Groningen
Groningen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣroːnɪŋə(n)] ; Gronings: Grunnen) is the main municipality as well as the capital city of the eponymous province in the Netherlands. With a population of 201,865 as of 2016, it is the largest city in the north of the Netherlands. An old city, Groningen was the regional power of the northern Netherlands, a semi-independent city-state and member of the German Hanseatic League. Groningen is a university city: it houses the University of Groningen (about 30,000 students) and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences (about 25,000 students).
History
The city was founded on the northernmost point of the Hondsrug area. The oldest document referring to Groningen's existence dates from 1040. However, the city already existed long before then: the oldest archaeological traces found are believed to stem from the years 3950–3720 BC, although the first major settlement in Groningen has been traced back to the 3rd century AD.
In the 13th century, when Groningen was an important trade centre, its inhabitants built a city wall to underline its authority. The city had a strong influence on the surrounding lands and made its dialect a common tongue. The most influential period of the city was the end of the 15th century, when the nearby province of Friesland was administered from Groningen. During these years, the Martinitoren was built, which loomed over the city (then) at 127 metres (417 feet) tall. The city's independence came to an end when in 1536, it chose to accept Emperor Charles V, the Habsburg ruler of the other Netherlands, as its overlord. Later, it joined the Republic of the Seven United Provinces.
In 1614, the University of Groningen was founded, initially only for religious education. In the same period the city expanded rapidly and a new city wall was built. That same city wall was tested during the Third Anglo-Dutch War in 1672, when the city was attacked fiercely by the bishop of Münster, Bernhard von Galen. The city walls resisted, an event that is still celebrated with music and fireworks on August the 28th (as Gronings Ontzet or Bommen Berend).
The city did not escape the devastation of World War II. In particular, the main square, the Grote Markt, was largely destroyed in April 1945 in the Battle of Groningen. However, the Martinitoren, its church, the Goudkantoor, and the city hall were not damaged. The battle lasted several days.

so wer in holland einkaufen will sollte möglich viel klein geld mitnehmen
Fischmarkt (Vismarkt)
Vom Grote Markt vorbei an Bakker Bart und dem News Cafe in Richtung A-Kerk. Umgeben von besuchenswerten Geschäften. Am Ende steht die Korenbeurs.
@
eng:
so Hollad unfortunately a lot of english or dutch spoken
as a German one has lost there, unfortunately a few years ago there spoke a lot of German and now no longer a pity and English have unfortunately many problems, well I try with hands and feet and wnn not go then google translation.
Pinning, paying with a debit card (pinpas), is very common here in the Netherlands and is often seen by many shopkeepers. This is exactly what the sign Pinnen ja graag means, which you will see in many shops, supermarkets and restaurants.
if you want to shop in holland you should take a lot of small money
#ab 50 euro notes and 100 euro notes do not like that.
So who goes there should first refuel in Germany in Holland, it is sau expensive to refuel or you have an apps where you can refuel cheap.
and in holland always looking for parking and always compare prices best all day costs about 10 euro to 30 euro depends on where you want to park about further away cheaper 10 euro all day parking Boterdiep
Great Market (Grote Markt)
The large free space directly on the not overlooked Martini tower with the beautiful Stadshuis (City Hall). On one side are numerous pubs, on the other the department store Vroom & Dreesmann (V & D).
Fish market (Vismarkt)
From the Grote Markt past Bakker Bart and the News Cafe in the direction of A-Kerk. Surrounded by shops worth visiting. At the end is the Korenbeurs.

Live webcam: Vismarkt Groningen, the Netherlands
The Vismarkt (fish market) is one of three open spaces in the center of Groningen, the Netherlands. It is an oblong, rectangular square. On the east side, the market is bordered by buildings that is separating the fish market from the Grote markt (great market). On the west side of the square you'll find the Korenbeurs (currently a supermarket) and the Aa-kerk (church). The camera is pointed west.
Each year, the fish market is the setting for various markets (fish, fruit, vegetable, antique, books), a funfair, the finish of the 4 Miles of Groningen run, outdoor cinema, music concerts and much more. Thanks to our webcam feed, you can now participate in all these events!
