Porec (Croatia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Porec in Croatia.
Poreć is picturesquely situated on a peninsula in the north of Croatia‘s Istrian coast. At first glance it appears to be a typical holiday paradise visited by thousands of tourists each year but its Town Hall offers a hint of its historic past, the traditional style of Venetian Renaissance. In 1267, Poreć, as Istria’s first city, was affiliated to the Serenissima and with the subsequent construction of palaces, squares and religious buildings, it soon took on a Venetian appearance which has remained until the present day. The harbour’s traditional buildings date back to the time of the fall of Venice and when the city came under Austrian rule. In Roman times the Old Town had an efficient road network. Poreć’s main street, Decumanus, divides various groups of buildings of dominant Gothic design. In 539 A.D. the city came under the rule of the Byzantines who founded a bishopric there in around about 800 A.D.Between 539 A.D. and 553 A.D. Bishop Euphrasius had a basilica built on the foundations of several earlier buildings, an Early Byzantine masterpiece and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Poreć is a little gem with a great history and culture and even now, Pearl Of The Adriatic!

Istria (Slovenia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
The Slovenian-Croatian peninsula of Istria is one of Europe‘s oldest settlement areas, the Pearl Of Adria with an eventful history and much multicultural flair; a rich interface between both Mediterranean and mediaeval cultures. In Koper, Istria’s economic centre and most important harbour city, the Old Town can be entered through the last remaining twelve gates of the city’s former defensive wall. In its heyday the city boomed with wine, oil, salt and fish and many merchants and craftsmen from Italy settled there and the Palazzo Belgramoni Tacco became the region‘s museum. The mediaeval town of Piran is located on a narrow promontory that juts out into Piran Bay like the bow of a ship. On a cliff above the old town is the Sanct George Church, and a bell tower on the town’s fortified walls provides a splendid view of the mainland, a maze of roof tops and the main square. Travelling further south, Poreć is picturesquely situated on a peninsula and City Hall reveals much of its history. In 1267, Poreć, as Istria’s first city, was affiliated to the Serenissima and palaces, squares and religious buildings were constructed. In the fertile countryside lies yet another Istrian gem, Hum, the ‘smallest town in the world’ with its well-preserved gate, cobblestones and single lane. Portorož is the only real resort on the Slovenian Riviera with several hotels lining its waterfront and since the Danube Monarchy it has been a fashionable meeting place of the elite of Central Europe. Istria is a beauty with many faces, a rediscovered Adria dream and an almost forgotten paradise.

