A Must Do for Home Repairs: Check for Wildlife!
This is a sad, yet important reminder about the need to check for wildlife before doing any repairs on a home or business. It also shows the powerful nature of a raccoon mother's maternal bond with her young.
A homeowner contacted Humane Wildlife Services ten days after repairing a hole in his roof. Every night since the repairs, a raccoon tried feverishly to tear into the home. After hearing cries in his ceiling, the homeowner realized the raccoon mom was trying to reach her babies and gave us a call.
In Washington, DC, there are no licensed rehabilitation facilities that can accept raccoons. Once, we cut the babies out of the ceiling, their only chance of survival was to reunite them with their mom. Just like every night before, she returned for her young. Unfortunately, the long period of separation was just too much for them and they died. Our cameras captured the heartwrenching reunion.
What you can do:
Always check for wildlife before doing any home or business repairs, tree removal and yard work.
If you have a wildlife intrusion during the Spring and Summer months assume that there are babies or dependent young inside.

American Dreams - Ken Schmidt- Cattle Ranch
Hi, my name is Ken Schmidt. My American dream is to one day own a cattle ranch. I am studying Agriculture Business at Southern Utah University. I have had horses all my life, and love animals. My favorite is the cow and other farm animals. On the ranch I would like to help small ranches sell to big markets, by buying small farm livestock and selling it to bigger companies and obtaining big contracts with those big corporations.

When Ringling Bros. Retires Its Elephants, This is Where They Live | National Geographic
Amid scrutiny for the handling of their performing elephants, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus announced in March of this year that they will be removing elephants from their shows by 2018. The retired elephants will be brought to the Ringling Bros. Center for Elephant Conservation in Polk City, Florida. To help ensure the conservation of the Asian elephant, the animals will continue to be bred and studied at the center, with assisted reproduction and research into the diseases that plague them. Here, Ringling Bros. staff were given the opportunity to talk about the work being done to save the Asian elephant.

FINDING THE BIGGEST RATTLESNAKE IN THE WORLD! (Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Crotalus adamanteus)
FINDING THE BIGGEST RATTLESNAKE IN THE WORLD! (Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Crotalus adamanteus)
You all know Florida was a lot of snakes, and big ones too! While I was down there filming some episodes, I took a few days and traveled all over the peninsular from one coast to another to try and a find the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, the biggest rattlesnake species in the world! This once common, now increasingly rare rattlesnake had me putting in the time, and effort, and in the end, how we found it was just plain incredible! This isn't the biggest specimen ever found, but a member of the biggest rattlesnake species in the world! Come and join my Florida herping adventure, and learn about some of the other reptiles found in Florida as well!
ABOUT THE EASTERN DIAMONDBACK RATTLESNAKE
The Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake Crotalus adamanteus is the largest rattlesnake species and is the heaviest known type of venomous snake, with one specimen shot in 1946 measuring 7.8 ft (2.4 m) in length and weighing 15.4 kg (34 lb). However, other venomous snakes may rival this species in weight, the much longer but more slender king cobra is probably greater in average body mass if not maximum weight and the shorter but even bulkier gaboon viper could (but is not verified to) exceed the rattlesnake in both mean adult body mass and possibly even maximum body mass. Common names include eastern diamondback rattlesnake, eastern diamond-backed rattlesnake, eastern diamondback, diamond rattlesnake, diamond-back rattlesnake, common rattlesnake, diamond-back, diamond(-patch) rattler, eastern diamond-back (rattlesnake), eastern diamond rattlesnake, Florida diamond-back (rattlesnake), Florida rattlesnake, lozenge-spotted rattlesnake, rattler, rattlesnake, southeastern diamond-backed rattlesnake, southeastern diamond-backed rattler, southern woodland rattler, water rattle, water rattlesnake, and diamondback rattlesnake. C. adamanteus is found in the southeastern United States from southeastern North Carolina, south along the coastal plain through peninsular Florida to the Florida Keys, and west along the Gulf Coast through southern Alabama and Mississippi to southeastern Louisiana.

Fish Structure, Beach Restoration & Turkey Return
Hands-On Habitat
As reservoirs age, natural places for fish to find food and shelter can be lost. So crews in Northeast Texas are sinking some strange-looking structures and seeding native plants to improve the situation for both fish and fishermen.
Restoring McFaddin Beach
A storm ravaged beach along the upper Texas Coast is on the mend. McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge used to have miles and miles of sand dunes that protected the largest remaining freshwater marsh on the Texas Coast. Hurricanes and erosion have wiped out many of these dunes, and now work is underway to restore them.
Lone Star Land Steward: Harris Ranch
When John Sewell took over management of the Harris Ranch in Uvalde and McKinney counties 20 years ago, it was difficult to find a Rio Grande Wild Turkey on the property. The 17,000 acres had been severely overgrazed to the point that grass was minimal and forbs for deer were all but gone. Today, turkey and deer hunting are the primary source of income for the ranch along with the honey bees that help to pollinate plants and create more ground cover.

A new rare and expensive house cat is bred from a mix of wild and domestic animals.
HEADLINE: Fat cats can afford new exotic kitty
---------------------------------------
CAPTION: The latest in designer pets: an exotic feline breed made up of a cross between a domestic cat, an African serval and a leopard. It costs up to 28-thousand dollars. (Nov. 8)
----------------------------------------
[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE]
This may be no fat cat - but it is an expensive one. This Ashera cat sells for as much as 28-thousand dollars in the United States.
SOT: Ryan Oylear, Ashera handler: They're definitely above domestic cats in that they are much larger, they are much higher energy, they like to be up high. You could say that for most cats but these guys prefer it.
SOT: Alexis Rodriguez, Lifestyle Pets spokesperson:Due to the mix of two exotic breeds it may need the assistance of a behavioral specialist, just because it may become a little too hyper.
They're also larger - standing four feet high on their hind legs. They live a bit longer than the average house cat too; up to 25 years. And if you're willing to pony up the cash, there is even a hypoallergenic version for folks allergic to felines.
Despite its rambunctious reputation, this woman hopes the Ashera fits in with her Beverly Hills family:
SOT: Jo Cachia, Ashera cat owner. We're hoping that he is socialized enough with our playfulness and our kids playing with him that he won't get too wild. And that he'll be controllable and beautiful.
Lifestyle Pets of California expects to sell 50 of these big, exotic kitties a year.
