Places to see in ( Minneapolis - USA )
Minneapolis is a major city in Minnesota that forms Twin Cities with the neighboring state capital of St. Paul. Bisected by the Mississippi River, it's known for its parks and lakes. Minneapolis is also home to many cultural landmarks like the Walker Art Center, a contemporary art museum, and the adjacent Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, famed for Claes Oldenburg's Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture.
Minneapolis is the biggest and artiest town on the prairie, with all the trimmings of progressive prosperity – swank art museums, rowdy rock clubs, organic and ethnic eateries and edgy theaters. It's always happenin', even in winter. And here's the bonus: folks are attitude-free and the embodiment of 'Minnesota Nice.' Count how many times they tell you to 'Have a great day,' come rain or shine or snow.
Districts of Minneapolis :
Downtown
The central business district, major sports and theater venues, the city's main clubbing area in the Warehouse District, Loring Park, Elliot Park, and the historic mill ruins along the Mississippi.
South
West Bank, Seward, Midtown, Nokomis, Longfellow, and Minnehaha Park
Southwest
Uptown, Lyn-Lake, Linden Hills, Eat Street, and the Chain of Lakes
North
Near North, Camden, Bryn Mawr and Theodore Wirth Park.
Northeast
The birthplace of Minneapolis in Old Saint Anthony, old victorian houses on Nicollet Island, and further north the old working class enclaves of Northeast that are now home to a growing artist community.
Southeast
Dinkytown, Prospect Park, Como, and the University of Minnesota
Towering glass skyscrapers, stunning blue lakes and rivers, tree canopied city streets, premier shopping, state of the art cuisine and entertainment, and a modern transportation network and infrastructure characterize this rapidly growing city and justify its identity as the upper midwest's premier (if not only) metropolis.
Minneapolis was destined to be a center of commerce due to its location at the Falls of St. Anthony, which was named by the French explorer Fr. Louis Hennepin in 1680. St. Anthony Falls is by far the largest source of water power on the Mississippi River. The falls were harnessed to power lumber mills in the 1840s and later for flour milling. By 1870, Minneapolis on the west bank and St. Anthony on the east bank formed the largest flour producing center in the world. In 1872, Minneapolis absorbed its older neighbor. Most of the old St Anthony township is now known as Northeast Minneapolis. A small part of the old township comprises most of the current suburb of St. Anthony

Theodore Wirth Park to Host 2020 Cross Country Ski World Cup
Elite athletes will once again cast their eyes on Minnesota for the 2020 Cross Country Ski World Cup. Organizers say it will be the first World Cup on U.S. soil in 18 years. The event will be called Parallel 45 Winter Festival because the 45th parallel running through Theodore Wirth Park. The event is scheduled for March 2020.
“Eyes on Minnesota”
Move over Superbowl 52, Ryder Cup and Final Four….there’s a new event coming to town that will also attract world-class athletes. Thursday, a group of organizers announced Parallel 45 Winter Festival, which features the 2020 Cross Country Ski World Cup.
“The thing that’s so exciting about this and why Explore Minnesota is glad to support this event, it it’s promoting an activity and event that people can do in every part of the state,” said John Edman, executive director of Explore Minnesota. “The eyes of the world are going to be on Minnesota.”
For the first time in 18 years, the World Cup will be back in the U.S. The event will take place in Theodore Wirth Park, which has a revamped trailhead facility. The Loppet Foundation was awarded a spot on the International Ski Federation (FIS) calendar for March of 2020.
Organizers named the event Parallel 45 Winter Festival. The title is a tribute to cross country skis and the fact that the 45th parallel runs right through Theodore Wirth Park.
“It shows off what Minnesota is about,” says Dan Florness, CEO of Fastenal, which is the title sponsor for the event. “It also shows we are willing to invest and what type of atmosphere we have here in Minnesota, the Twin Cities and here in Golden Valley.”
Organizers tipped their hat to Minnesota’s Jessie Diggins and her partner, Kikkan Randall for their inspiration and support in making this happen. The duo won the U.S.’s first gold medal in the sport in the previous Olympic games.

Wirth Park is getting a new look
Changes are coming to Theodore Wirth Regional Park in Golden Valley and Minneapolis.
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has given the green light to some improvements that will include new building construction and golf course changes.
We're going to have a great product going forward, said Keith Kalny of the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Department.
Next spring construction starts on a new Adventure and Welcome Center, and the golf course will be tweaked. The buildings tab will be $3.45 million, paid for by the Loppet Foundation.
They've done an incredible job, Kalny said, Raising funds, donations and what not to fund this building.
What is currently the 17th green will disappear and eventually become the new Welcome Center. The 14,000 square foot
one-story facility will cater to bikers, joggers, cross country skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers and golfers.
I'm a writer so I come out here every day to think, said Janet Anderson of Robbinsdale. Yeah I love it.
Wirth Park is an oasis of green, a 759 acre footprint smack dab in the middle of the sprawling Twin Cities.
2016 is the park's centennial year and the improvements are welcomed by regular park users.
Yeah, I am excited to hear the news, Anderson said. I'm glad that somebody's looking at it. I think that our part of town sometimes seems a little bit forgotten, and it's such a beautiful stretch of land. I'm glad somebody is thinking about keeping it up.
There will also be some tinkering with the golf course as a few holes on the back nine will get a makeover.
We're re–doing 17 and 18, Kalny said.
If the quality is good and they do a good job with it, it's obviously exciting, said Jon Mielke of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, who plays the Wirth course about four times year. I look forward to it. I would probably come a few more times.
The new Adventure and Welcome Center's schematic design includes indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, a fitness and training room, and bike and ski rentals.

50 Reasons: Minneapolis Is The Bike Capital Of America
An original production by GearJunkie.com and Twin Cities filmmaker Erik Nelson (eriknelson.co), '50 Reasons' stakes a claim that Minneapolis is the bike capital of America. Wirth Lake removed from state's impaired waters list
Wirth Lake sits on the edge of Golden Valley and Minneapolis. In the past few years, the lake and the area surrounding it have undergone a transformation.
The beach and the playground and all the bike paths, it's a nice spot, said Amy Long of Minneapolis.
But recently, it's undergone another transformation. Since 2002, Wirth Lake had been on the state's impaired water's list. Now, after 12 years, it no longer has that distinction.
Wirth Lake is a success story, aid Rachael Crabb, a water resources supervisor with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. It was a lake that had elevated nutrients, algae blooms.
The Bassett Creek Watershed Management Commission, city of Golden Valley, city of Minneapolis, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency led an effort to reduce the lake's phosphorous levels.
For example, retention ponds have been constructed around Wirth Lake, which act as natural filters to prevent any impurities such as phosphorous from going into the lake itself. It all means clearer water.
That's good, Amy Long said with a laugh. That's what we're hoping for.
It's wonderful, it's beautiful, said Raymond He of Minneapolis. I'll never leave here.
The positive feedback is music to the ears of those who manage the area.
Even five years ago, there weren't this many people enjoying Wirth Lake on a daily basis, Crabb said. It's just a great transformation of an urban lake.
According to the Bassett Creek Watershed Management Commission, Wirth Lake's average summer water transparency in 1992 was just under four feet. Today, it's about 10 feet.
