First Remotely Piloted Aircraft Flight in Syracuse
The New York Air National Guard's 174th Attack Wing conducted their first MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) flying operation from Hancock Field Air National Guard Base and Syracuse Hancock International Airport on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. The 174th Attack Wing is the first United States Air Forceorganization in the United States to fly an RPA in class C airspace, the common airspace around commercial airports. Prior to this week, all flight operations of the MQ-9 aircraft were conducted at Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield at Fort Drum, New York.
Over the past week, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted approval for the wing to begin launch and recovery operations with the MQ-9 Reaper aircraft from Hancock Field Air National Guard Base and the Syracuse International Airport. The FAA approval follows a technical and operational review for the safe and effective takeoff and recovery of MQ-9 aircraft at Hancock Field, home to operator and maintenance training of MQ-9 crews. The FAA modified airspace around Hancock Field in 2013 to expand available training areas and provide transition from high altitude down to Hancock Field.
Flying from Hancock Field will increase student production by up to 50 percent at our Formal Training Unit (FTU), while also reducing the operational risk to unit personnel who travel to and from Fort Drum on a daily basis, said Col. Greg Semmel, 174th wing commander. Having this ability will result in a savings of over $1 million in taxpayer costs.
The 174th Attack Wing was established in 1947 as the first Air National Guard flying unit in New York State. Throughout its history, it has flown F-47 Thunderbolts, F-51 Mustangs, F-84 Thunderjets, F-86 Sabres, A-37 Dragonflies, A-10 Thunderbolts and the F-16 Fighting Falcon. It currently flies the MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft.

Unbelievable video shows passengers flying as truck crashes through bus in Syracuse
A pickup truck struck a Centro bus in Syracuse Jan. 19, 2017, lodging itself in the bus and injuring multiple people.
Video surveillance from the bus shows the truck crashing through the side of the bus and throwing a passenger forward. Centro released the surveillance footage after Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard filed a Freedom of Information Law request.
Neil Brownell, the driver of the pickup truck, exited Interstate 81 north at Park Street around 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, said the Syracuse Police Department.
Brownell then swerved into the left lane to avoid traffic near the end of the ramp, police said. The truck drove off the road and crashed into a Centro bus that was stopped on Park Street at the Farmers Market Place traffic light.
Police said several passengers were treated for minor injuries. The bus driver, Daphne Ross-Powell, 54, of Syracuse, was treated at Crouse Hospital for chest pain.
The pickup driver, Brownell, 82, of West Monroe, was not injured, police said. His wife, Jerrie Brownell, 75, of West Monroe, a passenger in his truck, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center for chest pain.
No tickets were immediately issued after the crash.

Syracuse shooting: Girl (8) youngest victim of shooting during 'family gathering'
COPS are hunting a gunman after an eight-year-old girl was among five people gunned down a family gathering in upstate New York last night.
Emergency services raced to the scene in Syracuse, New York state, shortly after 9pm local time (2am BST) where they found five people with gunshot wounds.
Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler said that the victims, who are both male and female, ranged in age from eight to 35.
He said: This is a very tragic event. We have five victims - one of which is an eight year old female - and this is something that cannot occur in our community.
There are folks out there who have information about what happened here tonight and there are a lot of people around me that are completely outraged.
They're heartbroken over this and this type of investigation deserves closure and for those people who have information, no matter how small, should contact us.
He added that there is no suspect information at this time and that all of the victims were in a stable condition.
Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh, who was also at the scene, said: “Make no mistake. This senseless violence impacts the entire community.
I'm angry, the chief is angry, the people around us is angry. We will find those responsible for this crime. This violence has to stop.
News website Syracuse.com reported that the shooting took place at a family gathering to mark the death of a person who died of cancer earlier on Thursday.
The website said ambulances were seen driving away from the scene with a police escort at about 9.15pm.
The website said that at least 10 shots had been fired in the shooting in downtown Syracuse, about 250 miles northwest of New York City.
An earlier report from fire chiefs said there were seven injured people.

Worst fire department in the United States?
I now have a second video of this crew. Please search A broken down fire truck is no good at a fire. Grants Pass Rural Fire Josephine County Oregon
Grants Pass Rural Fire Department has a problem with me posting this video because it makes them look bad. They have called the cops on me 3 times now for telephonic harassment, charges that will never be proven because I know I didn't call so I am in no way worried. It is without a doubt that they will frighten me in any way possible so that I will take this video off youtube. Two Grants Pass Police Officers have told me that posting this DISPARAGING video on youtube is not illegal.
definition of disparaging 1. To speak of in a slighting or disrespectful way; belittle. 2. To reduce in esteem or rank. ***If anybody was DISPARAGING on this video it would be the fire crew themselves.***
Part of Grants Pass Rural's problem with me based on the police report is that I have been posting photos of (GPRFD) fire vehicles on line. Well, if you check out my youtube channel you will see that I have posted several fire departments on line (Grants Pass City, Rural/Metro, illinois Valley, Crescent City, Jacksonville, Medford, Glendale, Canyonville, Roseburg, Coos Bay, Albany, Portland...) and yet no other fire department has ever complained and in all honesty I have had more compliments then anything else (THANKS COOS BAY FIRE!!!). I have also been told that I can not trespass on GPRFD property yet as far as I know i have never trespassed on any fire department property....that is unless you want to count the FDNY fire station for Engine 10 / Ladder 10 or maybe the LAFD Hollywood station (amazing stations and crews btw!).
***IF GPRFD did a perfect job on this fire then I promise you I still would have posted them on youtube. I do have dozens of good videos of other fire departments so it's not like I only film the dumb and stupid and idiotic.*** It is not my fault in any way that they, Grants Pass Rural Fire, make themselves look DISPARAGING. And on a side of caution I am not calling GPRFD dumb or stupid or idiotic, I am just simply saying that I would film the good, bad, stupid and evil.
I would like to mention that this was my friends house just up the road that caught on fire and I originally went over checking if I could help out in any way possible, I WAS IN NO WAY THINKING HOW COULD I MAKE GPRFD LOOK BAD?!?! Now I did wait on the main road for several minutes so that I could point out the correct rural driveway for a rural/metro fire engine (7505??) but other then that I could do nothing else. It was only after I knew I could do nothing more that I started filming. This video was the second time I had filmed a working structure fire (first was the FDNY in Lower Manhattan!) and if you check my youtube you will see that I have recorded many more from that point on.
ONE MORE NOTE AND THIS IS FOR THE EYES OF GPRFD's LINDA MILLER: I post more then just fire department videos. I have posted videos of dozens of concerts, parades, boat races, horse races, county fairs, festivals, air shows, animal life, PLUS New York City, Walt Disney World, President Bush (no comment), Yosemite, the film set for The Muppets on Hollywood BLVD (was amazing!), Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Hoover Dam, Golden Gate Bridge *AND* the University of Oregon Marching Band performing in the 2010 Rose Parade. HECK, SOUNDS LIKE I HAVE AN AMAZING AND VERY FULFILLING LIFE. NOW IF ONLY LINDA MILLER WOULD GET A LIFE! STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT MY VIDEO AND WASTING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S TIME AND START WORKING ON FIXING YOUR FIRE DEPARTMENT!!! WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?!?!?!?
Grants Pass Rural Fire and Grants Pass CITY Fire do not have anything in common. Also Rural/Metro Fire has nothing in common with Rural Fire. Both Grants Pass City and Rural/Metro are top of the line departments and some of the best crews in Southern Oregon.
