Distorted Cold Temperature Records in the Media | Mini Ice Age 2015-2035 (24)
Many of the temperature cold records being reported are being compared with the last most recent records, not the 100-140 year range to make it appear as the cooling in in the 30-50 year range. Data is also not being updated in national and state record low temperature archives and databases. This video shows a few examples and explains the hodgepodge and year mis-matches in such data.

Fans from the United States expressed disappointment after American snowboarder Shaun White failed in his quest to win his third consecutive gold medal on Tuesday in the men's halfpipe.
White, the best snowboarder of his era and one of the best-known and best-marketed athletes at the Winter Olympics, didn't even win a medal.
He finished fourth in Sochi losing to Iouri Podladtchikov of Switzerland who took gold and Ayumu Hirano and Taku Hiraoka of Japan, who won silver and bronze respectively.
It's the first time the Americans haven't taken home a medal in the halfpipe since the sport was introduced at the Olympics in 1998.
Yes, I mean, we were going in there thinking he was taking home gold, so a little disappointing but it's the nature of the sport, said one American spectator, Anthony Ascione.
Disappointing for the Americans, but it was great runs by the Swiss and the Japanese, and it was a wonderful event, said another American fan, Jeff Lyons.
Podladtchikov, known as the I-Pod, landed the trick he invented, a 1440-degree whirling jump he nicknamed the Yolo jump.
The guy they call I-pod (Iouri Podladtchikov) had a really fantastic run, said Kirk Sanford, Olympic spectator from Atlanta, Georgia.
White tried that jump twice but flat-out fell once and couldn't land it cleanly the second time.
27-year-White opted out of the Olympic slopestyle debut last week so he could concentrate on the halfpipe.

THE CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR RAILROAD TRAIN FILM VISTA DOME ADVENTURE 70922
The Burlington Route, Rio Grande, and Western Pacific Railroads produced this tourism promotional film in the 1950's to highlight the California Zephyr luxury train, running between Chicago and San Francisco. The California Zephyr (the CZ, or Silver Lady) was a passenger train operated by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q), Denver & Rio Grande Western (D&RGW) and Western Pacific railroads, all which dubbed it the most talked about train in America on March 19, 1949, with the first departure the following day. It was scheduled to pass through the most spectacular scenery on its route in the daylight. The original train ceased operation in 1970, though the D&RGW continued to operate its own passenger service, the Rio Grande Zephyr, between Salt Lake City and Denver using the original equipment until 1983. Since 1983 the California Zephyr name has been applied to the Amtrak service, which operates daily and is a hybrid of the route of the original Zephyr and its former rival, the City of San Francisco.
The original California Zephyr operated over the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad from Chicago to Denver, Colorado, the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad between Denver and Salt Lake City, Utah, and the Western Pacific Railroad from Salt Lake City to Oakland, California. Cars owned by different railroads ran together; cars cycled in and out for service, repairs, and varying passenger loads with the seasons.
The first train was named in San Francisco by Eleanor Parker while California Lieutenant Governor Goodwin Knight, mayor of San Francisco Elmer Robinson, and WP President Harry A. Mitchell looked on. For the inaugural run in 1949, every female on the train was given silver and orange orchids flown from Hilo, Hawaii. The car hostesses were known as Zephyrettes.[3]:68
In summer 1954 the schedule for 2,532 miles Chicago to San Francisco was 50hr 50min. An eastbound California Zephyr through Ruby Canyon saw the train's first birth on March 1, 1955, when Reed Zars was born.
The Zephyr was not immune to falling passenger travel in the 1960s. The Western Pacific applied to discontinue its portion in 1966 but the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) refused after public outcry. The D&RGW made the same request in 1969 and in 1970 the ICC permitted Western Pacific to end its portion, provided the D&RGW and Burlington provide some semblance of [service] between Chicago and Ogden, Utah. The last westbound California Zephyr to the west coast left Chicago on March 22, 1970 and arrived in Oakland two days later. The California Zephyr had operated for 21 years and 2 days. East of Salt Lake City the train was reduced to a tri-weekly schedule, operating as California Service on the Burlington and as the Rio Grande Zephyr on the Rio Grande. The Rio Grande portion of the train was extended beyond Salt Lake to Ogden, Utah, allowing Nevada and California passengers to connect to the Southern Pacific Railroad's City of San Francisco. This continued until the creation of Amtrak on May 1, 1971.
The brainchild of Velma McPeek, the Burlington's Supervisor of Passenger Train Services, the Zephyettes were train hostesses who performed a wide variety of roles, from tour guide to first aid responder to babysitter. After debuting on the Denver Zephyr in 1936, they served on the California Zephyr from 1949 until it was discontinued in 1970. Described by former Zephyrette Julie Ann Lyman as the railroad's answer to the air line stewardess, the various duties of the position included welcoming passengers, making announcements, sending telegrams, making dinner reservations, and generally serving as a liaison between the train's passengers and its crew. At any one time, there were 10 or 11 Zephyrettes who were actively employed. When Amtrak revived the California Zephyr in 1983 it invited a former Zephyrette, Beulah Bauman, to christen the train.
A pair of the Western Pacific's Budd Rail Diesel Cars (RDCs), replacements for the Royal Gorge (trains No. 1 and 2), also picked up the name Zephyrette. From September 15, 1950 to October 2, 1960, they were in service between Oakland, California, and Salt Lake City, a distance of 924 miles (1,487 km),[8] which made the route the longest RDC service in the United States

