I'm taking a break from winter videos, here is a lost summer treat from the vault. Filmed during the summer while visiting Syracuse.
Onondaga Lake is a lake in Central New York located northwest of Syracuse, New York. The southeastern end of the lake and the southwestern shore abut industrial areas and expressways; the northeastern shore and northwestern end border a series of parks and museums.
Although it is near the Finger Lakes region, it is not traditionally counted as one of the Finger Lakes. Onondaga Lake is a dimictic lake, meaning that the lake water completely mixes from top to bottom twice a year. The lake is 4.6 miles long and 1 mile wide making a surface area of 4.6 square miles. The maximum depth of the lake is 63 feet with an average depth of 35 feet. Its drainage basin has a surface area of 642 square kilometers, encompassing Syracuse, Onondaga County except the eastern and northern edges, the southeastern corner of Cayuga County and the Onondaga Nation Territory, and supports approximately 450,000 people.
Onondaga Lake has two natural tributaries that contribute approximately 70% of the total water flow to the lake. These tributaries are: Ninemile Creek and Onondaga Creek. The Metropolitan Syracuse Wastewater Treatment Plant (METRO) contributes 20% of the annual flow. No other lake in the United States receives as much of its inflow as treated wastewater. The other tributaries, which include Ley Creek, Bloody Brook, Harbor Brook, Sawmill Creek, Tributary 5A, and East Flume, contribute the remaining 10% of water flow into the lake. The tributaries flush the lake out about four times a year. Onondaga Lake is flushed much more rapidly than most other lakes. The lake flows to the northwest and discharges into Seneca River which combines with the Oneida River to form the Oswego River, and ultimately ends up in Lake Ontario.
For thousands of years, the lake was considered sacred within indigenous territory. The historic Onondaga people lost control of the lake to New York State following the American Revolutionary War. During the late 19th century, European-Americans built many resorts along the lake's shoreline, as it was a destination of great beauty.
With the industrialization of the region, much of the lake's shoreline was developed; domestic and industrial waste, due to industry and urbanization, led to the severe degradation of the lake. Unsafe levels of pollution led to the banning of ice harvesting as early as 1901. In 1940, swimming was banned, and in 1970 fishing was banned due to mercury contamination. Mercury pollution is still a problem for the lake today. Despite the passage of the Clean Water Act in 1973 and the closing of the major industrial polluter in 1986, Onondaga Lake is still one of the most polluted lakes in the United States. Several initiatives, including a 15-year multi-stage program currently under way, have been recently undertaken to clean up the lake.

