin, Paris
The Église Saint-Augustin de Paris (Church of St. Augustine) is a Catholic church located at 46 boulevard Malesherbes in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. The church was designed to provide a prominent vista at the end of the boulevard both of which were built during Haussmann's renovation of Paris under the Second French Empire. The closest métro station is Saint-Augustin Metro- M 9..
Saint-Augustin was built between 1860 and 1868 in an eclectic style combining Tuscan Gothic and Romanesque elements. The structure is 300 feet in length and 240 feet in width, and was one of the first sizable buildings in Paris constructed around a metal frame. Saint-Augustin's facade features a frieze by François Jouffroy depicting Jesus and the twelve apostles above the four evangelists. Internally, the stained glass windows depict bishops and martyrs of the first centuries and the cast-iron columns are decorated with polychrome angels. A statue of Joan of Arc, by Paul Dubois, was erected in the church in 1896. The church features paintings by William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Jean-Hippolyte Flandrin, Émile Signol, Alexandre-Dominique Denuelle and sculpture by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse and Henri Chapu.
It was intended to be the resting place of Napoleon III and the Empress Eugénie who died in exile and were instead interred in St Michael's Abbey, Farnborough in England.
The organ is celebrated in the world of organ building. The church's main organ was built by Charles Spackman Barker. One of the earliest organs to employ electricity, it features 54 stops with three 54-key manual keyboards and pedalboards.
A Walk Around Place Saint-Augustin, Paris
During the reign of Napoleon III in the 1850s and 60s Paris experienced a dramatic transformation under the direction of Georges-Eugène Haussmann. Haussmann cut many boulevards through the crowded, medieval city placing prominent public buildings at the boulevard ends to provide impressive vistas. The boulevard Malesherbes was laid out cutting northwest from La Madeleine. Haussmann cut many boulevards through the crowded, medieval city placing prominent public buildings at the boulevard ends to provide impressive vistas. The boulevard Malesherbes was laid out cutting northwest from La Madeleine. Saint-Augustin, close to the spot where Haussmann was born, was built to provide a counterpoint to the famous columns of La Madeleine at the other end of the boulevard. It was also designed to be visible from the Arc de Triomphe down the avenue de Friedland. The chosen site, an odd shaped lot at the intersection of four streets, and the need for a dome of 200 feet so as to be visible from the Arc de Triomphe, dictated unusual proportions for the building. The church was designed by Haussmann's fellow Protestant, architect Victor Baltard who also famously designed Les Halles markets. While Baltard's use of iron in Saint-Augustin's structure is praised for its inventiveness, at least one critic has described the church as, an eyesore: ridiculously sited, without proportion, crushed beneath an outsized dome. The neighborhood around the church is now one of the most expensive in Paris.

Musée Rodin (Rodin Museum):
Musée Rodin is an 18th century mansion, close to Invalides and the Eiffel Tower. The museum houses a number of the great artist Auguste Rodin's sculptures as well as works by Camille Claudel. It is surrounded by peaceful and romantic French gardens, with the sculptures 'The Thinker', 'The Burghers of Calais' and 'The Gates of Hell'.
Musée Jacquemart-André (Jacquemart André Museum):
THe museum is an exquisite 19th century mansion, and former private residence of art connoisseurs Edouard André and Nélie Jacquemart. The current collection houses sculptures and paintings by Dutch, French, Italian and English masters from 15th to 18th centuries, including: Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Bellini.
One of the highlights of visits is a stop in the Jacquemart André Tea Room, where one can enjoy lunch or coffee and pastries surrounded by beautiful Belgian tapestries and a fresco by Tiepolo.
Notre-Dame (Notre-Dame Cathedral):
The cathedral of Notre-Dame is not only a masterpiece of French Gothic architecture, but has also been Catholic Paris' ceremonial focus for seven centuries. The cathedral's immense interior, a marvel of medieval engineering, holds over 6,000 people and has spectacular rose windows.
Église Saint-Augustin (Church of St. Augustine):
The Church of St. Augustine was built in 1868 and is one of the the most most beautiful churches in the French capital. The church is dedicated to the philosopher and theologian, Augustine of Hippo (354 – 430), patron saint of brewers, printers and theologians. His writings, including his framing of the concepts of original sin and just war, were very influential in the development of Western Christianity.
Eglise Saint-Eustache (The Church of Saint-Eustache):
The Eglise Saint-Eustache in the heart of Les Halles is one of the most visited churches in Paris. It is known for its unusually large dimensions, which make it seem more like a cathedral than a church, and the wealth of art works it houses. The church was built in 1532 and subsequently restored in 1840, and therefore uses a variety of styles: the façade is Gothic, while the interior is in the Renaissance and classical styles.
Basilique du Sacré-Cœur (The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris) and Montmartre (
The Sacré-Coeur is one of the most iconic monuments in Paris. At the top of the Montmartre (signifying 'mountain of the martyr'; it owes this name to the martyrdom of Saint Denis, who was decapitated on the hill around 250 AD), it provides one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the capital, from almost half a kilometer above ground. Inside the building, the ceiling is decorated with the largest mosaic in France measuring about 480 square meters. The crypt in the underground contains statues of saints and a relic that some believe to be the very Sacred Heart (Sacré-Coeur) of Christ. A bit higher up, visitors can access the dome where the 360 degree view of Paris is magnificent. A short walk from the Sacré Coeur is the Place du Tertre, the district of Abbesses with its steep, winding roads, and at the bottom of the hill, the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret.

Presentaion #6 Gradual conversion to Catholic faith Part #1
Charles Eugène de Foucauld (15 September 1858 – 1 December 1916), Blessed ,was a French Catholic religious and priest living among the Tuareg in the Sahara in Algeria. He was assassinated in 1916 and is considered by the Catholic Church to be a martyr. His inspiration and writings led to the founding of the Little Brothers of Jesus among other religious congregations. He was beatified on 13 November 2005 by Pope Benedict XVI.
As an officer of the French Army in North Africa he first developed his strong feelings about the desert and solitude. Toward the end of October 1886, he went through a conversion experience at the Church of Saint Augustin in Paris under Henri Huvelin [fr]'s guidance.[1