Visit Korčula - Ett perfekt resmål för semester i Kroatien
Korčula enchants the senses with its timeless beauty and casts an everlasting spell of wonder on those who tread upon its ancient stone. Its historic traditions, such as the Moreška Sword Dance and the Kumpanija and the Moštra in villages Čara, Pupnat and Žrnovo as well as exsisting the Fraternities, run deep in the soul of the island and continue to bind the community. 'Tanac' is a traditional dance only performed at weddings in Račišće.
Immerse yourself in Korčula's hidden alleys and discover adorned palaces and elegant houses;, while in the evening, follow the fading light to reveal a glorious Adriatic sunset.
The historic centre of the island is built on a small peninsula which narrows the passage between the island and the mainland to 1270 metres. The obvious potential for controlling shipping along the eastern coast of the Adriatic at this point was the reason for the foundation of a fortified town. It developed rapidly from its 13th c. beginnings when its statute was proclaimed and when the ducal Venetian Zorzi family arrived and Marco Polo was travelling. The town's towers and ramparts were built higher and stronger and the houses and churches loftier and more elegant. The town was at the peak of its might in the 16th c. when it could accommodate 6000 inhabitants.
In 1871, the city walls and towers were pulled down for the following reason: the War Ministry of Vienna informed the town authorities in 1863 that it was returning the upkeep of the towers and city walls to the town as they were no longer deemed necessary and that it would not pay to maintain them any more. The Town Council responded by pulling down the greater part of the city walls, except the southern part and by pulling down three of the towers. Between the Zakrjan Tower and Rampada or Rampart (the modern name for the remnants of All Saints Tower of 1493), there were another two towers pulled down in the 19th c.: the Parilo tower and the Tower of the New Gate. The walls and the foundations of an older tower - The Small Tower of All Saints, pulled down in 1879 - are visible today on the same Rampada.
CULTURAL HERITAGE
Lođa - Korčula
The street known as 'Ulica javne dobrotvornosti' (Charity Street) leading off the square, is the only Korčula street without steps and is therefore referred to as the Street of Thinkers. The only private street in Korčula extends to the west, opposite the church. The town prince would use it to enter court and he would descend to the sea and his private pier, where the town galley was at his disposal.
Lođa, the town loggia from 1548 was for centuries the only building outside the town walls and had various uses - from a police and customs control office to a travellers' waiting room and tourist office.
St Marks Cathedral
The Cathedral of St. Mark's is a Gothic-Renaissance building which was built from the end of the 15th c., mostly by Korčulan masters and from local stone from the islands of Vrnik and Kamenjak. Three apses bear witness to the existence of an earlier church. Its first builder was the Korčulan Hranić Dragošević, followed by Ratko Ivančić; but the cathedral was finally completed by a genial artist, the best known of Korčula's medieval builders, Marko Andrijić (died 1507). The portal with the lions and St. Mark was built by the master Bonino da Milano in 1412. He designed the door on the south aisle with the figure of St. Jacob and the portal with the figure of St. Peter of the St. Peter′s church. Marko Andrijić created the glorious rosette, the wreath and the belfry and the ciborium above the main altar as his master-piece.
Psephizma Lumbarda
The Psephisma from Lumbarda is stone tablet wich describes the foundation of the Greek settlement in the 4th c. B.C. The copy is exhibited on the Korčula Town museum ground-floor. This fragmented inscription describes in old Greek the agreement concluded between the Greek settlers from the island of Issa (Vis) with the local Illyrian leaders. It obliges settlers to absolute loyalty and includes a list of 180 preserved names immigrant families.
In Vela Luka, 47 km distance from Korčula town, in Vela Luka Cultural Centre, among archaeological collection, Neolithic collection and ethnographic collection there is an outstanding sculpture by the great Henry Moore.

It is a bunch of old bricks on the top of the mountain. What's the alternative? It is a place to commemorate the Balkan Wars that remained in our memories of the past. We go down to the basement along the entrance and huge exhibits wait for the pilgrims. The history of tragedy is a must to trace. What the hell was going on here that day? A large part of the beautiful Dubrovnik city of this time, the Yugo civil war, known as the most devastating war since the Cold War era, was destroyed. In the ruined city area, a young soldier with guns against foreign powers, a city of bloodshed with racial and ethnic conflict, was filled with despair. The sacrifices of innocent civilians followed, especially the stories of children who were victims of the war. The precious loss of life that the winds of war drove has left a big hurt to the citizens here. Dubrovnik was listed on UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites in crisis, and the city was rebuilt. So, Dubrovnik is the most beautiful world cultural heritage. Someday I think it's time for me to keep my country's status. For Croatia, this war happened about 20 years ago. Through this history, we should learn lessons and hope that war will not happen again. It is a country with a beautiful city. I would like to see some people in Croatia as well as Americans. I hope the war will not happen again. I looked around the war museum and saw it again. I pray that no terrible tragedy will ever happen again in this city where beauty and pain of the past cross.

