Jessica Lynch -- POW PFC -- Ceremony at the Iraq War Monument
BE SURE TO WATCH THIS AGAIN WITH THE CC SUBTITLES TURNED ON, LOCATED ON THE BLACK TOOLBAR WHERE YOU ALSO EXPAND THE VIDEO TO THEATER MODE AND FULL SCREEN.
On December 13, 2015 we honored Jessica Lynch for her service during the invasion into Iraq in March 2003. She placed her own black POW tag along with her fallen best friend's, Lori Piestewa, gold tag onto the Iraq War Monument here in Cape Coral, Florida.
She is a former Prisoner of War who endured 9 days of captivity, weighing a mere 87 pounds, before being taken to Germany and finally back home to the U.S. Jessica is greatly regarded and loved in southwest Florida for all that she has had to deal with physically and psychologically for years now.
What many people don't realize are some of the details of how difficult her ordeal was. Jessica told all of us herself how she did not eat OR drink ANYTHING during those 9 days, with the exception of one time where she had a small cup of orange juice. That was it the entire time. You can believe that none of us would ever want to go through that, not even voluntarily.
In addition to this, Jessica had the misfortune of being left in a dark, abandoned building, all by herself, for a few of those days. An Iraqi ambulance that she was being transported in had been fired upon, forcing the frightened medics to leave her behind. She was eventually brought again back to the hospital after this lesser known incident she retold personally to people in Fort Myers.
Having a head wound and not always being fully alert as a result, she would often yell or scream once she realized that someone was coming near her in the hospital where she was unable to move or do anything to fend off anyone approaching her. Jessica said that she believed that she was going to die there. She STILL has nightmares of being pursued and chased to this day.
This was the most historic day ever at the Iraq War Monument. Coincidentally, this very date in history was also the same one in 2003 when Saddam Hussein was captured, with that and Jessica's captivity as a POW being the biggest headlines forever remembered during that first year of the liberation of Iraq.

Here be Dragons 2018: Track A
Sea monsters such as the kraken, prister, and rosmarus indicated uncharted territory on elaborate new maps of the world in medieval times. Despite many advances in mapping technology and data acquisition in the last 500 years, our ocean remains largely uncharted and poorly understood.
Here be Dragons convened explorers, innovators, artists, scientists, and storytellers to identify the uncharted territories that still exist in ocean exploration and storytelling. In response, MIT students will work with explorers to develop and present collaborative projects to deploy new and emerging technologies in the field that address gaps in our understanding and sharing of the ocean. Select proposals will be funded for Rapid Field Deployments.

Toronto ( (listen) tə-RON-toh) is the capital city of the province of Ontario and the largest city in Canada by population, with 2,731,571 residents in 2016. Current to 2016, the Toronto census metropolitan area (CMA), of which the majority is within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), held a population of 5,928,040, making it Canada's most populous CMA. Toronto is the anchor of an urban agglomeration, known as the Golden Horseshoe in Southern Ontario, located on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario. A global city, Toronto is a centre of business, finance, arts, and culture, and is recognized as one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world.People have travelled through and inhabited the Toronto area, situated on a broad sloping plateau interspersed with rivers, deep ravines, and urban forest, for more than 10,000 years. After the broadly disputed Toronto Purchase, when the Mississauga surrendered the area to the British Crown, the British established the town of York in 1793 and later designated it as the capital of Upper Canada. During the War of 1812, the town was the site of the Battle of York and suffered heavy damage by United States troops. York was renamed and incorporated in 1834 as the city of Toronto. It was designated as the capital of the province of Ontario in 1867 during Canadian Confederation. The city proper has since expanded past its original borders through both annexation and amalgamation to its current area of 630.2 km2 (243.3 sq mi).
The diverse population of Toronto reflects its current and historical role as an important destination for immigrants to Canada. More than 50 percent of residents belong to a visible minority population group, and over 200 distinct ethnic origins are represented among its inhabitants. While the majority of Torontonians speak English as their primary language, over 160 languages are spoken in the city.Toronto is a prominent centre for music, theatre, motion picture production, and television production, and is home to the headquarters of Canada's major national broadcast networks and media outlets. Its varied cultural institutions, which include numerous museums and galleries, festivals and public events, entertainment districts, national historic sites, and sports activities, attract over 25 million tourists each year. Toronto is known for its many skyscrapers and high-rise buildings, in particular the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere, the CN Tower. The city is home to the Toronto Stock Exchange, the headquarters of Canada's five largest banks, and the headquarters of many large Canadian and multinational corporations.
