CROATIA Road Trip from Split to Zadar - Pit stop: Krka National Park, Primosten beach & Trogir
CROATIA Road Trip from Split to Zadar CROATIA- Pit stop: Krka National Park, Primosten beach & Trogir
We decided to hire a car and take a road trip from Split to Zadar and check out the coast line of Croatia. Driving along the coast line was amazing and highly recommended. The back drop from Split to Zadar was absolutely gorgeous and driving through it was so beautiful! What made it even more breathtaking was the sun setting behind the mountains.
While driving to Zadar, we stopped by Trogir which was a little town recommended by our uber lady. She was quite surprised we never heard of it and really encouraged to go. SO glad we did because it was such a beautiful town surrounded by these gorgeous turquoise water.
After that,we went to Primosten beach we found as we wanted to stop along and have a swim. This was also another beautiful pit stop.
Our last pit stop was KRKA national park. One of the main reasons why we went to Zadar was to see this amazing water fall. We got there a bit after 4pm and we were able to swim at the base of the waterfall. I think this was a great time to go as the sun was still out but everyone was going home. We JUST made it onto the last bus at 8PM.

Our visit Zadar travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Croatian), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting churches, parks, the old town, quirky neighborhoods, museums, observation points and roman ruins. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Zadar tourism brochure, Zadar itinerary or Zadar, Croatia city tour also known as Zadar, Hrvatska.
10 Things to do in Zadar, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Let's visit Zadar, Croatia together as we cover 10 of the best things to do in Zadar in this travel guide.
Our first stop was Queen Jelena Madijevka Park which has the distinction of being the oldest public park in Croatia. The park looks over the Land Gate which is the main entrance to the Old Town.
During the 16th century, the Venetians helped Zadar withstand the Turkish sieges by building a large water cistern with five wellheads, giving this square its name. These five wells were used to supply the city with water until the year 1838.
Among the ruins of the forum, you might notice there’s one particular Roman column that still stands intact. This one is called the shame post which during the Middle Ages was used to chain and humiliate people who had committed crimes.
The Church of St. Donatus sits in the middle of the Roman Forum and it dates back to the beginning of the 9th century. The church was built in the Byzantine-style in a circular shape - typical of the early medieval construction in Dalmatia. This church has seen many uses from warehouse to museum, but these days it hosts concerts.
Located right next to St. Donatus, the bell tower is actually part of St Anastasija's Cathedral. Climbing this Romanesque bell tower is not for the faint of heart, especially once you reach the spiralling metal staircase on the last floor, but if you make it, you are rewarded with views of the town and the marina.
The meal came to 32 Euros for two mains, two glasses or red wine, and two desserts. The truffle gnocchi was our favourite truffle dish in Croatia.
When it comes to sunset, there are quite a few spots to choose from. We really enjoyed the pier right across from the Roman Forum, however, the Sea Organ is another popular spot. If you do go to the Sea Organ for sunset, you can also check out the Greeting to the Sun, which is another unusual art installation.
This solar-powered work of art lights up in an array of colours once the sun goes down.
Lastly, we leave you with a few scenes of Zadar at night.
We hope you enjoyed this video and we’ll see you in the next one as we continue our travels in Croatia.