Bajkovita Hrvatska - Dioklecijanova palača - Split
Diocletian's Palace is an ancient palace built by the Roman emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD, that today forms the center of the city of Split. While it is referred to as a palace because of its intended use as the retirement residence of Diocletian, the term can be misleading as the structure is massive and more resembles a large fortress: about half of it was for Diocletian's personal use, and the rest housed the military garrison.
Diocletian built the massive palace in preparation for his retirement on 1 May 305 AD. It lies in a bay on the south side of a short peninsula running out from the Dalmatian coast, four miles from Salona, the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia. The terrain slopes gently seaward and is typical karst, consisting of low limestone ridges running east to west with marl in the clefts between them.
After the Romans abandoned the site, the Palace remained empty for several centuries. In the 7th century, nearby residents fled to the walled palace in an effort to escape invading Slavs. Since then the palace has been occupied, with residents making their homes and businesses within the palace basement and directly in its walls. Today many restaurants and shops, and some homes, can still be found within the walls.
After the Middle Ages the palace was virtually unknown in the West until the Scottish neo-classical architect Robert Adam had the ruins surveyed and, with the aid of French artist and antiquary Charles-Louis Clérisseau and several draughtsmen, published Ruins of the Palace of the Emperor Diocletian at Spalatro in Dalmatia (London, 1764)
Diocletian's palace was an inspiration for Adam's new style of Neoclassical architecture and the publication of measured drawings brought it into the design vocabulary of European architecture for the first time. A few decades later, in 1782, the French painter Louis-François Cassas created drawings of the palace, published by Joseph Lavallée (fr) in 1802 in the chronicles of his voyages.
This palace is today, with all the most important historical buildings, in the centre of the city of Split. Diocletian's Palace far transcends local importance because of its degree of preservation. The Palace is one of the most famous and complete architectural and cultural features on the Croatian Adriatic coast. As the world's most complete remains of a Roman palace, it holds an outstanding place in Mediterranean, European and world heritage.
In November 1979 UNESCO, in line with the international convention on cultural and natural heritage, adopted a proposal that the historic city of Split built around the Palace should be included in the register of World Cultural Heritage.
In November 2006 the City Council decided to permit over twenty new buildings within the palace (including a shopping and garage complex), despite the fact that the palace had been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Monument. It is said that this decision was politically motivated and largely due to lobbying by local property developers. Once the public in 2007 came aware of the project, they petitioned against the decision and won. No new buildings, shopping center or the underground garage was built.
The World Monuments Fund has been working on a conservation project at the palace, including surveying structural integrity and cleaning and restoring the stone and plasterwork.
The palace is depicted on the reverse of the Croatian 500 kuna banknote, issued in 1993.

ACI marina DUBROVNIK 2017
About Marina
In the south of Dalmatia, where the string of Adriatic islands ends and the open sea begins, at the foothills of Srđ hill lies the pearl of the Adriatic, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the 7th century. The city of Dubrovnik, which offers a surpassingly rich cultural heritage and a bewildering array of visitor services, houses one of the most beautiful marinas in the Adriatic, a mere 6 km from the city centre.
For 15 years in a row ACI Marina Dubrovnik has been awarded the Blue Flag for its perfectly clean sea, and has been declared the best marina in the Adriatic (in the 250-450 berth (mooring) category) in the “Flower of Tourism – Quality for Croatia” competition for three consecutive years (2010-2012).
It is one of the safest marinas to berth (mooring), keep and maintain your vessel in. All year round it provides shelter for 380 boats in wet berths and 140 in dry berths, and can accommodate mega yachts up to 60 metres long.
Golf in ACI marina Dubrovnik: the unique project ACI Golf Range from July 2017!
The coastal area of the Dubrovnik region, comprising the islands of Korčula, Mljet, Lastovo and the Elaphite archipelago, as well as the Pelješac peninsula, makes ACI Marina Dubrovnik an ideal starting point for a complete boating adventure.
The cuisine of the region, with its Mediterranean, Oriental and Continental influences, will provide unforgettable gastronomic delights for even the most demanding of palates, while visitors’ thirst for activity holidays will be quenched by numerous sports activities which can be enjoyed here – from diving and exploring Dubrovnik’s undersea world and protected underwater archaeological sites, to tennis, free-climbing, and exciting adventures in Prevlaka Park.
Did you know…?
…that at the entrance to the Rector’s Palace (Knežev Dvor), the most important public building in Dubrovnik, which used to house the Republic’s government and its Rector, one can read the indicative inscription Obliti privatorum publica curate (“Forget private affairs, take care of public ones”).
…that the Dubrovnik Summer Festival traditionally opens with a performance of the “Ode to Liberty,” with lyrics by 17th-century Dubrovnik poet Ivan Gundulić and music by 20th-century composer Jakov Gotovac.
…that the last flash of Dubrovnik’s independence flared in 1813 during a short-lived uprising against French rule. The uprising, led by Đivo de Natali, ended with the entry of Austrian troops.