Colorado food bank helps strapped federal workers
(12 Jan 2019) The Food Bank of the Rockies has set up emergency food distribution sites to help furloughed federal workers deal with missing their first paycheck.
Thousands of federal employees missed their first paycheck Friday as the government shutdown entered its fourth week.
We're not surprised that people would need help because everyone's situation is different. And not everyone makes the same amount of money and a lot of people live paycheck to paycheck. And that's pretty serious when you talk about child care. You have a mortgage making a grocery bill, phone bill. I mean it really adds up, said Megan Floyd-Ulrick, a furloughed FEMA worker who volunteers at the food bank. It's just such a hard time and it's so hard to to move forward when you miss a paycheck. If that's how you live. So certainly we've been thinking about our co-workers and colleagues across the federal government.
Cait Barnett, a marketing specialist the food bank that serves Colorado and parts of Wyoming, said 75 percent of visitors to a food pantry Friday were there for the first time and were furloughed federal employees.
Barnett said the only thing people need to bring is something to carry the food home.

SANTA FE RAILROAD 1950s WESTERN USA TRAVEL FILM 46004
Support Our Channel :
The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company presents “Along the Santa Fe Trail,” a 1950s-era color film promoting travel by train. The film opens with a colorful array of travel brochures and schedules spread across a table at mark 00:28 before offering a montage of potential destinations across the United States — from snowcapped to beaches, from bustling urban areas to wide open spaces, from factories to farmland — there are “twin bands of steel” that carry the “lifeblood of America” across the country as a train is shown speeding down the track at mark 01:35. No matter where the viewer wishes to visit on vacation, the narrator explains (near mark 02:00) that there is probably a Santa Fe ticket office nearby to help get them there, as the scene carries the viewer inside one typical office and “Mr. Ticketman” offers a “charming lady” some destination choices. To get there, a passenger has a choice of trains from the company’s diesel-powered fleet, including the Golden Gate train which serves the West Coast or El Capitan which offers service between Chicago and Los Angeles. The San Diegan takes travels from Los Angeles to San Diego several times daily, while the Grand Canyon Limited and Texas Chief, the Chief, and the Super Chief offers various cross-country options. Mark 03:20 takes the viewer onboard one of Santa Fe’s lounge and dining cars as the narrator explains the various amenities provided to the weary traveler. “There is a train and an accommodation for your every comfort,” he reminds the viewer at mark 05:43.
The film continues by taking its viewer to some scenic locales, focusing on Native Americans of the desert Southwest and northern New Mexico, in addition to parks and national monuments such as the Painted Desert or Petrified Forest National Park in northern Arizona (introduced at mark 09:00). Those locations are followed by scenes at Carlsbad Caverns and then to the hustle of Denver (at mark 10:37) — “the metropolis of the Rocky Mountain empire” — as well as Colorado Springs. From there we visit Phoenix, the Rainbow Bridge National Monument in Page, Arizona (mark 14:22), and Aztec ruins before visiting the awe-inspiring sites of Monument Valley at mark 15:00 and Grand Canyon at mark 15:28. Yosemite National Park is visited at mark 19:10, as the film continues to show the viewer a variety of natural wonders, including the warm beaches and other tourist spots of Southern California (shown starting at mark 19:30). Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade takes center stage in the film beginning at mark 21:32, followed by a visit to Hollywood (mark 22:11), as we see Hollywood Boulevard and the Hollywood Bowl, and visit the stars’ homes in nearby Palm Springs while saying hello to child star Jackie “Butch” Jenkins at mark 22:51.The film ends with a look at the Intertribal Indian Festival in Gallup, New Mexico, starting at mark 23:50.

This week on The Aaron Harber Show:
For his seventh appearance on the show, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper reveals what he believes his Administration’s accomplishments have been and what else he hopes to achieve before his term end in January of 2019. He answers some of the criticisms that Republican Primary Gubernatorial candidates had for him in their own, separate interviews with Aaron when they accused Hickenlooper of reigning over a poor Economy (Hickenlooper points out Colorado’s Economy was ranked #1 in the nation multiple times) and made other similar complaints . The Governor posits how impactful his Administration has been over the last seven years in solving critical issues ranging from transportation challenges to the astounding reduction in teen pregnancies and teen abortions (i.e., by over 60%). Hickenlooper also discusses his thoughts about running for President of the United States as well as what his decision process and timing will be. More personally, Hickenlooper shares insight he gained from Jerry Brown, the Governor of California, about managing his time wisely, which occurred when they met privately at the California Capitol. The Governor also gives his advice for anyone elected into an executive leadership position in government.

1947 AMERICAN RAILROADING PROMOTIONAL FILM A WHISTLE IN THE NIGHT 24084
Created in 1947 by the Association of American Railroads, A Whistle in the Night takes a look at post-war American railroads during their conversion to peace. During the war, frantic efforts to move freight resulted in a huge maintenance backlog, and railroads at the close of the conflict found themselves operating under the handicap of little to no new equipment. The film looks past this era at the plans for the future, with swifter, safer and more comfortable traveling for the American public. Unfortunately, the advent of cheap air travel and bus service meant that the era of passenger service on America's railroads would be short-lived.
The film contains terrific shots of post-WWII railroads with a mix of steam and diesel locomotives, and the GG-1 electric locomotive also shown. Delivery of mail, freight, and passengers is seen, and you'll see all the logistics that go into moving all these goods and people.

§ 107 . Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use40
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include—
(1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
(2) the nature of the copyrighted work;
(3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
(4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.
