Top 5 Fall Drives in Colorado
Fall is the best time of year to explore the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Between crisp mountain air, vibrant autumn colors, and amazing alpine scenery, there really is nothing better than a Colorado fall road trip. As a Colorado native, I often get asked what I think the best places to visit during fall in Colorado is... so I created this video! It highlights the top drives I consider to be the best for Colorado in the Fall.
Information on the drives:
Peak to Peak Scenic Byway:
Make sure to visit Rocky Mountain National Park when in Estes Park, and the city of Boulder makes for a great lunch/dinner location on your way back to the Denver metro area!
Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway:
The city of Leadville on this route is one of the highest elevation towns in the United States, and has plenty of quirky restaurants and cafes to enjoy. I'd recommend extending this trip to come back through Glenwood Springs on I-70... stop at Iron Mountain Hot Springs to unwind after a long day of driving!
San Juan Skyway:
The mountains between Ridgeway and Telluride are very unique, and you get a lot more color than just aspen trees here. Also, while Telluride can be quite expensive, staying in nearby Ouray is much cheaper and also beautiful!
Million Dollar Highway:
One of the best hikes in Colorado is located near Silverton: the Ice Lakes Basin. I'll eventually have another video on that, but I highly recommend it. Also, consider booking a room at one of Silverton's hotels that were once old West saloons!
West Elk Loop:
I did focus on it in this video, but the town of Crested Butte is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado and makes for a great home base for fall foliage. I highly recommend spending a night there if you can!

Top of the Rockies drive to Red Cliff, Colorado
In December of 2015 I took a trip to the Top of the Rockies with my friend at Adventure Awaits. For this trip we didn't want to ski, we really wanted to explore the surrounding area to see what kind of adventures we could find. This video shows our drive on HWY 24 up to Red Cliff. This town is small and adorable. We later found out that it's a haven for cross country skiers and snowmobiles due to it's proximity to Shrine Pass

Leadville Home Tour pt.1
At 10,152 feet, it's the United State's highest incorporated city. In addition to the rich mining history, the unique, creative, artistic paint schemes on the Victorian houses and other distinctive house designs create an eclectic array in this small town.
Leadville was home to H.A.W. Tabor, who became almost as famous for leaving his wife and marrying a younger woman as for discovering one of the richest silver strikes in the state. His second wife, Baby Doe Tabor, became the stuff of legends — there's even an opera about her.
Leadville was a very influential boomtown — it was almost named as Colorado's capital city. Well-preserved, Leadville has 70-square city blocks of Victorian buildings, all part of a designated National Historic Landmark District, along with 20-square miles of a preserved mining district. More than 50 buildings date back to the 1870s, including the Tabor Opera House.
Leadville is located in the geographic center of Colorado, on U.S. Hwy. 24, part of the Top of the Rockies Scenic and Historic Byway. The town's paved Mineral Belt Trail offers year-round recreation for bikers, hikers, snowshoers and cross-country skiers.
In winter, head out to Ski Cooper, a great and affordable family ski area; in summer, catch a ride on the Leadville, Colorado & Southern Railroad excursion. And don't miss the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, a truly fascinating look at the powerful industry and all the metals that helped build the state.
Just 20 miles from the town of Leadville at the base of Independence Pass is the historic Twin Lakes area, where you'll find world-class fishing and some of Colorado's most spectacular lake and peak scenery. Twin Lakes is close to the trailhead of Mount Elbert and the renowned Interlaken Hotel historical site. It's a true small-town American West experience.

US Highway 160 - Hesperus - Durango - Colorado | Drive America's Highways ????
???? Drive America's Highways for 11 miles east along the San Juan Skyway (US-160) from State Highway 140 Hesperus to U.S. Highway 550 (The Million Dollar Highway) in Durango, Colorado ⛰️
The San Juan Skyway is an All-American Road and a component in the Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway System. It forms a 233.0-mile (375.0 km) loop in the southwest part of the U.S. state of Colorado traversing the heart of the San Juan Mountains. It roughly parallels the routes of the narrow gauge railways: Rio Grande Southern (US 160, SH 145 and SH 62); and the unconnected Ouray and Silverton Branches of the Denver & Rio Grande along US 550 with the Silverton Railroad bridging a part of the gap. Its origin can be traced to the Around the Circle Route promoted by the D&RG. --Wikipedia

Winter Sports in North America's Highest City - Leadville, Colorado
Find winter sports from late fall to early spring at North America's highest city. Fat tire biking, snowmobiling, Nordic and downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and more at Leadville and Twin Lakes, Colorado!
Scary! 14260 feet Mt Evans Colorado Drive 9 of 17 DOWN Compare with Pikes Peak
Highest auto road in the USA - Mount Evans Colorado. Prettier than Pikes Peak and NO DUST to spoil the tundra. However, most people will find that it is scarier to drive.
Neighboring towns: Georgetown, Silver Plume, Idaho Springs, Golden, Brookvale, Highland Park, Evergreen, Conifer
One of the three fourteeners visible from Denver, Mount Evans dominates the mountainous horizon west of the city. Its great sculpted eastern face greets the dawn each day, capturing the morning light. Much of the wilderness lies above timberline, and place names such as Sawtooth, Frozen Lake, and Abyss Lake offer a hint of the rugged glacial terrain that characterizes the area.
Crawling up into the wilderness, but outside the circuitous boundary, a paved road runs to the top of Mount Evans, the highest paved road in America. Abyss Lake, surrounded by fabulous scenery, rests in a rock-rimmed gorge at 12,550 feet in the heart of the wilderness. You can reach it by hiking seven strenuous miles (one way) up a glacier-carved valley.
The area's 14,000 foot peaks and proximity to Denver combine with the summit road to draw large numbers of visitors. Nevertheless, the Mount Evans Wilderness contains notable biological features, harboring not only alpine tundra, but arctic tundra as well. This is one of the few places south of the Arctic Circle, where such tundra is found. It differs from alpine tundra by virtue of its moisture, as it contains countless small pools of water. In contrast, most tundra in Colorado is dry and brittle once uncovered by snow. The Mount Goliath Natural area contains another of the region's unusual features - a prime stand of bristlecone pine. These gnarled elders of the forest often live 1,500 to 2,000 years, growing at infinitesimal rates. The trees' twisted and contorted trunks offer stark evidence of their bitter fight for survival against the elements.
Two species of animals less frequently observed elsewhere have become popular attractions here. A herd of Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep live around Mount Evans, and mountain goats are frequently seen from the summit road. The vast expanses of tundra offer visitors numerous opportunities to spy more common critters, including ptarmigan and yellow-bellied marmots.