ZADAR, CROATIA: Old Town, Beach & Delicious Food | Croatia Vlog
Zadar, Croatia vlog: On day 2 of our Croatia travel vlog series we show you our first full day exploring the Old Town of Zadar, Croatia, covering attractions you can visit such as the sea organ (morske orgulje), greeting to the sun, the beautiful promenade (riva), Kosovare beach (as short walk from old town) and Zadar’s gorgeous town squares. Zadar sunsets are not to be missed, and the one we witnessed on our first day ensured we saw the Zadar sunset every night of our trip! In this vlog we also show you delicious Croatian food for both lunch and dinner - were very impressed by the quality of food in Zadar.
After having spent a few days in the Zadar region of Croatia we highly recommend you consider Zadar for your trip, whether that be a city break, a base to explore the Istrian or North Dalmatian regions of Croatia, or as part of a larger Croatia itinerary. The old town of Zadar is incredibly picturesque, with limestone floors and pastel buildings. Currently this city appears to have hit the sweet spot of tourism: busy enough that there is plenty to do, but not as crowded as the currently more popular hotspots of Dubrovnik and Split. It is also worth noting that Zadar is quickly and easily accessible from Zadar international airport.
Thank you for watching our Zadar, Croatia vlog. We have a few more videos in this Croatia travel vlog series which will cover more of Zadar old town, as well as going on day trips such as Krka National Park (which will feature next in our Croatia travel series).
Croatia Episode 2 Transcript:
Morning! We've just had coffee on our really lovely balcony, and now we're going to go and explore old town [...]
In this episode of our Croatia travel series we spend the first full day exploring the charming, low key old town of Zadar, cooling off in the crystal clear waters of the city beach, and of course trying delicious Croatian food. After arriving in Zadar late the night before we'd already had a glimpse of just how beautiful city was, and we were so excited to spend the day exploring.
Look at the colour of the water! Wow, you can see right to the bottom, it's so clear. I'm gonna swim in you later!
So we're back at the Sea Organ, I'm not sure if you can hear it behind me, warbling away. The sound is caused by the water pushing air through some tubes that are running underneath us
and it's making that...I don't even know how you describe that sound but that's the sea organ! We're gonna have breakfast picnic at the sea organ; we've got these little chocolate pastries.
This here is Greeting to the Sun, which is where we were last night, and can you see now it's just solar panels in a big circle on the floor. You've got Greeting to the Sun here, and the Sea Organ there.
We're gonna go for a walk along the promenade now. The weather is absolutely beautiful and even though it's all the way back there I can still hear the sea organ.
You can see along the coast here there's lots of steps going into the water because you can just go swimming pretty much anywhere off here. They have got a beach somewhere, but you could just go here if you wanted to.
We've reached the end of the promenade and we've come to this small marina full of lots of little boats and lots of little fish!
Time for lunch. When researching recommended places to eat Restaurant Bruschetta cropped up time and time again, so we were eagerly looking forward to trying it for our first lunch in Zadar.
We've got bruschetta, octopus carpaccio, fresh tuna, octopus salad, seafood spread and seabass. [...]
The City Beach is a short walk from Old Town and has amenities such as showers, changing rooms, food and drink. The beach has a blue flag award meaning that safety, cleanliness and water quality are a very high standard. If you have your heart set on a white sand beach then this Pebble Beach might not be what you're looking for. However, what it lacks in sun it makes up for with it's stunning crystal-clear water.
[...]
Since we last picked up the camera we went back to the room, got showered, got changed and now we're going to get back out to explore some more of old town, because there's still quite a lot left that we haven't seen. [...]
This is Five Wells Square. The Venetians help defend the city by building these well heads when they were under siege from the Turks. You can go straight from Five Wells Square here down the steps to another square [...]
From five well square you can access the beautiful Queen Elena Park which was the first public park in Croatia. You've got a nice view of Lands Gate and the marina.
Now we're gonna go and find ourselves a spot for sunset!
Dinner time! We just got seated and we've got such a nice view from our restaurant table! [...]
We weren't able to see all the sights of old town on our first day, however as our trip was based in Zadar we'll be covering more of the city later throughout our trip series, as well as visiting other destinations as day trips from Zadar, Croatia.

Beautiful Day in Zadar (Croatia, Dalmatia)
Zadar is a beautiful old port city in Croatia (Dalmatia). But there are also many beautiful beaches. We visited Zadar for the third time now. We visit
the beautiful, historic old town and the waterfront. At the harbor we stayed again for a long time. The Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun (created by architect Nikola Bašić), are beautiful works of art. The day ended with a great sunset over the Croatian Adriatic.

Plitvice Lakes National Park (Plitvicka jezera) & Zadar Croatia | OMG OUR FERRY DIDN'T ARRIVE?!! ????
Plitvice Lakes National Park aka Plitvicka jezera & Zadar Croatia
We hired a car and did a road trip from Split to Zadar. We personally think it was one of the best ways to transition from one city to the next. We stopped along the coast line and went through to different pit stops and ended up in KRKA national park which and swam in their biggest waterfall.
The next day we went to Plitvice lakes and saw the gorgeous green/blue lakes. The colours were amazing! I would highly recommend going to Plitvice National Park especially if you’re into water falls. I would definitely suggest to go early though (around 7am) to avoid the crowds. Matt and I had every intention to leave at 5:30 am but we just couldn’t get up! hahaha and it was really busy by the time we got there. We had to follow the pace of the people in front of us in the trail.
We also went to a couple of beaches afterwards to enjoy the sun. We ended up back at old town to watch the gorgeous sunsets! I’d probably say it was one of my favourite sunsets I’ve ever watched! The coast line was uninterrupted and just had a beautiful view. There’s something about sunsets I really love!