Walk Around Downtown Schenectady, New York ,USA ???????? [4K]
This is short walk in downtown Schenectady New York. I started from Entrance to Proctor Theater and walked on State street for a block and return to Proctor Interior Arcade and end the walk at the back door of Proctor Theater.
-------------------------
Proctor's Theatre (officially stylized as Proctors since 2007; however, the marquee retains the apostrophe) is a former vaudeville house located in Schenectady, New York, United States. Many famous artists have performed there, notably Mariah Carey (whose 1993 top-rated Thanksgiving special was taped there), Britney Spears, Hal Holbrook, Ted Wiles, and George Burns, as well as many others. It has one of the largest movie screens in the Northeast.
The theatre was opened on December 27, 1926. It was designed by architect Thomas Lamb. Four years later it hosted the first public demonstration of television. In 1979 the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places, shortly before being renovated after a long period of decline and neglect. A renovation completed in 2007 added two theatres to the complex, providing a variety of performance spaces.
The theater building is located on the south side of State Street (NY 5), in a densely developed commercial area. The exterior of the building and its interior arcade are included in the Register listing.
It is a three-story building with attic. The North (front) facade is faced in stucco, with engaged Doric pilasters. Ornamentation includes garlands and paterae on the friezes. A large marquee covers the sidewalk in front.[2]
Inside, the arcade that connects the entrance to the theatre features space for (originally) 14 boutiques, with five copper-framed glass windows. A marble staircase leads to the upstairs offices, and the box office and showcase are paneled in Walnut.[2]
The foyer is carpeted in red, with men's and women's smoking rooms on either side. Two more marble staircases lead to the balcony level. A pastoral mural in sepia decorates the wall. The staircases lead to a balcony promenade with an authentic Louis XV style sofa. Decoration includes Corinthian columns, iron railings and extensive gold leaf detailing.[2]
Corinthian columns also flank the proscenium arch over the stage. Gold leaf detail is all over the domed ceiling and entrance arches, in contrast to the black and silver damask wall coverings. The side loges are trimmed with iron grilles in the arches and heavy velvet drapes. Light is provided by a central black and gold chandelier with 192 lamps, flanked by six smaller fixtures.
_____________
Schenectady (/skəˈnɛktədi/[3][4]) is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 66,135. The name Schenectady is derived from a Mohawk word, skahnéhtati, meaning beyond the pines.[5][6] Schenectady was founded on the south side of the Mohawk River by Dutch colonists in the 17th century, many from the Albany area. They were prohibited from the fur trade by the Albany monopoly, which kept its control after the English takeover in 1664. Residents of the new village developed farms on strip plots along the river.
Connected to the west via the Mohawk River and Erie Canal, Schenectady developed rapidly in the 19th century as part of the Mohawk Valley trade, manufacturing and transportation corridor. By 1824 more people worked in manufacturing than agriculture or trade, and the city had a cotton mill, processing cotton from the Deep South. Numerous mills in New York had such ties with the South. Through the 19th century, nationally influential companies and industries developed in Schenectady, including General Electric and American Locomotive Company (ALCO), which were powers into the mid-20th century. Schenectady was part of emerging technologies, with GE collaborating in the production of nuclear-powered submarines and, in the 21st century, working on other forms of renewable energy.
Schenectady is in eastern New York, near the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson rivers. It is in the same metropolitan area as the state capital, Albany, which is about 15 miles (24 km) southeast.[7] In December 2014, the state announced that the city was one of three sites selected for development of off-reservation casino gambling, under terms of a 2013 state constitutional amendment. The project would redevelop an ALCO brownfield site in the city along the waterfront, with hotels, housing and a marina in addition to the casino.[

Building starts in Syracuse for the 2011 USBC Women's Championships
The Oncenter Complex in Syracuse, New York is currently in the middle of being transformed into a state-of-the-art 48 lane bowling facility that will be home of the 2011 United State Bowling Congress Women's Championships.
More than 30 truckloads of materials are being used to construct the venue, which also includes vendor and office space, a squad room, a locker area and spectator seating.
The finished product will be the biggest stage in women's bowling, and the 2011 Women's Championships is expected to bring more than 30,000 bowlers to Syracuse during its 88-day run from April 7-July 3.
The amount of lumber required for the venue is enough to construct at least five three-bedroom homes, and more than six miles of wiring is required to handle the tournament's electrical needs.
The first piece of the installation process will be the tournament's custom scoreboards. The scoreboards are comparable to the oversized screens often found in sports venues and arenas across the country, but offer a clearer picture thanks to the latest technology.
The setup also includes a 12 x 9 foot, high-definition video display screen over the tournament's traditional Center Aisle.
Construction on the 48 championship lanes is scheduled to begin February 28.

Future Infrastructures: The Over and Under of I-81
March 22, 2018 in Slocum Hall. Presented by City Scripts and City Symposia.
The symposium is the second in a series, made possible by a unique partnership between two internationally prominent colleges at Syracuse University, the School of Architecture and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. The partners believe their collaboration will insure that policy and design are at the forefront when confronting the challenges facing cities in the United States and around the world.
The goal of the symposium is to create an ongoing, interdisciplinary and applied dialogue that reaches beyond the university and, ultimately, influences both policy and design.
Future Infrastructures: The Over and Under of I-81 will focus on the choices for renovating or re-routing the I-81 elevated highway in Syracuse, New York from both urban design and public policy perspectives. This challenge facing the city engages a range of interdisciplinary issues and is emblematic of similar infrastructural questions confronting cities across world.
