CRASH! SAILBOAT HIT BY POWERBOAT in the Chesapeake Bay. Who caused the collision?
A 35-foot J/105 sailboat, the LEVIATHAN, was struck on its beam by the 37-foot charter fishing boat, the HUNTER, in the Chesapeake Bay. The boats were owned by the Chesapeake Bay Boating Club of Eastport near Annapolis, Maryland and Chesapeake Bay Fishing Charters.
The Anne Arundel County Fire Department, Maryland Natural Resources Police, and the the U.S. Coast Guard helped separate the boats. The Maryland Natural Resources Police took the amazing footage of the incident. The boats collided between Thomas Point Park and Kent Island.

Baltimore, Maryland: 2019's Best Views Drone Video
Fort McHenry is the pentagonal bastion fort in the Baltimore, Maryland, Locust Point district. It is a national treasure, because it successfully defended Baltimore Harbor from an attack by the British navy from the Chesapeake Bay on September 13, 1814. The next morning, the fort flew a 30x42 feet American garrison flag, signaling victory and inspiring Francis Scott Key to write the poem 'Defense of Fort M'Henry' which was set to the tune 'To Anacreon of Heaven'. The song went on to be called 'The Star Spangled Banner' and now serves as the National Anthem of the United States. Today, thousands of tourists visit this historic site to see the real original flag which was hoisted in 1814 to signal America’s victory.
Baltimore's Inner Harbor is a historic neighborhood and seaport hailed as the model for post-industrial waterfront redevelopment around the world, in 2009 by Urban Land Institute. The economic devastation from World War Two left this area littered with abandoned factories and warehouses through the 1950s. A decade of initiatives from Mayors Thomas D'Alesandro and Theodore McKeldon revitalized the district by replacing the dilapidation with waterfront parks and surrounding hotels and business headquarters. Today, it is a bastion of culture with music and art, recreation and sailing.
The 71,000 seat M&T Bank Stadium is home to the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. It was built in 1999 with a price-tag of 220 million and features statues honoring legends Johnny Unitas and Ray Lewis. The 46,000 seat Orioles Park at Camden Yards is home to the MLB's Baltimore Orioles. It was built in 1992 for $110 million and, instead of destroying the B&O Warehouse it replaced, this building was incorporated into the design. Here, Cal Ripken Jr played his 2,131st consecutive game and Eddie Murray hit his 500th home run.
This one-acre museum housing more than 67,000 square feet of exhibition space features more than 4,000 permanent pieces of ‘outsider art’. It is an American icon. The museum’s founder, Rebecca Hoffberger, converted this shuttered copper paint factory and whiskey warehouse into a cultural mecca of art brut. It is now designated as America’s National Museum for Self-taught Art by the U.S. Congress. AVAM hosts annual mega-exhibitions which bring together artists from all across the United States and abroad to showcase absolutely unique expression pieces centered around a grand-theme.

Holiday Tree Lighting 2018
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. At least outside the Naval Academy Alumni Association House on College Avenue, that is. The 70-foot cedar tree that adorns the front lawn of the house was lit 27 November in front of invited guests and local residents.
At this year's event, guests were treated to carols by the All Children's Chorus of Annapolis. Chester Midshipmouse book signing by Susan Weisberg; a visit by Santa and his elf.
Gavin Buckley, Mayor of Annapolis along with his family were also in attendance.
This year's lights were put up by Davey Tree Experts; poinsettias were courtesy of Home Depot and refreshments provided by Historic Inns of Annapolis and Doubletree Annapolis.
A special art exhibit was displayed throughout the house with various paintings and drawings by children from the Naval Academy Preparatory School.
About the tree - The tree has been lit for at least the last 40 years. In the 1960s, someone had to climb the tree and place the strings of lights around it. Now instead of having to string the lights manually, a tree company with a cherry picker now places the 100-feet sections of lights around it. The process takes about eight hours. The deodora cedar tree has about 1,700 colored light bulbs, with a light placed about every 12 inches.
Every year the tree is lit during a ceremony to kick off the holiday season. Due to budgetary restraints, the Alumni Association decided not to light the tree in 1994 before the class stepped in. Jack Sheehan (’52) remembers getting a haircut on Maryland Avenue and the manicurist saying what a shame it was that the Alumni House tree was not going to be lit anymore. I went to the president of the Class of ’52 and he agreed that because it is a landmark and everyone in Annapolis looks forward to it, that the class would fund the lighting, he said.
History of the tree - No one is quite sure when the tree was planted and by whom. Turn-of-the-century photos of Alumni House show the building with a circular driveway and no tree in front of it.
Over the years, the tree not only has been decorated with lights but also with red plastic balls. During the 1980s, a security guard was hired to protect the tree in the evening hours from vandals who pulled off the lights and smashed them in the street. Owls were also placed high in the tree to scare away the birds.
The only real damage that the tree sustained has been a snow storm which broke off one section of the branches and the sap sucker birds which peck at the tree.
The Alumni House
The Alumni House was built by Dr. William Stevenson in 1739. His widow, Francina, rented the house to Governor Samuel Ogle and the house served as the official Governor’s Mansion when he and his wife were there. Ogle served as governor from 1731-1742 and 1747-1752. Over the years, the house changed hands many times. Previous owners included Franklin Buchanan, the first superintendent of the Naval Academy, Governor Thomas Pratt (1845-1848), and Vice Admiral David Dixton Porter, Superintendent of the Naval Academy in 1866. The Alumni Association purchased Ogle Hall in 1944 and the house became its national headquarters shortly thereafter.