The ACI marina is located at the end of the Rijeka (“river”) Dubrovačka inlet, whose width varies between 170 and 400 metres all the way to the easily identifiable monastery in the village of Rožat. The landmark to be used when approaching the mouth of Rijeka Dubrovačka is the islet of Daksa, which can be rounded from any side. On the northern cape of the islet there is a lighthouse (Fl W 6s 7m 10M). The exact position of the lighthouse is 42°40.2’ N 18°03.5’ E. The entrance to the mouth of Rijeka Dubrovačka is marked by a lighthouse on Cape Kantafig (Fl R G 2s 8m 4M). The route following the riverbed leads to the Mokošica lighthouse (Fl R 3s 6m 4M) and on to ACI Marina Dubrovnik. From Rožat the inlet becomes narrower and shallower. The water depth is 3-5 metres. The marina it is protected from river currents by a long breakwater, and at night it is floodlit.

Stockholm Vacation Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
The Swedish capital, ‘the Northern Venice’ is a remarkably beautiful city, which is surrounded by clear water, while nature reaches into the heart of it. During the almost 800 years history of the city many beautiful buildings were constructed and a rich cultural heritage was left behind. Many events and museums await the tourists. In the Gamla Stan, the Old Town, the houses surrounding the Royal Palace were built in the 13th-18th century. The squares are surrounded by romantic palaces and gothic temples. The Nobel prizes are given away here at the City Hall, while the party afterwards is being held in the modern inner city, in the Konserthuset. Djurgarden island is famous of its Vasa Museum where one can take a look at a 17th century boat lifted out of the sea and then renovated. Not far away from there is the first open-air museum of the world, which shows us the rural Swedish architecture on 30 acres. One can take boat trips on the lakes and canals surrounding the city further to the castles of Skokloster and Gripsholm and to the old university town of Uppsala.

Split Croatia Apartment Tour ???????? Remote Year Apartment ???? Split Croatia Beach Apartment
In today's Croatia travel vlog, I share a Split Croatia Apartment Tour of my Split Croatia Beach Apartment. My Split Croatia apartment is next to Znjan beach. If you check a Split Croatia travel guide it'll tell you that Znjan beach is the longest beach in Split and just east of Old Town Split Croatia. It's currently be renovated but is stunning even with all the construction.
My Croatia beach apartment is about a 10 minute drive east of Old Town Split Croatia. This is a Remote Year apartment provided to me as part of my travel program. You can find a similar apartment on Airbnb for around $450-700 a month.
I was here in November which is an offseason time. So I pretty much had the beautiful beaches and sunsets to myself. If you want more of a party vibe though - make sure you come here before the end of October.
If you travel Split make sure you take a tour of Diocletian's Palace. It's amazing that you can still rent an apartment in a Roman Emperors former retirement crib.

Roman Monuments of Trier - UNESCO World Heritage Site
The UNESCO World Heritage site of Trier, in the far west of Germany, just a stone's throw from Luxembourg, lays claim to being the oldest city in the country. It was founded as a Roman military encampment, and due to its strategic position on the Rhine it became one of the most important cities in the Empire (after only Rome, the eastern capital in Constantinople, and the Egyptian capital in Alexandria). There's a great legacy of buildings here, including bathhouses, fortifications, an amphitheatre, throne room and a bridge, though several buildings were closed due to snow and ice on the day we visited. But it was still a lot of fun!
