Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, now a National Historic Landmark, the Lighthouse is being preserved through a partnership between the City of Annapolis, The United States Lighthouse Society and its Chesapeake Chapter, the Annapolis Maritime Museum, and Anne Arundel County.

While visiting family in Annapolis, we walked down to Thomas Point to take in the scenery and to fly the quad around the Chesapeake Bay. When we reached the end of the park, we found the Boy Scouts there having a great time on a cookout. As soon as I got the quad out to fly, I had a great audience with a lot of enthusiasm as they waved at the quad and wanted to see themselves on the video being streamed to the smartphone. It was a terrific time; plus, while post-processing the video I noticed an osprey in one of the clips. That's cool.

Sandy Point Shoal Lighthouse
Aerial video of Sandy Point Shoal Light at Sandy Point State Park in Maryland. The light house is a 3 story lighthouse on a caisson foundation that was erected in 1883. It is located about 0.6 miles off Sandy Point, north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The light house is currently being restored.

The Thomas Point Shoal Light, also known as Thomas Point Shoal Light Station, is a historic lighthouse in the Chesapeake Bay on the east coast of the United States, and the most recognized lighthouse in Maryland. It is the only screw-pile lighthouse in the bay which stands at its original site. The current structure is a 1½ story hexagonal wooden cottage, equipped with a foghorn as well as the light.

Visit the following Bay area lights during this two-day driving tour: Turkey Point, Concord Point, the Lightship Chesapeake, Seven Foot Knoll, Hooper Strait, Drum Point, Cove Point, Point Lookout, Piney Point and Fort Washington. There is also an option to view offshore Sandy Point Shoal Light from land and boat to Blackistone replica (2009 Bonus Lights). You do not have to visit all of the Challenge lights to participate in this educational and fun-filled event, and the lighthouses can be visited in any order.
