Emerald Rose: Autumn in Asheville
Emerald Rose plays a mix of Celtic and Folk-Rock.
For more detailed info about the band, visit their web page @:
While Emerald Rose is an American band originally from the Southern state of Georgia, and Autumn in Asheville is most likely about that season in Asheville, North Carolina, because of the strong Celtic impressions of their music, it seemed a natural choice in backdrop for this video to feature the Irish countryside.

Nov 2018@ Gloria Amani, What does a husband or hobby have to do with a criminal removing the light bulb from my come? Where is your sense of security?
Burglary crime statistics and facts: According to the latest FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Statistics, property crime rates - including burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft - have seen a significant decline in the last few years:
The 2015 property crime rate was 14.4% less than the 2011 estimate and 25.7% less than the 2006 estimate. The rate of property crime as a whole decreased from 13.9 victimizations per 1,000 households in 2014 to 11.2 per 1,000 in 2015 - a 19% change. Burglary, specifically, dropped from 701 per 100,000 people to 542 per 100,000 people - a 22% change. In comparing 2015 vs. 2016, preliminary data shows a 3.4% decrease in burglary crimes, with larger cities reporting a greater decrease at 5.9% than their nonmetropolitan counterparts at 4%. Keep in mind that statistics do vary significantly by region, for example, the Northeast showed the greatest decrease at 5.9%. If you want to know how where you live compares, you can find the most recent crime statistics for your area here.
While today's burglary statistics show an overall decrease in burglary rates, thousands of homes (roughly 325,000) are still being broken into every year - often in plain view, during the day. In fact, property crimes in 2015 resulted in losses estimated at $14.3 billion.
There is one burglary every 13 seconds.
There are roughly 2.5 million burglaries a year, 66% of those being home break ins.
Police solve only 13% of reported burglary cases due to lack of a witness or physical evidence.
325,000
2.5 million
When do burglaries occur?
There are 1,495,790 burglaries during the day. Break ins are 6% more likely to occur during the day between 6am and 6pm while people are at work or running errands. There are 1,324,090 burglaries during the night. The cover of night brings security for intruders but also means people are more likely be home.Snow and cold are also a significant deterrent. The lowest amount of burglaries happen in the month of February. A report from the U.S. Department of Justice showed that from 1993 to 2010, on average, burglary rates were highest in the summer, with about 9% lower rates in spring, 6% lower in fall, and 11% lower in winter.
How do they break in?
Burglars are most attracted to homes that do not have a home security system, but only 17% of houses have a system in place. Homes without a security system are 300% more likely to be burglarized. 95% of all home invasions require some sort of forceful entry, be that breaking a window, picking a lock, or kicking in a door. The most common tools used for breaking in are pry bars, pliers, screwdrivers, and little hammers. All easily concealed and very common tools, making them harder to trace.
Who's breaking in?
A study on the habits and motivations of burglars conducted by the UNC Charlotte found:
Burglars are most likely to be male and under 25 years old.85% of break ins are by amateurs and done out of desperation, which some might suggest makes them more dangerous. Most spend time considering factors like proximity to traffic and possible escape routes; 12% admitted to planning in advance while 41% said it was an impulsive decision. 83% admitted that they specifically look to see if there's an alarm; 60% would change their mind if there was one installed.

17 Sunnyside Lane, Asheville, NC
Welcome to the historic Charles Joyner house in Beaverdam Valley, one of the most beautiful residential valleys in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located just north of the Grove Park Inn and Sunset Mountain, Beaverdam Valley is desirable not only for it's scenic beauty but also for it's close proximity to downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway, literally minutes from The Fresh Market and the many great restaurants in the North Asheville area. A short, scenic drive from town brings you to quiet Sunnyside Lane where the Joyner House sits beautifully in the heart of Beaverdam valley in a jaw-dropping setting of mature trees, perennial and rose gardens, and the pastoral and mountain views of this beautiful valley.
Early settlers of the valley appear repeatedly in the history and development of Asheville, Buncombe County and, indeed, the history of the state. At the turn of the 19th century the Joyner family owned a great deal of acreage, and here along a stream in the heart of the valley is where Charles Joyner, a carpenter and furniture-maker, built his family home circa 1905.
The stunning vernacular home with its multiple gables and shingle siding is an excellent example of the style of architecture built by local craftsmen at the turn of the century and is constructed entirely of wormy chestnut which historians believe were harvested on site.
The Lovelace family, who became the 4th owners in 1992, have restored and enhanced this special property in painstaking detail that is evident as soon as you enter the property that is bordered by white 4 post and board fence, as you view the manicured grounds with perennial and rose gardens, as you step up on the shaded wraparound porch, and when you enter the foyer and see the Preservation Society's Griffin Award hanging on the wall.
Also in the foyer you will notice the hall tree, an original to the house that will convey to the new owners, along with the parent / child loveseat in the adjoining living room. Notice the beautiful heart pine floors, the original hardware throughout and the great condition of the walls throughout, which were filled with insulation and re-plastered, with the original moldings intact or replaced where necessary. During it's restoration, the owners found the original mantels for all the fireplaces stored in a garage located on the property. These were restored and put back in place, along with the original andirons.
The original double-hung windows throughout, with the original glass, have also been restored to like-new condition and quality low-profile storm windows and doors have been installed to allow the home to be efficiently heated and cooled. All utilities are underground (cable, power, and TV) and the home's wiring has been upgraded throughout, including phone / cable lines for lighting, computer use and modern appliances. Also updated are the home's plumbing and sewer lines.
The formal dining room leads to a spacious kitchen with plenty of storage, a modern laundry room and ½ bath, and on the north side of the house the owners built a family room addition that has lots of windows to enjoy the private gardens and stunning views of the surrounding mountains and easy access to the private patio, the circular driveway, and the detached garage and workshop with adequate supply of floored attic space.
On the 2nd floor are 2 modern baths and bedrooms with all the charm and painstaking detail seen throughout, and a bright office nook that originally was a porch, perhaps a sleeping porch for those warm summer evenings before air conditioning, and which one of the children of a previous owner, now elderly, bragged was her bedroom as a child. The custom solid oak desk / credenza also conveys with the home.
Up on the 3rd floor you will find a cozy yet spacious retreat that is filled with light from the multiple dormers and is simply a wonderful space for a media room with surround sound or extra bedroom in all seasons as the walls and ceilings are well insulated and heated/cooled by the hi-efficiency heat pump system with humidifier, media filters, and zoned dampers throughout the home that are computerized for efficiency.
Finally, the spacious double garage and workshop behind the home are a wonderful addition to this one-of-a-kind property and don't forget the enchanting gazebo and vegetable gardens beyond that.
As you can see this is a special place just as Charles Joyner envisioned it would be over 100 years ago, and the current owners have ensured that it will continue to be for the next 100 years and more. If you are interested in taking a personal tour of this special property and possibly adding to it's history, contact us today.

Western County Storm Damage
Some residents in our western counties have to move because of Thursday's storms. High winds knocked a tree onto the roof of Renada Davis' home in Sylva. The tree poked a hole through the roof over her bedroom. Concerned the damage may spreaD, her landlord is moving her and her family to the duplex next door. Davis volunteers at Sylvas Community Table. The storm caused damage there too, knocking a tree limb onto a car in the parking lot. Executive Director Amy Grimes says, It moved through very quickly. But it was very nasty. We heard sirens all over the place. So it was a little nerve-wracking. Farther west, crews cleared downed trees from roads in Swain County in the Ela community. And several trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park are closed because of scores of trees down especially in the Cosby and Big Creek areas. By Rex Hodge
