Sliding Rock, Looking Glass Falls, Blue Ridge Parkway, Rainbow Falls Near Asheville, North Carolina
Clips from our recent weekend trip to Sliding Rock, Looking Glass Falls, Rainbow Falls, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. All of these are near Asheville, North Carolina.
Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls are located within the Pisgah National Forest. There is a short hike to Sliding Rock where you can slide down a natural rock water fall into an 8 foot pool of water that ranges between 50 - 60 degrees most of the year.
Looking Glass Falls, also located in the Pisgah National Forest, is a short hike right of the main road. Visitors can get in the small pool of water underneath the falls.
Rainbow Falls is located in the Gorges State Park in southern North Carolina. The hike to Rainbow Falls is a strenuous 1.5 mile hike to the waterfall that is over 100 feet tall. Just past Rainbow Falls with an additional .25 mile hike to Turtleback Falls (not in the video). Turtleback Falls is a 20 foot waterfall where visitors can slide down a rock formation into a pool of water.
Also, in the video are clips from a drive in the Blue Ridge Parkway. Views from the Blue Ridge Parkway overlook the Pisgah National Forest.
All of these parks and waterfalls are located within an hours drive of beautiful Asheville, North Carolina.

Must Visit Waterfalls in North Carolina (Asheville, Pisgah Forest)
North Carolina has a lot to offer including all types of outdoor activities. Close to Asheville, North Carolina there are many different hiking and picnic locations in the Pisgah Forest. There are few waterfalls which are very easy to drive and hike to and are breath taking. In this video I have captured the 3 must visit water falls in North Carolina. These falls include: Looking Glass Falls, Moore Cove Falls, Sliding Rock Falls. While you are in the area make sure to also checkout the great Blue Ridge Parkway and the many scenic lookout points it has.
If you are an out door person, then Waterfalls in North Carolina are a must checkout. Most of these falls can be driven too and then are a short hike away. Not only do you get some beautiful waterfalls to checkout, the drive is very scenic!
What falls have you checked out in the Carolinas?

Sliding Rock in Pisgah National Forest, Brevard, NC
Sliding Rock is a 60-foot-long natural rock slide that empties swimmers into large pool of chilly water (50-60 degrees). The slide is fueled by 11,000 gallons of water per minute from Looking Glass Creek. The chilly pool at the base of the slide is 6 to 8 feet deep, so you need to know how to swim or wear a lifejacket. My suggestion is to put a lifejacket on anyone under the age of 10 that isn't a top-notch swimmer because the drop is quick and the water is cold. We saw plenty of barefoot and bikini-clad bozos when we visited, but the sane approach to this rocky surface is to wear shorts and water shoes. There are several observation decks and areas for anyone that wants to watch, but not experience slide.
Lifeguards are on duty and changing rooms and restrooms are open from May 27 through September 4 (10 a.m.-6 p.m.). After Labor Day, lifeguards work on weekends through mid-October. Call this hotline for last-minute info, including closure due to high water: 828-885-7625.
